Somewhere John I read that Cambois was THE important port of call in early history. I will at some stage try to find the reference. It makes sense to me because of the nearness of the two rivers. Therefore a defensive place to land, or to live. Bedlington because of the higher ground would be a good place to defend. Fight or flight. Down to Humford and away.

Excellent work, pity earlier dates could not be added. No written records! We need a time machine to go back to the future. One thing we all agree on is the importance of Bedlington in our lives. From the depths of our hearts we have learnt to love the place. 'What is this life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare' Maybe we should keep Bedlington for ourselves.

An interesting observation Wilma! Everyone's views are important and where people seek to achieve the moral high ground, they loose the argument, in my opinion. Thatcher is history now and even having a pint of cider with her name on the product can cause a reaction! The facts speak for themselves. We have no longer many major manufacturers in the global market. (Ship building, cars, etc not to mention the coal industry) We have allowed, even our chocolate firms to be bought out. Thatcher beat the unions because she closed the industries they represented. There is a fantastic song called 'Raise your banners high' which represents what we used to have. A fair minded society where people helped others because it was the decent thing to do. Not because they were motivated by money. What did Harry Enfield's character say 'Loads of money'
