  1. Whilst I am against the parking charges don't forget we have two monstrous under utilised free car parks behind the front street, are these also to be part of the new charging scheme?
  2. I love it how people that aren't prepared to put in a little time and effort to gain some valuable skills are suddenly above manual non skilled jobs such as cleaners. The free market will always provide work for those that are prepared to do it unfortunately the minimum wage legislation means that people that are often willing to work for less are unable to do so. Also wage inflation creeps in as higher paid people try to maintain their pay differential. This cost-push inflation is why manufacturing in this country is no longer competitive.
  3. Just tried the plant turner and it's turning far too fast any ideas how to slow it down 3G?
  4. Well for that I used a 30mm lens at f1.4 I'm no pro. It's only a 4 second exposure at iso 400, I took some longer exposure shots but was impatient and missed focus. I was going to take some more tonight but it's really overcast at the moment. I've never used a telescope with a camera before but obviously larger sensor sizes and good performance at higher iso levels with a nice fast lens will give good results. A focus lock at infinity would also help. I'm hoping to try some time lapse if the clouds clear at all this week. I've seen some good examples with panning and tilting telescope heads like yours but I think I'm going to try with a mini-tripod and a plant turner to see how that turns out.
  5. Not strictly taken today, a few days old now. Makes a good desktop wallpaper Some colour correction and artistic license employed.
  6. Unless you forward a link to this topic to everybody in your address list you will get a virus - B. Gates, Microsoft This is no scam people, I didn't forward this to everybody in my address book and this morning I got swine flu.
  7. Yep I can think of a number of uses for it.
  8. Photos of said fences... http://www.bedlington.co.uk/community/index.php?showtopic=2022 Can't remember exactly when but yes, about ten years ago I think. Anybody know what has happened to the old paving?
  9. Lots of people with clipboards present. Seem to be making quick progress though.
  10. Happy birthday Joe, hop you had a great day.
  11. It's a function of the forum software that we are not using. Ordinarily it would allow people to upgrade their membership by paying a subscription. Thanks for pointing it out I'll hide it from the list of options.
  12. Are you an over 60 Bedlingtonian? The government's swim4life initiative now grants you free admittance to local authority swiming facilities right up until the end of March 2011. Northumberland Councillor Isabel Hunter, the executive member for culture, says: "We would have very much liked to offer free swimming for under 16s too, but unfortunately it has not been possible because the grant from Government would not cover the costs." It is universally accepted that swimming is the best form of exercise. Because, whilst it uses every muscle in your body, the frame is fully supported by the water, and cushioned from the rapid stresses associated with pursuits like jogging. Several sources recommend a minimum of three hours swimming a week to maintain fitness. Over 60's in the town will remember "“ to a person "“ the golden days when Bedlington had its own swiming baths at Humford. A time when they didn't need to travel to Ashington, Blyth, Cramlington or Morpeth to swim. We all live in hope that the brand new local authority will give the town a fair slice of its leisure budget. Maybe some "positive discrimination" is now in order to redress the injustices and resentment felt in the town for decades of a shotgun-marriage with Ashington? Plans and promises we've had aplenty, but Ms Hunter: show us the real facilities, you know we're worth it!
  13. OK I'll have a go at a little micro machines style racing game.
  14. Best two games of football I've watched in a long time 6-5 to Chelsea on aggregate 10 minutes to go.
  15. Hundreds of Northumberland Bikers took to the streets of Bedlington today on their annual Easter Egg Run. Several hundred bikers took part in the event collecting Easter eggs to deliver to the local care homes and children's hospitals. What started as an event with around 30 bikes and a couple of hundred eggs has now grown to such an extent that thousands of Easter eggs are delivered with the help of people from all over the country. The run itself is not the only activity over the weekend, local bands, pubs and independent fundraisers all join in to help support the toma fund with late night partying at the Bebside Inn. Unfortunately the collected eggs will be delivered to the residents and staff of our regions homes and hospitals for the final time tomorrow. Increasing health & safety legislation, lack of support from local councils and inflating insurance costs have led to event founders Gordon Fitch, Paul Green and Wendy Sears being unable to continue organisational responsibilities.
  16. It's hard to explain but there is in fact more colour in the design but a lot of it is still hidden, as more content is added it will appear.
  17. Yeah wasn't supposed to happen that the pitfalls of editing a live site.
  18. OK reverted to a white background, thoughts?
  19. And while we're on the subject of content anybody is welcome to submit articles for publication.
  20. Yeah it's not quite finished because the content writers were being impatient Keep in mind as well that this is purely an image revamp on the forums front, functionally it should be identical... for now.
  21. Another local family business that's been there as long as anyone can remember looks about to shut its doors for the final time. J R Johnson's Footwear in the Market Place "“ synonymous for generations with Clarks Shoes "“ is reported by Bedlington.co.uk stalwart HP to be having a Closing Down Sale. At one time a thriving business with branches at all points North - even in alien Ashington "“ it will doubtless leave yet another boarded-up shop front on the Front Street. Proprietor Clive Johnson inherited the chain from his father at a time when Bedlington still had a thriving small-business community, and it's a matter of local amazement that he has bravely battled the odds for so very long.
