The police are not divested of their powers they can still do what they did before its just there is now a dedicated team at County which is supposed to do parking enforcement, issue parking fines etc. Or the cynic in me would suggest........corral cars into paid car parks. If these traffic wardens have to be self funding does that mean if they do their jobs well and reduce illegal and inconsiderate parking they are in fact making themselves redundant?

Bedlington Weekly Market
That exact point has been made time after time at Town Council meetings but nowt's changed? Also the fact that we went halvers with Ashington on the new stalls with the colourful covers on and where are they? Seems its too expensive to put them up these days?????????? That was two or three grand well spent then! The restoration and resurgence of small town markets is/was a central plank in the County's economic regeneration policy, I presume that's netty paper now?

Parking and enforcement have been taken off the police and handed over to the County Council who now have those traffic wardens who we might see time to time. There is supposed to be a telephone number to use for 'immediate' results! The rest of it looks like I said……….can we bend over anymore? There seems to be a whole new bureaucracy involved in getting out of actually taking responsibility for just about anything these days. Small wonder when the guys at the top do it all the time! Seems we can justify high salaries and pay by mentioning increasing responsibilities but when it comes time to park the buck the only game in town is pass the parcel!

Talking of helicopters, there was a dammed noisy one over the Top End last night. I presumed keith1 was up here walking through or keith2 was up here star gazing? Police helicopter, money well spent, keep the undesirables out!

Andrew Tebbutt... Keith. What surprised me is that no one seemed to notice that the cuts over the next 3 years are larger than the Adult Services budget plus one or two more! I would have liked to ask in that case will Health and Education still be ring-fenced from the cuts as they have been? Can't see how that will be possible especially with a saving of around £35M to find 2014-15, that's going to be a bloodbath! NCC is going to look much different over the next few years and that has already started.

Only one thing for it, we declare independence from every official body currently governing us! Passport to Pimlico.........Passport to Bedlington more like, man the barricades and impose strict passport controls!

Good Jokes: Not For The Faint-Hearted (Adult content)
Sorry couldn't resist.. One should not take the English language for granted ... Paddy took 2 stuffed dogs to the Antiques Roadshow . "Ooh!" said the presenter, "This is a very rare set , produced by the celebrated Johns Brothers , taxidermists , who operated in London at the turn of last century ...do you have any idea what they would fetch if they were in good condition ?" "Sticks ?" said Paddy.

The 'nail.'
I didn't say there was but given what we do know there does seem some fortuitous serendipity at play. As your link shows the likes of Dr Cobham Brewer trying to make the expression fit into his theory seems discredited but that was 1870 and the claim was that the expression was first heard a century before is interesting. Bedlington Iron Works started early 1700's, primarily for nail production! Well over a century before Brewer made his claim or exactly fitting with the claimed common usage of the term. Half a dozen coincidences starts to look like evidence, certainly enough for local folklore.

Looks like someone is taking huge positions in VXX (VIX) puts starting next month and up to June. Metals look to be as manipulated as ever, especially silver! Gold looks to be pegged artificially anyway now. Is this the last 10 minutes of playtime in the playground before teacher rings the bell? - Crash 2 The Sequel!
