  1. I am told it was around 1973 when the footbridge was removed. Never seen any photos of it being demolished.
  2. @Steve D - if you haven't already viewed it the http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/sites.shtml has quite a few images of the station http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/b/bedlington/index.shtml - but none from the front. However there are still a couple of images showing the front and Google Street view is also a good way of having a look :-
  3. Don't know of any of my relatives that have been diagnosed with dementia but I see the local care homes say there have expert care for people with dementia : - Barchester Meadow Park Care Home Choppington Road, Bedlington NE22 6LA https://www.carehome.co.uk/carehome.cfm/searchazref/10004525MEAB Hartford Court Care Home Cumbrian Road, Cramlington NE23 1DA https://www.carehome.co.uk/carehome.cfm/searchazref/70331
  4. @Bedlingtonian - I know Freecycle exists but not aware of a local, or even Northumberland, branch/online site. My daughter, when she lived in London (staying there after she finished uni in 2001), used to use the Camden (Hampstead) site a lot.
  5. @Jr6468 I remember those places well - it was January 1969 when I first left Bedlington, for London. Leaving behind The Prince of Wales & The Wallaw (had already closed as a cinema) - The Clayton Ballroom & Skating - The Domino - Humford open air swimming baths (think it was already closed or on the verge of closing by then) - the YMCA & Moscadinni's (for the Station teenagers, Bacci's for the Top End teenagers) etc.
  6. Unfortunately it's trying to convince the younger generations what should be kept. People of my age, 70+, have totally different ideas to the younger generations and it's getting the younger generations involved in what's on the front street and not what's on-line

  8. Ex Bates deputy, George Henderson, Judo 3rd Dan and NUFC fan died yesterday morning aged 82. The NUFC photo is from 2017. I think the judo photo is late 60's early 70's and George is the one being thrown.
  9. Hello Brian - if it wasn't for the www we would all be sitting staring at walls, and hospital walls are boring! Just spent 12 days in one of hours, nowt serious, but the cost of the TV makes ya blood boil. The new A&E, at Cramlington , has free TV for the standard channels - BBC - ITV etc but when you repaired ans ready for recovery they discharge you to other hospitals where the TV is £9.60 per day, for 15 channels, + extra for films and Sky sports 😲. I didn't pay, just talked to the rest of those recovering. No snow in the NE, yet🙂 All the best to you and your family.
  10. @Leah - you may have noticed many posts about bates Colliery from @HIGH PIT WILMA. Normally Highpit Wilma is on ths group weekly but I see he hasn't visited since the 24th on November but I am sure when he does, and if he knows your granda he will update you. There is a Facebook group - Friends Of Bates Colliery - where there are a few ex Bates Colliery workers that occasionally add photos and we share many photos between the two groups. The facebook group is a 'Closed' group so you would have to join if you wanted to browse through the photos on that group. This is a link to that group :- https://www.facebook.com/groups/batescolliery/ There is also a Bates Colliery Photo Album within the Gallery on this group. The album is under Galley>Places Gallery>Bates Pit by High Pit Wilma - this is a link to the album :-
  11. @gary crozier - added your list of names to the photo and added the updated photo to the Facebook groups - Past Times History & Friends of Bates Colliery
  12. Bill - I have seen something posted about the houses but can't remember where - I'll will do some searching and see if i can find it but it might not give the full history
  13. Different dancing fella to the one in the Gallery Bill, this one also got drunk and danced in front of a band all the way doon to Atley Park but he must of had a year off when he dressed up as Davey Crocket. He is Elliot Hall
  14. @HIGH PIT WILMA - now these two are the Miners Picnic, c1956, and the guy in the front of the first photo, with the girls either side of him, wearing the Davey Crocket gear is an ex Dr Pit, then Bates worker. I believe for the picnic in the 60's this guy would always be seen dancing, with rubbery legs, in front of one of the bands. He used to Live in Gordon Terrace in the 1950's then moved to Melrose Terrace in the 60's.

  17. Names from No 10, Colin Davison - Facebook Bedlington remembered group.
  18. Some photos shared by John Brown - along with the comment he posted on the Facebook group Bygone Bedlington :- John Brown The Acorn Bank opencast site at Bedlington around 1956. We called the dragline Big Bertha but it could have been anything really. It is amazing to think how many kids used to play around the site, climbing on the plant and getting rides in the Euclids which seemed to be as high as a house. Health & Safety what?
