  1. Current exchange rate dollar to pound, CL, nicely favourable for me! Just light of 76p to be precise!!
  2. Excellent suggestion.
  3. Btw, dollar at 76p this morning.
  4. It was meant as a humorous aside; besides, you've patronised me plenty other times. I read plenty articles; not all of them agree with this one. Anyway, I'm officially bored of politics, and will henceforth revert to commenting on local issues.
  5. Check Facebook there's a dedicated page
  6. Before Christmas? Really? I doubt that very much! Our new Lidl will be open by then, but no sign of Article 50. Your optimism is admirable young man!

    Tall Ships

Always good, Chris, well worth a visit
  8. Great event, well attended, helped by excellent weather, looking forward now to the Street Fair.
  9. Maggie, nobody takes MY table; NOBODY!
  10. What damage would that be specifically? Great question; why don't you ask your mates in the business world? They might be able to enlighten you. Or, of course, you could simply continue to believe that the pound (76p this morning!) is recovering, and everything is hunky dory in the world of finance, as the Guardian tells you. " we will surely see some resurgence in what's left of our fishing industry, etc.etc." Why, and how? You do realise we will still be governed by EU quotas, surely? You honestly don't think that we will suddenly have utter freedom? ReallY/ Brian asks: "Question for 3G when will Brexit begin ?" Even better question, this! There could be several answers, Brian; 1) when someone has the guts to handle it (i.e. never) 2) when Theresa May decides (never) or 3) never, It won't, because it's a daft thing to do.
  11. 73p yesterday, that should read;
  12. I hadn't noticed that! I'm not bothered about the headliners, but the Sleeze Sisters - Glam Rock tribute act - are well worth seeing, Great fun.
  13. Inspired by people pointing out, quite rightly, that the recent picnic event had no mention here, this is happening today:
  14. The problem with the legendary Table 25, once my second home, is that it is now the domain of the 9am Club. Lovely blokes they are, but I can't see them relinquishing their beloved table in the daytime. Evenings, however, are another matter. As for the window seat - AKA The Office - it is variable in capacity, as tables can be drawn together. It also provides a lovely view of the Front Street and the roundabout, and offers easy access to the upstairs facilities.
  15. So, basically, what he's saying is there's no need for an emergency budget, because he doesn't want to add to the damage already done? (Btw, $ back to almost 76p this morning, having hit 83p yesterday. Great recovery.)
  16. 3G I'm sure you told us there are no financial experts; is the new Chancellor an exception?
  17. Bribed with a pint? Me? Not a chance! I don't do the evil drink! You are, of course, more than welcome to join me in the window seat, where I shall enjoy a fresh lemonade and lime with you.
  18. And 1.34 this morning. My point still stands. Before the vote I was getting 65p' now I'm getting (today) 74p. Pity I couldn't exchange yesterday. I'm hardly doom-mongering, 4G; I'm responding to a claim I don't live in the real world. I do, when it comes to currency exchange!
  19. Yes, that's right.
  20. "the pound is now recovering too. " What? Are you serious? The pound is recovering? In what world do YOU live in?! I'm sure I said before that I get paid in dollars, and as they don't accept dollar payments in the Red Lion, I have to exchange them for good old sterling. This very morning, right now, I can get 76p for my dollar; that's better than it was on the fateful day of Brexit (or worse, if you're not me!) That, my friend, is the real world, one where I know how many quid I get for my dollar today, and how many I got a few weeks back (considerably less, if you're interested). The pound recovering? I laughed so hard my head almost fell off. You know that famous climate chage hockey stock chart? Have a look at the exchange rate map today, and get some reality into your head. I fear you've been indoctrinated with bullshit that fits your view, and haven't bothered to click a few buttons and find out the truth. I'll repeat - 76p to the dollar; when was the last time that happened?
  21. Do you guys use social media at all? Or walk along the Front Street? It's been all over the Facebook pages, for example, of MAN4Bedlington, bedlington Matters, Bygone Bedlington, and indeed Bedlington Picnic for weeks. It's been heralded by large banners at the roundabout, beside the church, in Attlee Park for ages. It's had pages in the News Post Leader, and in other press. For the record, this wasn't a revival of the Miners Picnic, but a community event in that spirit, organised almost single-handedly by one of our former members - Miss/mrsVic - to showcase local businesses and organisations, and to provide a fun, free day out for all, with trade stands, entertainment, a dog show and so on. it was a great success, and is hoped to be continued.
  22. "It still is obvious," No, it's not, and no matter how much explanation you try to put to it, it never was nor will be. You were wrong, plain and simple. " you and your left-wing chummies" Who said I was left wing? "A lot of this is to do with immaturity; but you are an adult, so what's your excuse?" Did I say I would label them a racist? I thought you were talking about the press, not me. Of course, you know - for a fact - that what I said is correct; anyone who brings up the immigration issue (which, well, isn't really that much of an issue in the bigger scheme of things) WILL be labelled a racist. Furthermore, I noticed earlier you going on about how expats are rejoicing this development. For the record, a mate of mine is currently visiting his parents, who live in Spain. They, and their fellow expats, are far from rejoicing. Canny Lass - '' and round of your post" - naughty girl, it's' round off'! I'm surprised 3G hasn't told you!
  23. "I see the bigger picture." But you didn't; you said it was 'obvious', and that you would be proven right. It wasn't obvious, and you were completely wrong. That's not seeing the bigger picture, it's seeing a mirage. "Imagine someone who sticks up for British values that there's no way they can rationally label as a racist" No, I can't imagine that someone at all. Once they bang on about the immigration issue they will automatically be labelled a racist.
  24. Great stuff HPW, as always!
  25. I have to be honest, Webtrekker, I no longer do.I'm sure he has a lot to say, but I'm no longer sure what much of it is.
