  1. In the wake of the disaster Robens refused to allow the NCB to fund the removal of the remaining tips from Aberfan, despite the fact that the Davies Tribunal concluded that the NCB's liability was "incontestible and uncontested". Despite this conclusion, Robens refused to pay the full cost. This put the Trustees of the Disaster Fund, which had been raised by public appeal, under "intolerable pressure". Robens then "raided" the Fund for £150,000 (£1.8 million at 2003 prices[6])to cover the cost of removing the tips – an action that was "unquestionably unlawful" under charity law – and the Charity Commission took no action to protect the Fund from Robens's dubious appropriation of funds. Flipping heck..........didn't know that GGG.
  2. Mine closures.........Adam.
  3. Question...........Tesco... is any development better than no development? Or is a comprehensive, properly worked through, systematic overhaul of options and town development needed to see our Town continue never mind prosper over the next few decades. Some half wit wrote a bit in last weeks NPL about the NCC Core Strategy not allowing us that choice! As a 'B' listed Town we continue our Catch 22 existence, not low enough in the tables of deprivation to get help and not affluent enough not to need a helping hand. Only thing I could see to try and do was to change that listing!
  4. The police commissioners looked to me to be a typical knee jerk reaction to particular problems in some constabularies. Too hot for our normal politicos to handle, or was there just too many skeletons which the cops had the keys for, so farm the problem out. Same way consultants are brought in to handle the bad news/reorganisations/mine closures etc. Whatever these new cop watchers bring in now its nowt to do with our present wonderful crop of political clowns! Under the old system we had a semblance of democratic control over policing now unless we go the whole American hog and we see elected sheriffs I can't see where the democracy comes in. Unless we regard a single elected police commissioner with a £6 grand deposit and political party allegiance as democratic enough.
  5. Not a reasonable position to say there is voter apathy unless there is a NOTA on the ballot papers. I was never happy with the choices on offer! I presume Keef2 you would use that? Spoilt papers used to be counted until the last election where there was a movement to jump on that for all disaffected voters.
  6. Explains a lot Sym
  7. Well it seems we used to recognise people for what they did or real achievements, pity the tradition hasn't been continued maybe we wouldn't have so many useless celebrities!
  8. Maggie you have just increased the Trolls activity on this site by 250%! I would like to take my name out of this..............for the time being! Maggie/Sym would you object?
  9. Back online at last! Sorry Maggie only the Pope can resign from this site!!!!!! Looks like fairly balanced, if a smidgen towards the dark side, banter to me! Pull ya necks in and get on with it, no need for anyone to fall out. The mods have spoken!

  19. Psalm 130.... From the depths, I have cried out to you, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. If you, Lord, were to mark iniquities, who, O Lord, shall stand? For with you is forgiveness; and because of your law, I stood by you, Lord. My soul has stood by his word. My soul has hoped in the Lord. From the morning watch, even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. For with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
  20. De profundis clamavi ad te, Domine; Domine, exaudi vocem meam. Fiant aures tuæ intendentes in vocem deprecationis meæ. Si iniquitates observaveris, Domine, Domine, quis sustinebit? Quia apud te propitiatio est; et propter legem tuam sustinui te, Domine. Sustinuit anima mea in verbo ejus: Speravit anima mea in Domino. A custodia matutina usque ad noctem, speret Israël in Domino. Quia apud Dominum misericordia, et copiosa apud eum redemptio. Et ipse redimet Israël ex omnibus iniquitatibus ejus.
  21. Sounds like the plot of a 1950's B movie?
  22. Sounds like a western I once saw Keef2. Can't you give us an actors name or summik to go on............
  23. For a deity that "knows all, sees all” and has "divine retribution” been asleep on the job here God? Looks like it could be financial corruption throughout the organisation incestuously linked with questionable sexual deviancy. Doubt we will ever get the full and real truth. So we will soon have two very separate "direct” descendants from St Peter, or Popes, as head of the church? Someone will write a sit com about this stuff.
  24. Friends of Gallagher Park are putting on a Craft Fayre on 9th March. See poster.
