  1. Do not know what you are talking about Foxy! Signed EWD Every windup is Dangerous
  2. Would love to know what they found at Hollymount. Exciting stuff! Maybe it would confirm our place in History.
  3. On the Dept to Asset figures. I think the PFI initiatives and the dept to us the taxpayers could bring us all down. At the moment the private equities are in a win win situation. No risk, the British Taxpayer pays, locally and nationally. Wansbeck hospital,I believe, thought about a buy back and the figures were truly astounding.
  4. We now have career politicians, where as in the past we had people who knew about life and hardship. People prepared to stand up and be counted. Obviously corruption and self interest seem to rise to the fore. Hopefully things will change. The election in two years time may bring a new way of thinking.. I am grateful we all have the right to vote. There was a time when it was only the posh men folk who could vote.
  5. Very Good, You could qualify for the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain. We love their music and humour. Then there is the story of Bob Dylan going to George Harrison's for lunch and the only way to spend the afternoon, allegedly, was listening or watching to George Formby. So it will be music on Cambois beach soon.
  6. It was Beamish. Could not resist taking the picture.
  7. Somewhere John I read that Cambois was THE important port of call in early history. I will at some stage try to find the reference. It makes sense to me because of the nearness of the two rivers. Therefore a defensive place to land, or to live. Bedlington because of the higher ground would be a good place to defend. Fight or flight. Down to Humford and away.
  8. Radio 4 today 11am Val McDermott 'Deeds not Words' Emily Wilding Davison.
  9. In two, not so quality, newspapers this week, ( sorry Symptoms) there are interesting articles. Wednesdays Metro Humans living 15,000 years ago used many of the words we continue to utter today, a study published by a British University claims. The 'I' newspaper yesterday The much derided 'aquatic ape' theory is getting a public airing. Did humans come from the seas rather than the savannah? Basically we can write ourselves into the story. Cuthbert, there is evidence. Bede the name is there and I cannot believe he did not visit the holy places where Saint Cuthbert's body had rested. Escaping the Viking's Bedlington would have provided safety together with places to hid or escape. The view to the sea would have been an early warning system. If, on the time line, Hartford woods were used in the last war as secret hideouts, why not earlier. Creative history. Certainly worth an argument! Sorry discussion!
  10. It is great to hear that Solar Power Rocks! Maybe said to lower the tone of high political debate! However, I am not sure the political debate can ever be won! Power corrupting and all.
  11. No one would have survived a pub crawl around that lot!
  12. Excellent work, pity earlier dates could not be added. No written records! We need a time machine to go back to the future. One thing we all agree on is the importance of Bedlington in our lives. From the depths of our hearts we have learnt to love the place. 'What is this life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare' Maybe we should keep Bedlington for ourselves.
  13. Holidays in Wansbeck, that sounds good. We need Waitrose to listen up and take notice. Upwardly mobile with trendy modes of transport.
  14. I feel the need to change my name!
  15. The track is 'Unity' (Raise your Banners High) by John Tams and Barry Coope! Just on the off chance anyone is interested.
  16. An interesting observation Wilma! Everyone's views are important and where people seek to achieve the moral high ground, they loose the argument, in my opinion. Thatcher is history now and even having a pint of cider with her name on the product can cause a reaction! The facts speak for themselves. We have no longer many major manufacturers in the global market. (Ship building, cars, etc not to mention the coal industry) We have allowed, even our chocolate firms to be bought out. Thatcher beat the unions because she closed the industries they represented. There is a fantastic song called 'Raise your banners high' which represents what we used to have. A fair minded society where people helped others because it was the decent thing to do. Not because they were motivated by money. What did Harry Enfield's character say 'Loads of money'
  17. Make sure you park in the Red Lion car park. It may cause a stir! After all it has much more character than others. I guess that could be said of its owner too.
  18. He was around in the Andy Cole era. Sang songs that were so bad they were good! I believe he got a little depressed because no one took him seriously. I have a tape of his somewhere, if you are unlucky I may try and find it. He did a song about baked beans which was very funny. Then there was Norman the inspector on the Metro. All in the best possible taste as Kenny Everett would say
  19. Exciting end to the season, as long as the right team stay up. Where is Harry Palmer with a song when you need him! Who can remember him and his songs I wonder!
  20. Someone said there was an application for a deep mine at Widdrington. Maybe coal mining is not dead!
  21. Just watched The Spirit of 45 trailer. Now wished I had seen the film, thank you for posting the trailer SNRG.
  22. Have a great day! Age is measured by time but defined by spirit!
  23. Anyone ever said 'I was licked for what to say' or 'slappy lug'! I am listening to The Bonny Gateshead Lass' by Bob Fox and Stu Luckley
  24. It's Grim up North or is it?
