That video needs a topic on it's own. Barter Books is just plain brilliant and is on the map for any visitor to the area. Even heard people on Radio 4 singing its praises. The North East is now so popular. We all know why!

Clannad are very good. My favourite is 'We all think well of a bridge'. They did not do it last night. Brian Kennedy is worth a listen 'The Great War of Words' was out in the early nineties. The Ghostly Voice was my Gran's sister. Everyone on the site is drawn back to Bedlington and the North East. We all have our reasons the place is second to none. On Katherine Tickell's Northumbrian Voices her mother describes her early life and landscape by saying she feels ' This is my land' I know how she feels.

The book reprinted by Rev Osgathorp in 1949,gives slightly more information to later editions. The books are of Bedlington Church by the Rev A Campbell Fraser, MA Sketches by Mrs A E MacLeod I grew up in the knowledge that the monks fled from Lindisfarne and the Vikings first and then again from the Normans. The date Saturday the 12th Dec 1069 is mentioned. I am attempting to reproduce the page but it is only a hand held.

Dinah Iredale who used to live in Bedlington, has written a book on this subject. She gave a talk last month at the Lit and Phil. It is worth checking out. The picture of the female farm workers that has just been posted may or may not be relevant.

Keep Calm and Carry On! This is the poster they found, now someone is trying to copyright the thing. Article in the Journal in January. Do not know what happened. I hope Barter Books won, the shop is great, I have to be dragged out.

The book provides one persons view about our times and our town. Whilst maybe we do not see things in quite that way it is interesting to read. A gritty and rather graphic account of life in a Northern town. We can become complacent and we all have subjective views on the past. Good and bad, we decide for ourselves what we remember. My memories are not like those of Paul Mann but I have not committed time and energy into writing a book. I think in Bedlington we are a long way from a 'Shameless Society' I enjoyed reading the book.

A local lass made a speech at Morpeth. Nedderton I believe, called Caisley. My reason for introducing the topic was to raise the profile of Bedlington and try to find a local connection.

Dig anywhere and you will find history! How about the site behind the old shoe shop, loads of complaints of litter. Investigate dig and discover. Approval needed obviously, no upsetting anyone!

Just when I decided to opt out, some ghostly voice from the past calls me back. Inherited genes, supernatural, who knows. The day started with negativity, then a post that woke up my memory of the past, then finally Clannad and Brian Kennedy. My mother died shortly after seeing Clannad in 1996, and Brian Kennedy has always it seems been a favourite in the family. Tomorrow at the Sage beg borrow or steal to get a ticket! Only joking, worth going out of your way to see, live music beats u tube anyway for me!

My Gran had a parrot they taught to swear. Not sure what they did when the vicar come to tea. I was brought up to accept that humour was essential in life. Not to take offence.

In my life in Bedlington, humour was used as a way of diffusing arguments. I wonder if that is still the case. Gallows humour.

I have offered to resign from the site. Sorry once again for any offence, none intended.

Sorry Keith it was meant to be light and humorous! Yesterday was International Women's Day and there were a lot of people in Morpeth paying tribute to her. She fought for freedom to speak your mind. Some people would enjoy reading the Daily Mail, and applaud their stand on life. I have a different opinion to you, and should have left you with the last word. However in raising the profile of Bedlington, maybe this dialogue will motivate people to have opinions, disagree and still stay friends or fellow residents.
-
Warning Please The Keiths If you go to Morpeth in the next few months, do not under any circumstances express these opinions. Today at Saint Mary's there may have been trouble. Luckily you are in Bedlington.

These days are children may not see the need to vote! Democracy may not be good for all, but it is said to be the best of the alternatives. I cannot imagine a time when we did not have the privilege to vote. This is a topic that I think demands discussion. We now feel the politicians can be corrupt. The local council used to be referred to as Ali Baba and the forty thieves. Vote for Malcolm Robinson MP for Bedlington

Years of force feeding and other indignities may have persuaded her to take action. The miners strike and police brutality may or may not come someway to explain. We all have points at which we become militant. Check out this website, many people feel strongly about lots of things from litter to politics. If we went back to a time when only an elitist few had the vote we might understand her sincerely held views. Either way it is good to discuss.

Good to read, thank you. -
Symptoms you are a rascal. Round the rugged rock the rugged rascal ran! To be said with the Northumbrian 'R' of course. I think you must be related to the mischievous Lord Lampton who caught the worm.
