  1. On the face of it this looks like really good news for the town but a little closer inspection maybe needed! Couple of points, why is the new store designed so the main entrance is at the back and what impact will that have on the Front Street, if it is supposed to be all about economic regeneration of Front Street? The car park is to be the normal Tesco jobbie, i.e. only free for so long. There are exceptions of course but the biggest free car park in the town is now private. Maybe the planners need to be a bit more on their game with this one seeing as the Sally Army building is staying as is having just been given retrospective permission! Anyone else a bit unhappy with the much lauded news that Bedders will get a million quid in grant funding one minute then WDC sell land and assets in the town for the same amount without, at present, any more for the town? Looks to be given with one hand and taken with the other, course one is grant funded the other might be used to buy some ‘golden parachutes!’ The questionnaire handed out by Tesco’s, the last question is about the underpass at Glebe road, what on earth has that to do with them? Final point about the development, seems the head honchos at WDC are to step down as directors of W.H., the business set up to take over running of the old council houses, and are now the board of W.L., the company set up to run the likes of the new shops being built at this site. Hmmmm...........
  2. I beleive the Tony guy set him up to be knocked over by a hit and run? Now his sister can do what she does best and have streaming eye make-up!
  3. Lot of fish oil though, just think of all those omega 3's!
  4. Northumberland County Council............23 million in an Icelandic bank??????? Council tax to leap next year??????
  5. Happy birthday GGGG.
  6. Happy birthday Cympil......
  7. Following the problems in the sub-prime lending market in America and the run on Northern Rock in the UK, uncertainty has now hit Japan. In the last 7 days Origami Bank has folded, Sumo Bank has gone belly up and Bonsai Bank announced plans to cut some of its branches. Yesterday, it was announced that Karaoke Bank is up for sale and will likely go for a song, while today shares in Kamikaze Bank were suspended after they nose-dived. While Samurai Bank is soldiering on following sharp cutbacks, Ninja Bank is reported to have taken a hit, but they remain in the black. Furthermore, 500 staff at Karate Bank got the chop and analysts report that there is something fishy going on at Sushi Bank where it is feared that staff may get a raw deal.
  8. It would seem to be the cost of 'zero tolerance' but then it probably has more to do with boys and their toys!

  10. Looks like it might not be as straightforward as it at first seemed, the guys who have to agree it need votes off J.Public and once they see how much it will cost them.......... The Swedish answer looks worthy of closer inspection though, if it has to go that way.
  11. No takers........how about this then. If you had purchased £1,000 of Northern Rock stock one year ago, it would be worth ziltch today. With HBOS, you would have £16.50 left of the original £1,000. With XL Leisure, you would have less than a fiver. And if you had purchased £1,000 of Seguro Air Lines stock, you would have a measly 49p. However, if you had purchased £1,000 worth of Tennent's Lager one year ago, drank the lot of it, then re-cycled the cans at an aluminium plant for a cash refund, you would have £214. And so, based on the above information, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle
  12. Xmas is coming anyone for sprouts? http://www.christmastimeuk.com/game/
  13. Has the Fed just made the stock markets a one way ride, in the short term anyway, or has the USA now got the biggest council estate in the world?

  16. Wee Hughie adored and loved his girlfriend, Lorraine, to whom he was engaged to be married. Wedding plans were well underway and he was looking forward to spending the rest of his life with Lorraine. However, a beautiful young lady called Clearly came to work in his glen and they found that they got on together very well. As time went by, Wee Hughie realised that he was in love with Clearly and that the love was reciprocated. Being a gentleman he decided that as he had promised to marry Lorraine he would do so and steadily removed himself from his other relationship. One day, he and Lorraine were walking along the banks of the River Tay. As they walked, Lorraine slipped and fell into the river and was swept away and drowned. He stood on the bank for a few minutes feeling very sad before walking away singing happily. "I can see Clearly now Lorraine has gone"
  17. I think Mr. D has a point and it seems we have had 2 replies from local businesses with one reinforcing Mr.D’s concern? Of course there should be a place for lively/fun banter but that isn’t all this site is about. Every newspaper has a comic section! So maybe demarcation along the lines of what Mr.D suggests is needed? With the soon to be change in local gov and Bedlington being split into 3 separate parts, a backward step if there was ever one, the Town needs an open and accessible portal more than ever. I would like to see the minutes of the soon to be Parish meetings published here, the minutes of all the voluntary groups operating in the town etc if only so anyone can drop in and see what is proposed for the future or how issues are being dealt with. There should also be the possibility of replies/suggestions/debate for these topics but that will take serious and constant moderating. I know what you are saying GGG but for whatever reason, and you may be right most have their heads in the sand, they have made a call and that is they wont come onboard as it is now.
