1950 Class 2
Now for the throwing the spanner in the works bit Vic! Jim Hardy has now posted his list of names that he has sellotaped on the back of the original photo. Naturally jumping back a mere 66 years there are bound to be mix ups with some of the names and there are a few differences to what HPW and your good wife recalled. It's times like these when technology can be thrown out the window. We need a large table, print outs and all people concerned debating, and naturally some alcohol to fuel the debate. I have update the names and will add the revised edition + Jim's photo of the names to this comment. When Jim posted this photo he part of his comment was - 'Whitley Memorial junior 1950'. When I replied and said thank you for posting the original I added, diplomatically, - 'this is the Village School, isn't it?' He replied with the a one line comment - 'Whitley memorial junior 1950'. So even tho it says on the board within the photo 'BEDLINGTON VILLAGE INFANTS 1950 CLASS 2' Jim says different. I'm sticking with HPW and you. I'm still using my Desktop PC Vic, it's the only bit of hardware I have. Mine was purchased a mere 8 years ago, and the 19" screen + large keyboard is wonderful. Just got to hope they see me out! Now the pics - updates to Nos 9,10,11,12,16,19,21,24,25,27,41 & 42 - some just spelling, others a different name :-

Vic - unfortunately - a photo of the original photo is what has been uploaded. I have added it here, without any numbers & names so you can get a 'clean' copy if you want one. If you want me to add the numbers & names to this one just say so and I will do it.

1950 Class 2
Working on it Vic, but no response yet. Unfortunately most people these days take photos of photos to upload and the resulting image not always in focus. I still have an old Desktop PC with scanner (D11" x H7" x W17") connected. No doubt when I go it will go with me.

Unable to add photos to existing Gallery Albums
As it appears the system was reloaded today I had another go at creating an album and using the 'choose files.......' option within stage 1 of the Create New Album sequence. Failed as before. Following that fail I did go on to create a new album and uploaded the file at stages 2 to 3 without problems.

Sch. near Bells Place - Hollymount Hall - 1896
I have been creating an Album, on this site, for each of the schools in the Bedlington area. Whilst looking at an 1896 map of Bedlington around the area of Hollymout Hall & Bell's Place I noticed there was a 'Sch.' identified. I have not found any further info, on the www, about this school. I have not checked the historical records held at the Woodhorn Museum. The label 'Sch.' does not appear on the 1920 map but the label 'Misn. Rm.' appears to have taken it's place.

Locke, William Ferguson
Maggie, question posted on Bygone Bedlington by a Michael Eastlake :- Hello I have seen many of the contributors to this group mention the LockeHall which was down front street East. Sadly disappeared before my time. Was wondering if it was in memorial of this gentleman William Ferguson Locke who's grave is in Bedlington (old) cemetery. From the size of the headstone and eloquence of the inscription, plus the fact it was paid by public prescription he was clearly well thought of. A schools attendance officer but anything else known about this gent. Do you know the answer?

The Fourteen Club - 1958
The response I got from one member on the Bedlington Remembered site when I posted the photo with 'UPPER REMOVE........' on was :- 'This was not upper remove as there are 4 different years on the photo! 1 Yvonne Brown, 2 Ann Oakley, 3 George Brewis 9 Christine Sutcliffe 11 George Mitcheson 12 ????Patterson (head girl 1959) 17 Linda Matthews' When I asked about the 'REMOVE' system the reply I got was :- 'Alan,I have already explained the system on other sites that you are involved with, I am not going to do it again.' So that was me told. When Allana came back with the year 1958 the reply from the member was :'and your mother was spot on, the penny has finally dropped. It was navy blue with the letters in gold. I still have that badge and hated it. Me and your mother were in the same class from infants at Nethertons, Nedderton junior, Guide Post (what a hell hole that was! I hated the place) then Westridge then we left school, never saw her again after that as I moved a foreign place called Newbiggin. Your mam lived up Clifton Row and I lived in Plessey Street. Sheesh, that is 55 years ago!' So from the above replies you will note that the informant is Allo Allo's Michelle Dubois!

Westridge - End of term class photos
Me thinks the recent photos, Westridge & Vilage school should be in topics on their own. The Bedlington Village School 1950s photo is now in the Gallery under the Album - 'Historic Bedlington - Bedlington Village School' and comments can be made there. I will add the latest Westridge photo + extracts from the latest comments into the Gallery Album under the - 'Historic Bedlington - Westridge School - End of Term class photos' as soon as I can and it might make identification etc. easier.

1950 Class 2
HPW & Vic(Doreen) - one name that is not mentioned is Thomas (Tucker) Holmes. His daughter, Christine Holmes, has been attempting to find an old school photo of him and she did post on this site asking about him. HPW replied saying that he and Tommy had gone to the same schools throughout their school life. Is Tommy in this photo?

Westridge - End of term class photos
HPW - George Mitcheson is a member of the Bedlington Remebered Facebook group and he has added some names to the latest photo. He did say that the photo was not Upper Remove as there are pupils from 4 different years on the photo. I replied to him saying I had no idea how the Westridge Remove system worked but had no further reply. Perhaps the answer is close to us - Bluebary or Canny Lass. I will do my best to get some more names for the Village School photo and I will (when the system allows me) add the photo, with names, into the Gallery - Historic Bedlington -Bedlington Village School album. I could pass the photo to Brian Redpath's niece but I have no idea if her uncle is still around. All the Westridge photos you have commented on, that have posted in various topics, plus a few from Facebook groups, have also been added to an album - Westridge School - End of term class photos. Update on the latest Westridge photo is - Allana that posted the photo is the daughter of No 9 Christine Sutcliffe. She says her mam has more photos so I asked her to post them :-

Westridge - End of term class photos
HPW - would you like me to try and find out, from Bedlington Facebook sites Bygone Bedlington & Bedlington remembered, any more names or do you want this photo to stay on this site only? Otherwise HPW might be identified! Would you like the photo uploaded (when Admin sort out my current upload fault) into the 'Bedlington Village School' album on this site? If yes then with or without names added to the photo and No 1 labelled as H.P.W. ?
