November 2, 201312 yr hello allNew joiner to the forum thanks to mum in law. She died recently and after going through ALL of her paperwork we have discovered that part of the family comes from the Choppington and Ashington areas. My wifes Grandad and Great Grandad were both miners and lived around the High Pit area and we hope to find out a bit more about them and their life.Known names are:- William John and Elizabeth Jane Craigs. and their daughter Eleanor.Rod aka scoobox
November 17, 201312 yr Welcome Scoobox!I worked at High pit from 1959-1965,just before it closed i was transferred to Bedlington A pit.I knew every man at the High pit,cos I was on heavy transport,then girder-leading,which took me into every district in the pit,therefore you got to know everybody through time.I finished there as a coal-filler.I canna mind anybody called Graigs,but it was a long time before I started there,however i will ask my old marra's if they knew of anybody of that name.Good luck in your search.Bill.
