  1. A good place to learn from as well Maggie. I recently walked round Chillingham churchyard and the list of friends and former neighbours taking up residence in there is growing at an alarming rate. Doesn't half stir some memories though.
  2. Burnside Estate Residents Group have just opened their account with Unity Trust. It took less than a fortnight from posting the forms to getting the account details (yesterday). At first we tried to keep the account local, as advised and we whent to Lloyds TSB in Bedlington. Unity Trust have helped us every step of the way, L-TSB were exactly the opposite they promised a call from an advisor the next day (after we enquired) that call came 2 weeks later, even then after 2 or 3 calls from us to gee them up. The guy seemed a right plonker he wouldnt beleive that members would not be paying subs, he wanted to know exactly how much was to be paid in and spent every month etc etc . I phoned Wansbeck CVS and they told us that the TSB were out of order asking questions we could not answer and the ammount going in and out had nothing to do with them, that is our business. WCVS put me onto Unity Trust who specialise in groups like ours and they could not have been more helpful.
  3. If, as was suggested last year, that it was just as well the grass was left long , "to soak up all the rain" where did the money go to that was saved from NOT cutting the grass.? (less fuel, less frequent services /repairs etc.) The same would apply in drought conditions when the grass would not grow.
  4. I'll be across there tomorrow hauling coal from the opencast, any messages for her ?
  5. OK !! I'll send the Lockey brothers round, spark plugs are their speciality. They also have experience with dead horses ( well, their heads anyway ) :dribble:
  6. I was at 49 then (in the airey houses) The Huttons lived at 51
  7. I bought a spark plug from you in 1996, it stopped working last week. I expect you to replace this faulty item free of charge at the earliest opportunity .
  8. Was just going to say Don Hutton , Tony. His mam and dad lived 2 doors from us when we lived in Waverley Avenue.
  9. We should'nt encourage him ^^^^^^ really. His nurse has been put on short time.
  10. I just knew that there was something familiar about that pic with the porch, just could not make it click. Had I logged on earlier Iwould have got it from the last photo. As you say the lampost by the Stewards house (now) is the give away.
  11. No end to my talent. I'm actually in training to a clir clayer .... Claravoi ............. MEDIUM !!
  12. The pattern of the boarding on that porch looks very familier, I just can't think where though.
  13. They all played musicians or singers !!

  15. Dorty cheesey chip scoffing makem ..... ^&%$%^$£
  16. Not many wagon drivers get the chance to wait for instructions from the met while actually parked on the Mall. Then nip through the Admiralty Arch to block Traffalger Square off and park the truck up in a side street in Whitehall for a few hours while the Queen goes about her business, good skive for 8 hours or so and geting paid. Also two of us drove fully freighted artics actually INSIDE the Alexandra Palace. That place is massive.
  17. I used to work for a firm in Nottingham that provides the concrete security barriers for state and high profile events. Many of you may remember the wagon parked in the car park in Bedlington with a forklift hanging off the back. We would do things such as state visits. (I did the president Bush state visit), state openings of parliament, rememberance parade, we did the security for the G8 summit at Gleneagles, the Queen mothers funeral (twice) etc etc. One of the most upsetting was the 7/7 London bombings, I barricaded off the bus that was bombed (not a pretty sight). Next week they will be called on to provide barriers for the funeral of Margaret Thatcher. I think they will struggle to get drivers to do it, many of them are ex miners from Nottinghamshire, decendants of miners who migrated from the North East. Those who were'nt miners, have family members who were affected by the strike. Memories are long, and grievances still fester away for many. Couple that with the threat of some sort of violent action on the day, it would not be a surprise if there was a shortage of drivers volunteering to go down there next Wednesday.
  18. That picure somewhat flatters you , old bean
