@Handsome AL - No 6 updated. I was busy adding Lynn Charlton (named by Colin Scott's wife Susan but I don't know which one she is in the photo) as a possible for No 19 when you added your comment. I have asked Colin Scott, Facebook Bygone Bedlington group about No 19 - Lynn Charlton or Shirley Sissons. -
Carr's Buildings - where were they?
Alan Edgar (Eggy1948) replied to Alan Edgar (Eggy1948)'s topic in History Hollow
@HIGH PIT WILMA - last attempt. Loaded a family photo and it loaded as expected the right way up. Clagged the extract from the family bible onto the family photo , saved it and loaded that and hey presto you don't have to get ya bent aad neck aroond . ps - grannie Henderson - March 1899 to April 1991 = 92. Still a good age but the one think that really upset her was having so many of her her children, and their spouse, + grandchildren die before her. -
Carr's Buildings - where were they?
Alan Edgar (Eggy1948) replied to Alan Edgar (Eggy1948)'s topic in History Hollow
Forgot to add the extract from the old bible :- ps - I've had 5 attempts to get this file to load so it can be read from top to bottom without twisting one's neck. I've resized it by reducing the height and width - changed just the height - changed just the width but no matter what I do it loads the same = as above🤔 -
Has anyone any idea where Carrs Buildings were in Bedlington? I have just found entries in me grannies old family bible that shows both my mam, Nancy Henderson born 1920, and her brother Martin, born 1921, with Carr's Buildings next to their D.o.B.. The next 7 children in the family, born between 1923 & 1937, have Haig Road next to their D.o.B. As me granda worked at the Dr. Pit I would guess Carr's buildings were either on the Glebe Bank or Vulcan Place - Beach Grove area. I have searched the old maps; Googled the www and checked on the Bedlington Facebook and community groups but Carr's Buildings doesn't get a mention. The only mention of Carr's I can find is in the Bedlington Timeline document = 1854 William Carr begins Bedlington's first newsagents in January. It was situated on Front Street East - but no idea if this man was linked to Carr's Buildings. @Rigger - @Canny lass - have either of you two remember if you have found any entries for Carr's Buildings into your respective searches of the area? @HIGH PIT WILMA - was there a Carr's Buildings behind Front Street East before you got to Hollymount?

The worst smells in the bedlington area while growing up
Alan Edgar (Eggy1948) replied to Tonyp's topic in Chat Central
When one is the youngest of three lads, sharing a bedroom in the early 50's, one was often forced by the other two under the bed covers and subjected to many foul smells -

Miners Killed In Bedlington Pits
Alan Edgar (Eggy1948) replied to mickypotts's topic in History Hollow
@Ingrid - I would expect for the era you are researching the miners were living in the pit village and there was a pit in Chopington.. Checking the Durham Mining Museum (DMM) site it shows the Choppinton pit opened in 1857, closing in July 1966. There is no record of anyone with the surname Lake in the list of names of those killed at Choppington pit. This is a link to the Choppington colliery info on the DMM site :- http://www.dmm.org.uk/colliery/c011.htm When I have a bit more time I will have a look on the old maps so you can see where the pit was. -

Alan Edgar (Eggy1948) replied to Alan Edgar (Eggy1948)'s topic in Chat Central
@Andy Millne - has anyone from the East Bedlington Community Centre ever been in touch with you about advertising their events? Stacey Chisholm Price on the Bedlington & Cambois Facebook groups, this week has posted three events taking place at the centre. I copied one of them - Jobs Fair - onto the Events calendar and Chat Central on this site. Might be worth contacting them to see if the East bedlington Community Centre staff wanted to join, and use the facilities of, this group. -

Alex - I can do that - I have taken a copy of your email address. There is also a method of 'Downloading' images that have been posted to your Download folder on whatever device you are using to access this group. If you select an image that has been posted it expands and then when you right click (if using mouse) on the expanded image you get the option to 'save image as' or 'copy image'. I will ask Admin, @Andy Millne - @John Fox (foxy) to remove your email address from your comment. It's just a safeguard as it stops 'spammers' getting access to members email addresses. If you want to pass personal info to another member it's best to use the 'Private' Message system = white envelope at the top right hand corner of the blue banner at the top of ever screen. I will message you and the email you.
