June 1, 201511 yr I hope all three of you have a speedy recovery, incidents like that certainly opens ones eyes and makes you appreciate life! If you were a cat how many lives would have left? I think you have used several of them already! ( working underground must have used up a few!) Do the police have any leads or have you become another statistic?
June 1, 201511 yr Missed your post about your accident Bill, Hope you, your wife and the dog are doing ok now. My dad had the same feelings as you about two years ago, on new years day of all times, when someone crashed into the van writing it off, lucky nobody in it at the time. Amazing thing was it was a Ford transit van which is about 2-3 ton anyway, filled up with about a ton of stuff in the back, parked in 1st gear with the handbrake on full and it still managed to move and have a lampost where the radiator was. My dad could have ripped the buggers head off as well, as it was just about to go in for its MOT. But lucky he did crash into the van as a few doors up from us a family was just about to get in there car and drive off, they were very shaken afterwards as the driver most likey would have wiped them out. But anyway hope you are all ok now or getting better.
June 1, 201511 yr Thanks Vic,and Adam!No word from the police since I made a statement nearly two weeks after it happened!!Aam ganna chase them up afore long, aam very tolerant and believe in letting them get on with thier work.Aav had four cars written off,the first one like Adams Dad,in 1978,aa was lying in bed at 5-0am..drunken driver wrote my car off at the door.Next three a was in the cars, lucky each time..this last one was the WORST one oot the lot!Vic,underground used aboot a hundred or more lives up ,so aam thinking he musn't want me yit!......wat's that aboot temptin' fate?!!
June 10, 201511 yr Hi Maggie!....not in this day and age, these sort of scum have nothing between their ears to be able to feel emotions of any kind. One of the Police Officers who were first on the scene said that for all she knew,[the female driver who ran],we might have been left for dead,or dying. It was a serious criminal offence, and they were sure they would arrest her very quickly, with the aid of the dogs, and the helicopter.......I'm still waiting!I'm now starting to doubt whether the chopper was indeed called out at all,cos my Wife was in the Ambulance a fair while, being seen to by the Paramedic Angels, and I never saw or heard it before we left for the Hospital. Now in that length of time, even a decrepit old bugger like me could have escaped over three fields and phoned a friend to pick me up somewhere!!I think I am not being told the full truth about things...which I fully understand, confidentiality and secrecy must prevail,or it wouldn't be much good having a police force otherwise. It would be nice to just be told they are still on the case, but I am afraid Vic may be right, and that we are just another statistic.
June 11, 201511 yr The penpushing Peeler bosses don't really care about the average punters' woes but just about reducing their stats; I'm sure the ordinary bizzies would like to collar as many scum as they can but are probably under orders that 'it's not cost effective' to do so.
June 15, 201511 yr Hi folks, update on accdent! Sym,you read me spot-on there!...the officers on the scene were like angels on earth, along with the doctor and paramedics.Highest esteem and respect for all of them. The Police even helped me unload my car contents into my Brother-in-law's car,and before my Bro-in-law came, they were gonna bring all my stuff,my Wife's mobility scooter, and my little black Jess,to my home, first, then take me across to the Hospital to be with my Wife.As it was,my B-in-L. saw to LBJ etc,and I travelled with my Wife in the Ambulance. When you see these guys on,in the Ambulance,at first hand, you canna help but be filled with a sense of admiration and gratitude!Noo,a got a call from the Police officer handling my case to say they have the third party driver, but she, unsurprisingly, has denied any part in the crash, coming oot wi nonsensical alibi's and stupid statements. So they can't go any further without any solid proof.[which is perfectly understandable.]Let's not forget credit to the Hospital staff who took my Wife straight in without any hanging around and had her X-rayed and given a thorough examination.A normally dinna wish any bad on anybody, but noo, just noo, this minute,a wud like ti see this person tek a blind corner at the same speed she was daeing, when she hit me,and find a Huge C.A.T in her way.....the tracked variety! Many thanks again to you all for your kind words of support.
June 15, 201511 yr Where's Charles Bronson (Death Wish fame) when you need him to deal with vile offenders? why not try and get the scumbag's name from the bizzzies?
June 16, 201511 yr Hi Sym,aa wud love to,but you know that would be ethically impossible...have you forgotten ,Sym,you have to protect the perpetrator, and punish the victim nowadays, she has probably claimed legal aid,and you and me will be paying for it....talk about rubbing salt in.....My Wife, and my little black Jess, are both frightened to travel in the car now, every time a car or other vehicle pass us on the inside to take a slip-road for instance,my Wife freezes with fear and grips the seat and door handle, and Jess cries in the back of the car when we are among traffic. How can you watch your loved ones feeling these fears, without wishing you could get the culprit and chop fingers off one by one?[and I am a very dociletolerant fella as anybody who knows me would agree].... [Adam and his Dad understand as they both know me..]Talking about "Cleaners"..."LEON"..would have done a proper job of this one also!!!Ye gotta see the funny side of life a suppose, even when there is nowt funny aboot it!!
