Hi Everyone,

I am Paul Maddison 57 years old and lived in Bedlington all my life but travelled an awful lot in my younger days. Went to the Whitley Memorial school (the old one). Then on too Bedlington County secondary (wooden one). which burnt down during my third year (I think). Remember Mr Laverick's bubble car being in the metal work room at the time and it being burnt in the fire!

Loved the old Bedlington of my youth with almost everything you needed available in Bedlington Station or Bedlington. Now you cannot even buy a pair of pants in either!

Lots of memories of getting the train from Bedlington station to either Newbiggin by the sea to visit my Aunt or to Newcastle (Manors), for the annual christmas shopping trip! Dad was a Miner at Netherton pit. Mam stayed home and kept the place tidy!

Married now and still in Bedlington.

Paul

Welcome on board Paul.

Welcome to the site.

Welcome Paul, I was 3 years ahead of you at Whitley and Westridge, any old pictures of way back when??

Hi Micky,

Went from Whitley Memorial to Bedlington Secondary modern. I have some photos somewhere in the house but finding them after Her indoors put them away will be a mammoth task.

I remember Miss. Nicholson in the first year class, Mr. Buckler in third (I think). Finally Mr. Hall in last year, in the prefab!

Paul.

Welcome Paul, that photo of you is spot on, it really does you justice.

By the way, I never knew Laverick's bubble car went up in flames in THE fire.

By the way it was Mister Butler, not Buckler at the Whitley - and Mickypotts, look at the photos I put on site in the Whitley School topic - I think it is in HISTORY HOLLOW.

All the best.

Again welcome to the forum Paul

Welcome to the site Paul, you were in my year I think at the Whitley, Miss Payne was the first year teacher. Looking at that picture you haven't changed a bit.

Welcome to the Forum Paul ... I'd suggest you take it easy here as, judging from your picture, you look like you've had a strenuous life :D

Sorry no, I was in Miss Nicholson's class first year at Whitley Memorial.

Paul.

Miss Nicholson was my 1st year teacher and Miss Payne was 3rd year, Matty Hall was 4th year, so who was 2nd year???

What is happening here? The fonts have a mind of their own tonight. I've had bold. I've had italic. I've had underlined and 'crossed out' (whatever that's now called in computer terms). It doesn't matter what I click on or mark. Nothing happens. It's a terrible thing when your your click loses it's power. I must be getting old!
