Greetings,

I'm new to this site but not to Bedlington. I've lived in Australia for over forty years, visiting it twice in the '80's. I'm making contact with the old place and would be particularly interested in those that went to the school near Burnside. I lived in Burnside in the '60's while my family returned from Australia.

Hello Barchetta, welcome to the site. I have a photo here of the Bedlington Station school, just up from Burnside. (I also have some posted on the Secondary Modern & Woody School sites.) I can name some of the kids and know some of them lived in Burnside. Hope it's of help.

Hello Terrier. Gee that was quick. My brother went to Woodbridge up to 1969 until our departure to Aus. My Nana lived in Burnside, number 113 I think. Lizzy Johnson.

Terrier, I've had a look at the photo. I would've been at the school at this time. I remember a teacher of French, male. Can't remember his name. I remember a brother and sister on my class. I think his name was Roger, hers!!!

Apologies, I believe Terrier is Keith.

Yeah, Keith, not Terrier, its okay. I'm not on that photo which was taken about 1968. I went to another school but I recognise many faces because we all ended up at the Secondary Modern - the Woody School. One person I remember from Burnside was Peter Davies. He's the same age as me 55-56 yrs old. Funny enough I just saw him today in his van. We had a 'French' teacher at the Woody School call Mister Dodds but I don't know if it's the same one. Check out the photos on the Woody School site I started in HISTORY HOLLOW. I have the names of people on there. All the best, Keith. (ps - You said your brother went to Woodbridge! Do you mean Westridge?)

Thanks Keith. Good old Burnside. I remember kick the ball round between my Nanas house and Jimmy Blairs. I think Jimmy was a retired Miner. He passed away years ago as did my Nana. Next to Jimmy was the Eastons. We used to play in the field out back or down at Grange Park. I've still got family over there and over the years met new people in the area. Coincidentally, without knowing it I met a bloke here that lived at Burnside and moved to Australia a couple of years ago. I thinjk he's moving back. His Father went to school with my Mother.

Yes your right. I meant Westridge.

You guys are the same age as my brother, Tony Brown. I'm Paul. For some reason, the name that comes to mind of the French teacher is Mr Whately or Wheatley. Good bloke

Welcome Barchetta

Tony Brown ? there was a Tony Brown at the Whitley school when I was there, he would have left there in 1967 to go to Westridge, ( I whent to Marton) he was also in the scouts (14th Bedlington). We all whent to Norway together in the summer of '69 (there could be a song there). Would that be the same Tony Brown?

Gee Keith, you've been working on this. I've had quite few messages, all are appreciated. It's good after a day at work to read them.

Hi Keith, unfortunately I don't recognise anyone. Tony would have been there in '69 perhaps some of '68.

Your right Brian, West End is crap. Nobody drinks Fosters, atleast that I know. We get quite a lot of beers in Australia and we have quite a strong micro-brewery culture. Many of the mass produced beers like West End are really being challenged by makers that make far better beers.
