Bedlington Secondary Modern School

Hello everybody, I am totally new to this and hope i am doing this right. I was born in bedlington and still live here and have some fond memories and old school photos of the 'Woody' school from 1969 - 1972. (We moved to princess louise road after the school burnt down.) I will be adding the photos soon - and that is the reason why I am joining. My brother and myself are trying to remember when the Woody school went up in flames - we think 1970. He is joining this forum too so we will be able to share our thoughts. So hello to everyone and hope to relive some memories. Keith Lockey.

Hello everybody, having great trouble adding my photos to ANYWHERE!!! I tried to create an album but it appears I need permission. I have nine photos of the 'Woody School' pupils and I can't post them. Help!

I made the below post with instructions on how to upload photos to the bedlington site.

Cheers everyone. I will be putting more class photos on but some are not mine and I want to get permission. PS. Having trouble with my computer ever since it got zapped by the storm. Did anyone hear a strange sound just before it started?

No, Malcolm, don't start me on MIL jokes....too late. Les Dawson classic. "Me and the wife came out the pub and saw four skinheads attacking the mother in law. my wife said 'aren't you going to help?' I said, 'no, four should be enough.'"

Les Dawson again, "There was a knock at the door, I knew it was the mother in law because the mice were throwing themselves into the traps".

Les Dawson again, "We used to go to Ireland every year to see the mother in law, she lived in Birmingham, but she looked better from Ireland".

Welcome aboard Keith! I am also new to here...gonna have fun!

  • 2 months later...

I was married in 1967,and lived with my dear old Mother-in - law,for two years, till we got our own place.

She was closer to me than my own Mother in lots of ways, but that,s beside the point i wanted to make

We lived at Grange Park, and one night, about 11-30pm,our bedroom windows went as bright as day, with a yellow flickering glow....obviously a big fire somewhere near..

Now this could have been anywhere between late 1967,to mid 1970..[when we moved]

Anyway,me being a nosy sod,got back oot'o bed, dressed, inti me little yellow Ford Anglia 105e ,[with the reverse-angled rear window!],and away up to Moorland Avenue.[no spine road then, and no cross-roads]

I parked up on the left and ran along to the big fence which was the playing field perimeter ......and there was the most awesome sight!!!!!

The school was totally ablaze....and the firemen were playing it as best they could but really just had to do what the rest of us were doing...watch helplessly!!!

Normally my camera would have been firing [ugghhh!] from the hip,but because i was awakened by all this....i forgot to take it,then the police moved all of us away, even though we were a real long distance away to start with.

Noo,was this the Woody school you all talk about?

Good days i was at the wood school 1956 till 1960