August 14, 201510 yr Author Hi Liisa! The only person I knew, down the coalmines, where I worked, with a description and nickname anywhere near that which you have described ,was a big STRONG! Polish [i always thought] fella with the nickname of "Limpet" ....and everybody he worked with pronounced his surname as "Llondundra"....probably through lack of ability to pronounce his name correctly! He was so strong and a massive build, that he could do some jobs which involved a lot of pure muscle, which otherwise would take two or three men to do the same work.I once asked the Overman in charge, why they called him "Limpet",when I was just a young 17 year old transport lad , handling heavy machinery all day as my job.Joe Barrat, the Overman replied to me,"'cos when he gets a hold of you,he doesn't let go...so don't cross him!!"He was a very quiet fella, and kept himself to himself, but a hell of a good worker. It seems a massive co-incidence for this fella to fit your Dad's description, and not BE him.I worked with a canny few Polish,or Eukranian miner's,all who were really lovely natured blokes, and respected for their hardworking qualities, and the miners all had nicknames for them!!They never took any offence with this,as everybody had a daft[sometimes!]nickname.....look at mine...."Wilma"..!!One Polish fella was called "Gillawhisky" ["Gill of whisky"!],for "Gillazensky"!It was at Choppington B colliery where "Limpet " worked, when I knew him,but he would have moved around the pits,as I did, due to pit closures in the mid 1960's-70's.Now I am nearly 71,so that makes the age difference between us just about right,as he would have been probably in his thirties at the time, around 1961-66,when Choppington B Pit ["The High Pit"...] closed.[although everybody over 17 yrs of age, were old men....at the time!!,,life's funny like that isn't it!!I never met another fella with his build, strength, quiet nature, and Name, remotely similar to your Dad's so I hope I have been of Some help to you!A fellow contributor to this site, called "The Lone Ranger",also worked at the High Pit,and knew Limpet,so I hope he comes across this thread,as he knew him long before me.Hi, Many thanks - that's him!!! Yes, family joke that he was called Limpet. So lovely to read your posts which are so evocative and brilliantly written. And sorry for tardy reply but when I checked there were no replies at first so I am absolutely delighted to read your posts.I'm sure Lembit Rohumaa = Geordie translation to = Limpet Llondundra - I'll check on Google later!! Yes, ChoppingtonB sounds right as he lived in Sheepwash Avenue. The conditions were, as you say, unbelievable - he always had an inch long scar with a black line on his hand which he said was his lucky piece of coal. Thanks you so much for replying,Liisa
August 14, 201510 yr Author Many thanks for all your very kind words, all of you,I can say we were all, [My Wife and Little Black Jess..who was in the back fast asleep..and myself..]......very lucky to be alive.I thank Vauxhall's Traction Control System for helping me to bring a car which was up on it's side on two wheels,[after being rammed from the front nearside],to a safe halt....even though my nearside front end of the car was severely damaged, and the roadwheel was mangled backwards, with the suspension, driveshaft, and steering rods all destroyed mechanically. My car veered violently from one side grass verge to the other side verge and back again, throwing my Wife around like a crash test dummy, knocking her unconcious. My car travelled 150 yards down the road from the site of the collision, braking only on two wheels, and me fighting like hell to keep it on the road.I truly thought my Wife was dead.My little Dog [Jess] was also thrown around, and is now very nervous, and spooks at the slightest of unexpected noises.Thankfully we are all recovering slowly, from whiplash and other expected joint pains all over.My Wife is now very frightened to travel in the car, even though she has to,being disabled to start with. One thing I can tell you is what I told a Police Officer who attended the scene,"If she was standing here noo,a wudn't think twice aboot ripping her heed off,for wat she's done to my Wife and little Dog.."[Referring to the other female driver who tried to drive her wrecked car away, and did so,for about four hundred yards, and when it seized up,got out and ran away on foot.]The Police Helicopter, and Tracker dogs failed to find her in the surrounding fields!Stolen car-cloned registration plates! What chance have I got?!If she sees this,by any chance....[and you never know weirdo's].......she needs to take note.........if I get to know who she is...I just need to be lucky once .......she needs to be lucky all the time! Thanks again folks, let's get back to light entertainment eh?!! Hi, Many thanks - that's him!!! Yes, family joke that he was called Limpet. So lovely to read your posts which are so evocative and brilliantly written.
