  1.

The shop you are referring to has a main shop in Newcastle behind The Globe on Scotswood Rd does it not?

Also this is now closed and is being repurposed into either residential property or alternative fronting for a commercial premises.

This appears to be the planning application:

Conversion of existing shop and storage into 4 No two bed dwellings including demolition of modern rear store and part boundary wall

Don't think that was the same company Brett.  The owners of the lighting studio used to be members of the Chamber of Trade, and I believe still have a shop in the Metro Centre, at least they did a while ago, not been there for a while.

  2. How could I have missed the glaring one...

...Two important streetscapes will be dramatically improved ...

Now assuming one of those IMPORTANT streetscapes is the old Church itself...then if it was so important why wasn't it saved!! But what exactly are the TWO important streetscapes. Please clarify!

The Church itself has been saved surely.

  3. 20 years ago I used to go to a dog training class in the building.  It was falling down even then.  The floor was rotting, and there were parts of it we couldn't use in case we went through the floor.  I don't remember any remedial work being done to it in the ensuing years, so I doubt there would be much left to conserve.

  4. Often when firms go the the wall it means that they've been badly run or have poor, short-sighted management.  Often, they're run by crooks who'll trade even when they know they're stuffed with the results that countless thousands of customers have been stiffed out of deposits and goods.

That is because the good, long sighted management have voted with their feet.

  5. I have never been against the culling of animals.

I have always believed that people in responsible positions must have common sense and any decisions that they make, knowing they will be publicized and attract the media, are made by majority vote by all members of that group. When we see decisions made by governments; banks; councils etc. etc. and we wonder how could sensible educated knowledgeable adults come to such decisions, I assume they know much more than is being released and therefore I am wrong to judge without all the facts.

If zoo animals need culling and they save money by using the meat to feed the other animals they don't have to play a fan-fare when they do it. Just do it without publicity and the majority will understand. We don't have to like it but we know it makes sense rather than waste resources.

I explained to my kids, in the wild animals feed off each other, that's the law of the jungle. Zoos protect animals (yes initially it was for someone to make money) and allow children to see them up close, as the majority of children would never get the opportunity to see them in their natural world.

But this is one of those cases where you thing - 'What the f*** are they doing'. I hope an online campaign is started to bring charges of child cruelty against those responsible.

To a degree I agree with you on the culling of animals, but here there were other options.  Other zoos were prepared to take him.  Did they just let him live for 18 months so there was enough meat to go around?  Yes, animals eat other animals in the wild, but in the wild at least the prey has a chance to escape, this animal had no chance.

  6. Who ever they are they are difficult to get hold of, present company accepted.

A school friend is trying desperately to contact councillors, and apart from our 'Two Amigo's' has not managed to contact anyone.

She will not give up, but between websites and county hall no one seems to have any information they are prepared to share.

    Nothing new there then.