  18. Congratulations Toyko Girl, although it sounds like quite an ordeal but as you say the end result was worth it. All the best for your recovery.
  19. I think quite the opposite Mr D. I would hazard a guess that Tesco have seen the possibilites Bedders has to offer being in the middle of Ash,Mor,Blyth and Cram! Might just be that Bedders gets the one big new one?
  20. So Tesco have bought the 'Gap site' and the old 'Presto's car park' for a million, but I wonder where the money goes? Included in any future development are small retail and office units managed exclusivley by Wansbeck Life Ltd. Now just who runs Wansbeck Life again............ This is the same carve up as the housing stock, Bedlington is being asset stripped before WDC disappears!
  21. That isn't my info sizsells, seems the planners have become retrospectivley involved!
  22. May well be problems with this building...............
  23. Happy birthday Mr.Darn, hope you have a good one........
  24. Three women: one engaged, one married and one a mistress, are chatting about their relationships and decided to amaze their men. That night all three decided to wear black leather bras, stiletto heels and a mask over their eyes. After a few days they meet up for lunch. The engaged woman: The other night when my boyfriend came over he found me with a black leather bodice, tall stilettos and a mask. He saw me and said, 'You are the woman of my life. I love you.' Then we made love all night long. The mistress: Me too! The other night I met my lover at his office and I was wearing the leather bodice, heels, mask over my eyes and a raincoat. When I opened the raincoat he didn't say a word, but we had wild sex all night. The married woman: I sent the kids to stay at my mother's house for the night. When my husband came home I was wearing the leather bodice, black stockings, stilettos and a mask over my eyes. As soon as he came in the door and saw me he said, 'What's for dinner, Batman?'
  25. In the beginning God covered the earth with broccoli, cauliflower and spinach, with green, yellow and red vegetables of all kinds so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives. Then using God's bountiful gifts, Satan created Dairy Ice Cream and Magnums. And Satan said, 'You want hot fudge with that? And Man said, 'Yes!' And Woman said, 'I'll have one too with chocolate chips'. And so they gained 10 pounds. And God created the healthy yoghurt that woman might keep the figure that man found so fair. And Satan brought forth white flour from the wheat and sugar from the cane and combined them. And Woman went from size 12 to size 14. So God said, 'Try my fresh green salad'. And Satan presented Blue Cheese dressing and garlic croutons on the side. And Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast. God then said 'I have sent you healthy vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them'. And Satan brought forth deep fried coconut king prawns, butter-dipped lobster chunks and chicken fried steak, so big it needed its own platter, and Man's cholesterol went through the roof. Then God brought forth the potato; naturally low in fat and brimming with potassium and good nutrition. Then Satan peeled off the healthy skin and sliced the starchy centre into chips and deep-fried them in animal fats adding copious quantities of salt. And Man put on more pounds. God then brought forth running shoes so that his Children might lose those extra pounds. And Satan came forth with a cable TV with remote control so Man would not have to toil changing the channels. And Man and Woman laughed and cried before the flickering light and started wearing stretch jogging suits. Then God gave lean beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And Satan created McDonalds and the 99p double cheeseburger. Then Satan said 'You want fries with that?' and Man replied, 'Yes, and super size 'em'. And Satan said, 'It is good.' And Man and Woman went into cardiac arrest. God sighed ......... and created quadruple by-pass surgery. And then ............ Satan chuckled and created the National Health Service !!
