Time will tell folks. I think once people realise they will be getting something out of it, they will show a little more willing. Its a case of working together and meeting each other half way rather than instilling a "them and us " attitude. You only get out what you put in, as they say. There is plenty of help on offer and if we use it wisely, there is absolutely no reason why we cannot be successfull. Bernicia had the flyers printed for us (I produced them) they printed the copiesof the constitution (saved my ink) and they are making all new tenants aware of the group. They are also vetting all new applicants as to their suitability, police checks, previous tenancies etc. Malcolm did say a short while ago, that if we got this going, we would be flavour of the month and it seems he is right.

I have had one of these for years (too many to recall) It seems that they are so expensive now, the only way that most people can have access to one, is to hire one. (until now, check this place out)

Maggie, my opinions on the subject are aimed purely at this particular woman and the way she conducted herself after a very privelaged education, not against the suffragette movement in general. I am not sexist, nor am I a bigot. My opinions of Emily Wilding Davison will always completely differ from yours and anyone else who supports her for that matter. There will never be any middle ground. Also, may I add, I have not said anything on here that I would not say to anyones face in Morpeth or anywhere else. I wonder how an on camera interview with the family of the Kings jockey would go down, had the technology been available then ?. (in the style of the modern commentators / interviewers ) The likes of Browell Smith and Co and Winns solicitors would have had a field day, if todays attitudes to this sort of thing were arround then, Whiplash anyone !!! ? Now the fact that I would not let my wife learn to drive simply because I feel she dosn't need a driving licence to get from the kitchen to the bedroom, does not mean that I disrespect women, it just means that if we had a bigger house I would think about it......... can't get fairer than that , can ya ?

Bedlington Station will rank low enough in the tables of deprivation.

As of today there is a new residents group in Bedlington. The Burnside Estate Residents Group was formed and will include the residents of Moorland Cottages and Thomas Holliday Homes. The constitution was presented to the meeting and adopted. The turn out could have been better, but those residents who were there contributed positively and enthusiastically. We are receiving support from Bernicia, East Bedlington Parish Council, Northumbria Police and Wansbeck CVS. The reputation that Burnside has had over the last decade or two has not been the best, to say the least. Things have improved significantly over the last 12 months or so and it is our intention to build on that and make it an estate that people wont be ashamed to admit to living on. There are many good people living on this estate and they have had to suffer the stigma of living on Burnside because of the way a certain few chose to lead their lives by disrepecting their neighbours and environment and, in doing so, tarring everyone on the estate with the same brush, things can only change for the better. Had she survived the colision, I would say she would have been criminalised, rather than martyrd after death. The fact that "she took one for the cause" is no excuse for endangering other peoples lives. As far as I can see these women were downright selfish as to bringing attention to their actions. Most of them wealthy women with nothing better to do. Emily Davisons intentions were to go to France to visit her sister for a while shortly after the Derby. ........ All this for a vote , take a look at the clowns running the country now. That's what the vote gave you !!!

I'm afraid I am with Keith L on this one. This was a well educated woman (London and Oxford Universities) who decided to use her expensive education to cause disruption, she was a socialite of the time with a criminal record that would not look out of place in the run down inner city or dock areas. She was a militant activist who had would disregard the safety and well being of others just to get noticed. She was just as familiar with the inside of places like strangeways jail as she was with the corridors of Oxford University. Her plan to stick a flag on the kings horse as it was going full pelt on Epsom racecourse is beyond belief. She fully intended to do the horse and (or) jockey some real harm that day, its hard to believe otherwise. Whether she intended to take her own life is debateable, but totaly believeable. (return tickets and ball tickets or not ) If anyone does this today they would (I imagine) be charged with trespass and endangering lives and property. Had she survived the incident she would have no doubt gone to jail AGAIN. She was a poor little rich girl with too much time and money on her hands.

I worked with a guy who had it done and he said it was the best thing he had done. Really I should look at having it done, I cant hear a thing out of my right lug, had an op on it 20 years ago but it is back to square one.

Hatchet lived in the Dr Pit Rows, he was in my class at the Whitley. There was quite a lot at the Westridge from the Poplar Grove, Hudson Ave, Dean View area, my cousins the Coulthards lived in Poplar Grove, Richard,George,Gordon and Elizabeth all went to Westridge.
