A cure for a bad cough that was used in our house was to get two slices of turnip, place the first slice on a plate and cover it with sugar, place the second slice on top of the first slice and leave it in the pantry for twenty four hours then drink the juice. Not sure if it worked but it tasted nice.

Just checked that link John W its fantastic, the opening night schedule brings back memories. Threegee mentioned Robin Hood and it was indeed the first program. Highway Patrol was the program that I was thinking of but one that did bring back memories was Double your Money hosted by Hughie Green, you could buy the board game in the fifties and I remember playing it with some friends. One program that I do remember from the fifties and I am not sure if it was on the commercial channels or BBC, was a program called The Grove family, one of the main characters was Granny Grove,do you or anyone remember this program?

Yes Canny Lass you are correct but I am not sure if his name was Alan or Jimmy. I remember the memorial service at the YM.

Yes Foxy, Craiges was the railway (Railway Tavern) not sure how long he occupied the pub but it was always known as Craiges. It was a Vauxes Pub

Yes Shane Fenton and the Fentones did appear on the Monday night and it was all ticket, cost three shillings and sixpence. You mention Craiges, do you remember the disco in there? The lights used to make your pint look like a pint of sump oil and if you were wearing a white shirt it became blue. The Clayton Ballroom used to be a skating rink on a Saturday afternoon (Roller Skates)

1962/63 Shane Fenton and the Fentones apeared there he latter changed his name to Alvin Stardust, if my memory serves me correctly they were number one in the charts when they appeared at the Clayton Ballroom, can not remember the name of the song. The price to see then was three and sixpence two shilling more than normal. The Clayton Ballroom was a good night out on a Monday and Friday night.There was a fire door on the left hand side of the building as you face it, these doors were used if there was any trouble. The bouncers used to force you throught the fire doors and the weight of your body or head used to open the doors as you were ejected. One of the bouncers was named Paddy he was a boxer in the fight booths at the shows.

It will be available on sky Malcolm as they braodcast all regional broadcasts, I thinks it's in the 900 range, 975 I think is where I normally watch Look North. As you say it is good for Bedlington.

Malcolm, I think theres a lot of things they do not understand, when they come up with a therory it is ussally disproved further down the road of time. Allegedly a Univesity not far from me carried out research on why cornflakes go soggy when milk is added to them. The money that must have coast could have paid for your gates. Is the film crew local or national Malcolm? It seems Bedlington will be getting air time on the BBC 2/10/2011 (Its a Rich man's show)

Mercuryg, other than the link has there been any other sighting in and around the golf course or has the trail gone cold. About 25 years ago I was on my way to work, it was about 4.30 am. Not far from where I live there is a canal and I was crossing the bridge when I spotted a larg furry animal it was about 18 inches to two foot long, possibly nine inches high, probably native to this country and it must have been a river creature or an animal that lived near the river, never did find out what it was and never saw it again.

I have noticed that it is a cul-de-sac when I have been up there and because of that I have never ventured up there to see if the Havlock was still there. I would think that any visitors to the area would not even know that there was a pub there and just contiue following the road. Pity really because I remember it used to get quite full in the sixties.

They did not sell lager last time I was in there, it was all beer, if my memory serves me right it was one and thrupence a pint. Come to think of it there was larger it was Carling black label it was more of a ladies tipple I think, not sure if you can still get that.
