Black Friday - Christmas - Presents - Goodwill to all, whats all that about? Chromebooks - I have a 9 year old Desktop PC, with massive screen and keyboard, running Windows Vista that allows me to access all I need so I must be saving there. But if I don't buy anything for this festive period have I saved more than everyone else? Or have I already bought everything I need, in the January sales, years before BF was introduced, and have therefore saved even more. As I appear to have everything I require to content myself on a daily basis should I therefore distribute all that I have saved to those that don't have the things they require to to fulfill their daily needs? If we all distribute our savings to those that need it today will we be able to replenish our savings to ensure that in the future, when the recipients of generosity need to replace what they were given in the first instance, we have sufficient replenished resources to fulfill their future needs? Should we buy a load of xmas cards, where the retailers are giving 10% off every purchase to a worth while charity, or should should we stop buying xmas cards and stop posting them to people we could actually wish them well when we next see them, therefore saving us loads of money to pass on to those that need it, like the Royal Mail employees who will be out of work if we stop doing it? Should we just ignore the rest of the world and spend our money on BF for our family? Shower them with loads of gifts, on one day of the year, and keep industry churning out goods that those that can afford to buy to fulfill their day. When we tire of the goods we can pass them on to the charity shops so the less fortunate can buy old stuff at prices they can afford. OR rather than buy from the charity shops they could go out on BF and buy the goods new at charity shop prices. Sorted, and it hasn' t cost me a penny. Just a bit of my time to work through the meaning of BF. One fine day, in the middle of the night, two dead men got up to fight. Back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other. What we need is a great big melting pot Big enough to take the world and all it's got And keep it stirring for a hundred years or more And turn out coffee colored people by the score. Doobe Do Do, Doobe Doobe Do Do, what a glorious feeling I'ts Black Friday again, just singing and dancing, in the rain, Doobe Do Do, Doobe Doobe Do Do...................

Only ever seen comments, by Facebook members, that would suggest the Food office was used in the earl 50's whilst the food rationing was still in operation during 1953 -54. I can't recall been given Virol, just rose hip syrup and I think that was only after my sister was born in 1955. This is a comment by one of the members on Bedlington remembered :- Lawrence Pattison The Alma Inn was on Glebe Rd. it was about opposite Taits ice cream shop [now car parts ]. The Alma became the Food Office during WW2 I remember going there with my Mam to collect new ration books. Shows my age but I was young then. BBC ON THIS DAY. 4th July 1954: Housewives celebrate end of rationing. Fourteen years of food rationing in Britain ended at midnight when restrictions on the sale and purchase of meat and bacon were lifted. my father -in-law's last ration book :-

@Richard Allan - I can't remember where I found that small image of the Alma Inn. However long after I had completed my drinking establishments project, when I purchased the book - BEDLINGTONSHIRE (The Archive Photographs Series) by the local historian Evan Martin, I found a larger image, of the same photo in the book. The text associated with the photo is the only piece in the book on the Alma Inn and in this photo you can make out the words FOOD OFFICE but I think anyone would have struggled to identify that name if it hadn't been pointed out :-

Could be what we need to solve the housing crisis John - all those that want to stay in the EU and don't accept the democratic vote could move to the EU and apply to become 'european'!

Thanks @Richard Allan - I'm no historian, but I do help with a Facebook group site of Bedlington and there are often questions asked about the Glebe Road properties - this info will come in handy I'm not saying there is any new info that you might find but have you used the 'Search' facility on this site to find any postings on the Glebe Row & Road? When you say "..... I was interested to see a picture of the Alma Inn on your site........" does that mean you found the picture?

I did ask her to CL but she hasn't found the time to do it, yet perhaps after she has finished making a fresh batch of soup, for freezing, and the prepared and served lunch she might just have time before she washes up and settles down, before supper Looking forward to xmas, she might just get some time saving device that has a ginger snap alarm fitted!

I checked with the vets this morning and the dog has now been taken into care by the council Dog Warden so anyone looking for the dog, according to the vets receptionist, would have to contact Morpeth Town Hall. There is a number on-line but don't know if it is current :-Northumberland County Council - Dog Warden - 01670 627000.

Wor lass thinks +18c is cold - she keeps turning the heating up and over the recommend level, 21c, for OAPs !! Iv'e told her if she feels cold to stop lounging and dust vigorously to warm herself and the room up. It's getting late and I'm still waiting for me 10 o'clock with ginger snaps

HPW - the dog was found at Boumarsund by Lindsay Davison and she took the photo, posted it on Facebook and took the dog to Robson and Prescott Veterinary Surgeons - 38 Staithes Ln, Morpeth NE61 1TD - 01670 512275. just tried ringing them to see if it is still with them but could only get a message that they were extremely busy and I gave up. Checked on Facebook and the posting had been updated yesterday to say the dog was still with the vets

@HIGH PIT WILMA - long shot, have you seen this one on your dog walks ?

This year :- Parade starts 2:15pm for 2:30 service - info posted on the Bedlington Remembered Facebook group site by Heather Stoddard. I Googled - 'remembrance day parade Bedlington 2017' but no info relating to the service in Bedlington was returned. Images from previous years from Simon Williams & Maureen Graham :-
