I was actually joking doglover, I have worked in the area and drive through less frequently as it's quicker for me going along to guidepost. From personal experience the area doesn't have a bad reputation and you certainly do not have to be brave to go through the station. Some sort of recreational activities to stop the young'uns hanging around at the brick bus stop across from Boots would be an advantage.

Or reduce the cost of the licenses and make it conditional that the staff have to tidy up a certain area around the shop. Although that would definitely prevent the council from spending it and that's not going to happen. Like Keith says though, I drive through every now and then when I am feeling brave and have to go to Spar or fancy a detour and it is in a sorry state. Signed the petition for the Metro extension but that has been promised for god knows how long now as I remember being told about the plans when i was still cycling to Whitley Bay to go to the leisure pool and spend my pocket money at Spanish City. You just have to look at the sort of regeneration that Shiremoor/Backworth/Northumberland Park has had with the introduction of shops, Bellway homes and direct bus links across the region. We need some way of getting the Bedlington-living commuters out of there homes and in and around Bedlington on a regular basis to get them to participate in e-peitions and local events but surely by introducing a Metro system and giving people direct links to Newcastle people are going to venture away from both the Top End and the Station. Keep them in, lock the doors and only offer a horse and trap for direct access to Newcastle.

Thankyou Malcolm. Are you aware if the alcohol tagging is in place in the area too? I know it was being used (possibly trialled) in Blyth but it would be a good indication as to where the alcohol is coming from. It can't be the supermarkets as I can't even get served for alcohol at 25 (Look about 45 with a beard, which is more often than not).

I know of a system where each shop that serves alcohol has a number so when said louts are found with drink when they shouldn't have it they can trace the bottle/cans back to the shop that sold the alcohol in the first place and there were provisions to prosecute the shop owner/keeper for selling the alcohol. I am not sure is this was an effort to increase the vigilance of the shopkeepers as opposed to preventing the sale of alcohol but I heard of the scheme having some success in Blyth. Maybe if this is not active in the Bedlington area then it should be looked into as there are not too many places where young'uns can obtain alcohol, as say surrounding towns. As for the park, how about a bill wall where it is acceptable for the young'uns to "decorate". That sort of action has proved successful in places like San Francisco and saved the surrounding buildings if there are legitimate places for the more creative to express there work. One wall rendered and painted white every so often wouldn't be a huge expense and we might even discover the next Banksy I personally don't mind graffiti if it is well thought out and drawn. I object to chavvy nicknames scrawled all over buildings with a paint marker because Stacee luvs Macca and the likes.

If you're that concerned Merlin, why not organise some sort of community event in the evenings so that the louts you mentioned can use the facilities that will be provided and hopefully they will respect the park rather than abuse it. Maybe setup a voluntary 5-a-side tournament on a weekly basis or something similar. If I remember correctly there was something not too long ago which setup in Tesco car park with a make-shift 5-a-side court but a more regular event organised might lure people away from the drinking of cider and do something more productive.

Yes as we have the capacity stadiums and it wouldn't cost anything to host the football. But obviously Qatar makes more sense. I have no interest in the Olympics. Host them all in Greece and feed the losers to lions, it's only tradition and it would save us splashing cash we don't have.

I for one, won't be paying for Sky Sports or Sky for that matter to watch the F1 so my Saturdays and Sundays are going to be alot more productive.
