What's needed is an administration who can set a lead in free trade, and not be constantly caught out by change. Like in the US, sales taxes should go back to the region, and there should be some flexibility for local people to set the rate. This is not at all impractical these days, but vested interest will try to dismiss it on faux impracticability grounds.
I've an idea which makes tax on all on-line purchases available to local communities as well as locally provided goods and services. Not only is this very practical in the Internet age, but it could add in locally controlled services which are of real value to local people, and provide some extra local employment. It would be an opt-in scheme where things would continue as before if a community chose not to go there, but the benefits of adopting it would mark out the sheep from the goats. The effect of the scheme would be regenerative too as the places that adopted it would undoubtedly see much more local enterprise. We should be using the information age to redress regional wealth differences, but what's now happening is that it's tending to enhance them.
Maybe the town that launched the World's first universal postal service could set a lead?
Well if I had the faintest idea what TTIP was I might find this post interesting, as it is I haven't a clue.

Nope, don't have dual citizenship, purely English. I just happen to live in Italy, and so am entitled to an Italian ID card. Italian National Service has nothing to do with it. Ask the Mayor, he will vouch for me.

Your son in law is Greek, that is the key. Italians can also travel to the UK on an Italian ID Card - as can any other Europeans I would presume. I have an Italian ID card but cannot use it for travel outside of Italy.

I agree with most of what you say, but here in Italy I find the fruit and veg do not stay fresh for as long as those bought at other supermarkets. Fine if you are going to use straight away, or are prepared to shop every day, but not if you want to keep them for a few days. On the employment front, at least in our local Lidl, they only seem to employ Italians, and believe me we are getting a lot of immigrants at the moment.
I do do the vast majority of my shopping at Lidl, but then again it is less than 2km away.

I don't think 3G has ever claimed not to "care for other people whatever part of Europe you come from", he just doesn't believe the EU is the answer. That is how I read his posts anyway.

Surely if we get out less than we put in we are net losers? If we had all the money we were putting in then we would have the money, and more, for the projects that the EU is supposedly funding. Is this not simple maths.

Totally agree that yellow lines are there for a reason - problem is there are not enough of them! Just look at the parking in Front Street East in the area of Clippers the barbers where both sides of the road have cars parked resulting in a much reduced carriageway width. I've nearly lost a wing mirror on more than one occasion. Come on traffic managers - get some yellow lines painted.
There are places where they are needed and places where they are not. I remember a business owner on Front Street West complaining to one of our local councilors many years ago that the yellow lines were badly affecting their trade - the response - "I don't care how many businesses close, the yellow lines stay!" Somewhere there has to be a sensible compromise.

Can anyone recommend a builder who will take on a small job. We have a wooden lintel in a stone building which needs replacing fairly quickly, probably with a small RSJ, but will take their advice on this. I can email a photo to anyone interested. I think the opening is about 1m to 1.5m.
A good job at a reasonable price may well lead to further work.

Etna is worth a visit too, but take something warm, it is VERY cold up there after the warmth of the coastal area.
