  5. @Dorothy Glover :- I have never heard of Sawmill Road and Sawmill Road. I have searched this group, via the search facility at the top right of the page, but no entries for sawmill Road.

If you want to search for a phrase (two or more words) then put " around the words eg "Sawmill Road" otherwise  the system returns entries for every occurrence of every word in the phrase :) .

Any other info that might help locate the area of Bedlington?

@Canny lass - have you heard of Sawmill Road?

  6. Rough sketch, from Jim McMaster - Past Times History group, of the buildings at Hartford in the early 50's.

Map of the camp from Jim McMaster.jpg

Then and now showing the only building that is left. Don't know if this was the only stone building on the site.

  7. @Canny lass :-

I can still remember my Grandpa's last words before he kicked the bucket. He said, "Hey, how far do you think I can kick this bucket?"

What did Batman say to Robin before they got in the car?  Robin, get in the car.

What's red and smells like blue paint? Red paint.

What did the farmer say when he lost his tractor? Where's my tractor?

Ask me if I'm a tree. Are you a tree?  No.

    Knock, knock.

    Who's there?

    Steve.

    Steve who?

Steve proceeds to break down into tears because his Grandmother's Alzheimer's has advanced to the stage where she no longer remembers him.

  8. @Canny lass :-

The Pope and Donald Trump are on stage in front of a huge crowd.

The Pope leaned towards Trump and said, "Do you know that with one little wave of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, like that of your followers, but go deep into their hearts and for the rest of their lives whenever they speak of this day, they will rejoice!"

Trump replied, "I seriously doubt that. With one little wave of your hand? Show me!"

    So the Pope slapped him.

A man died one day and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him.

He asked, "What are all those clocks?"

St. Peter replied, "Those are lie clocks. Everyone on earth has a lie-clock. Every time you lie the hands on the clock will move."

"Oh," said the man as he pointed at one of them, "Whose clock is that?"

St. Peter replied, "That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie."

"That's incredible, " said the man.

St. Peter pointed to another clock, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe only told two lies in his entire life."

The man was impressed, and then asked, "Where's Donald Trump's clock?"

St. Peter said, "His clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."

Donald Trump is not a sexual abuser.

    He's an alternative romantic.

Donald Trump has announced that now he's President he's going to ban the sale of pre-shredded cheese.

He wants to make America grate again.

What does the Secret Service say when Donald Trump gets shot at? - Donald! Duck!

Why can't Trump be hanged for treason? - Fake noose.

Donald Trump walks into a bar ...    And lowers it.

I'm sick of people comparing Hitler to Trump.  - Hitler wrote his own book.

Bill Gates has agreed to pay for Donald Trump's wall. - On the condition he gets to install windows.

Anyway it would be good if any folks wanted to share their views on what works and does not work for terraced-house living,

I have very simplistic views. If the housing is affordable and people wan to live in their own house, with all their own facilities, then nothing wrong with terraced housing = good soundproof insulation. After that then I would say it's all down to the tenants - some will mix respect their neighbours and some will not. I doubt that will ever change whether it's terrace, semi or detached housing.

There was an old building that was took over and used as storage for Watson the painter and he had a large sign outside. I was told it used to be a windmill before that  hence the name Millfield. I’ve always wondered if there re any photos out there of the original mill.

My nana used to carry flour from the mill to the bakery across the road where Jonny Johnson’s building is now.  Was it Wright’s the bakers? Would be 1920s early 30s

@Jack be - don't know anything about Wright's the Bakers.

The Bedlington Mill (Corn) is identified on the maps produced in 1866 and 1898 and then the 1924 map states Bedlington Mill ( Disused).

The only photo that I have seen that shows part of the mill building(s) is one without a date from the bottom of the Bedlington Bank and you can see a chimney - top left.

  16. @Andy Millne - for all the entries in the Events calendar is there any chance of a reminder, for every event, being displayed in the 'Welcome to Bedlington' screen that's displayed when anyone first connects to the site? Thinking on the lines of a reminder say a few days in advance of the event and the event being displayed until the end of the.
