I cant understand how permission to fell the giant weeping willow was ever allowed, but most of all I can not believe how planning was ever granted to build such a monstrosity in a historic town like Bedlington, Carbuncles and landscapes come to mind.

Its a shame Arch don't do something with the old top club (Jimmy Millnes house) what a terrible state its in.

I very rarely use cash dispensers but I left the house early yesterday 5.30am to go to work and needed some money to give to a collection so I thought I would use the cash-point at the spar in Bedlington station but found it out of action and have been told it no longer in use due to attempts to drill it open,
I thought I would go up to the front street and use one of the machines but soon realised that the machine at old Barclays bank was gone as was the one at Tescos and the same for the one at old HSBC I headed for the TSB machine but it was not working (probably empty).
Its hard to believe we had so many cash-points on the street but are now left with one very overworked ATM.

And no planning applications found on Wansbeck planning website

I seen the sign on the old school and also noticed a new to let sign this morning on the old market place coop store..
Also two new bus stops on the old pit road (cant remember or spell what its German name now is ).
And the old day centre that was to be demolished to build a store has had workmen this week boarding up all the doors and windows so it does not look like any building is going to start in the next few weeks .

This could prove to be the end of a safe labour seat.
An orangutan could stand, and win as long as it was standing for Labour then folk would vote for it, how many times have you heard people say I always vote labour because my parents and my grandparents and my great grandparents all voted labour.
We are good warm hearted folk in the north east but we need to take the blinkers off at times and start to form our own opinions on what is best for us and the area.
The days of tipping your cap are long gone.

As we know the root of the problem in the British steel industry is the glut of cheap steel imported from China, whose government subsidises its own loss-making industry. This allows Chinese firms to export steel around the world at rock-bottom prices.America is imposing tariffs of 256 per cent of the value on imports on some steels from China. The EU, by contrast, has imposed much lighter tariffs of between 9. and 13 per cent. Under the EU’s ‘lesser duty’ rules.
Another reason for the crisis in the British steel industry is the Climate Change Act. Steel-making is hugely energy intensive but we no longer have cheap energy available. The reason is that green taxes and levies have been introduced in an attempt to meet the target for cutting UK carbon emissions. Thanks to Labour’s climate change levy, and also the renewable obligation forcing energy suppliers to buy a certain amount of their electricity from renewable sources.British steel has to pay 20-30 per cent more for its electricity than if it were making steel in Germany, and 50 per cent more than if it were in France.
I doubt if many of us would want to go back to the days of nationalised industries propped up by the taxpayer. but its unlikely as EU rules prevent subsidizing UK industry if it can lead to an unfair advantage against other member states.even in situations such as Port Talbot where you have the works temporarily brought to its knees by low global steel prices.
Once again the UK plays by the rules while others give us the two finger salute .
Looks like yet another good reason the leave the EU.

Oh happy days! I remember my mother buying a pair of hair-curling tongs that plugged into the light socket. .
Granny never had tongs but she had her hair curled more than once when plugging things in to that light socket
-
I can remember when we had no sockets and used to pug everything in to the light socket, I can remember my Grandmother ironing with the iron plugged in to the light and I can remember when she bought the houses first hoover (vacuum cleaner) that was also ran from the light socket.
No such the as the EU or health and safety in those days, ya just got electrocuted

Sad times that we are living in at present, and when these topics can stem religious attacks like the one of a Asad Shah in Scotland yesterday because this person was of a particular religion or ethnic group then we need to start worrying about the likes of the gentleman who was arrested for asking a muslim lady about Belgium.
.Police said both Mr Shah and the arrested man were Muslims.
A post on Thursday from an account that appears to be Mr Shah's said: "Good Friday and very happy Easter, especially to my beloved Christian nation x!"

The only geordie phrase that starts to wear a bit thin after a while is someone who says An Ye Knaa like after every two or three words,
But at the moment I am tired of hearing from our politicians ,
We are all in this together
We’re standing up for hard-working taxpayers, and families
We want to do what’s right for the nation
Our long term economic plan
Reducing the deficit
And a constant repeating of Mr speaker, Mr speaker, .Mr speaker.

Its an argument that will go on and on and on, but I do find it sad that anyone who has an opinion that is not liked is called racist or a bigot,
while I may not agree with what many people say I strongly believe we are all entitled to have views and to the right of free speech.
So many of the UK news programs are sterilised and bland I have gave up watching them.

Its does not look to a very big site, I wonder how many houses could be built on it ?
but anything is possible as I see they seen to have squashed in quite a few houses on the site of the old Albion Inn at Bog-houses.

Thank you rosco, I think I used Andy to skim the walls when I striped the house of wallpaper and I agree he did a very good job.

I am looking to have my kitchen worktops replaced and some new tiles, oven hob etc, much to my surprise I see a new shop opposite vicarage terrace that is offering just such services.
Its called Tip Top home improvements, I looked in today the lights were on but the door was locked, I will try and call again tomorrow.
Has anyone used them yet or have any information about them, or any other local firm that provides such services.

A thread on another of the boards forums made me start reminiscing about bygone days
I wonder how many of you remember the adverts we used to have on TV in the 60s and 70s
Oh how watching them now on you tube makes me smile.
This was one of my favourites.
