  1. I met Boris Karloff (see Gardners arms thread) I once held the Queen and Prince Philip up while taking cows across the road (A6 south of Carlisle) and spoke to Phil. He gave a police outrider a bolicking for giving me hassle to get the cows off the road. Ernie Wise's brother was our feed rep, (Gordon Wiseman). I was at a new years do at the Killoran Hotel in Wetherall and got into an argument about football with an old guy, I told him he was talking rubbish and he knew nowt, just as I said that, I realised who I was talking to, none other than Bob Stokoe. I litteraly bumped into John Paul Sigmussen (spelling?) at the Royal Show (He held the Worlds strongest man title at the time, and yes I did tell him to watch where he was going (and hurried off) When I was young I met Geoff Duke at the T.T. He was talking to my Dad.
  2. The free tea /coffee could just swing it for me
  3. It was a ball ache climbing the steps on the Nail
  4. Thank you. I took my time and chose them carefuly just so I could look good for the occasion.
  5. Don is gone now, I'm not sure if Jean is still alive though. Don was a founder member of the motor club with my dad. Don also worked with my dad as butchers together. Arthur Routledge took over the shop in the oval
  6. if you look directly above the bus stop sign and in line with the n/s bus mirror, thats me with the black Bernicia umbrella
  7. buy , bloody buy . The sally army was dishing coffee out for nowt
  8. Thats me outside the grapes with the umbrella up !!! I was watching you Malcolm, I thought that ambulance was coming for you. !!!!
  9. Too much effort required to tidy the place up, re grass cutting thread.
  10. Them herbal tabs still count as smoking Malcolm, mind you they're probably cheaper.
  11. I seem to remember that someone daarn saarf was threatened with prosecucution for doing just that Foxy. Apparently there had been no risk assesment done before they took it upon themselves to tidy the area outside their house up.
  12. I agree with your Mam Cyril, I've been to Norway as well. (funnily enough that was with the scouts on the first occasion, 14th Bedlington at the salvation army) Ivy Watson ran them. Our maintenance departments could certainly take a leaf out of their book.
  13. Adam, I have a farming background. Take it from me that the area mentioned is now beyond the help of normal grass cutting equipment ie gang mowers etc. My daughters other half is the tractor driver for the council who drives the largest tractor and is the only one allowed to operate the hedge / brush cutter - which is what is needed there now. The thing is, beach cleaning takes priority now it seems, so that tractor is tied up on that job. Catch 22. 2-3 man hours and a couple of sets of gang mowers every 3 weeks or so from the start of the growing season, thats all it would have taken, Pity the olympic torch was not going that way to Blyth, it would have been nice and pretty by now !!
  14. WAHEY !!!!! VODDYCEL POPS !!!
  15. Has the NCC's grass cutting equipment knacked up ?. There is a distinct lack of grass cutting taking place. The area from the Bank Top to the black bridge and beyond is an absolute disgrace, the grass and weeds must be yard high. This was an area not to long ago was kept nice, why the deterioration? The approaches to and from the Spine road are overgrown as well. Apart from being unsightly it is downright dangerous to let a junction such as this become overgrown and unkempt. Drivers are "playing chicken" because they cannot see what is coming. This is not the only place suffering neglect in Bedlington, but it seems to be the worst (as far as I can see). And!!!!! I hear they are selling a tractor or two and some equipment, eh!
  16. I most certainly am. Mind you there are times when I could do with one, but it passes. Them Champex tablets were a great help at the time, got to be better than doing turkey. 30th Oct 2010 was me last tab, put a shed load of weight on but it has to be better than continuously kippering ya lungs!!
  17. Free woods Bedlington side of the river and Ha'penny woods on the other side. There used to be a toll (ha'penny) near the furnace bridge to use the path . I think that side was at one time owned by the Blagdon Estate (Lord Ridley)
  18. Has the Market Place been done up like? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  19. I got there just in time one night before she closed, she served me with the petrol for my bike but refused to put the two stroke oil in 'cos she had already put the pump away.
  20. I agree, it's downright immoral. Fancy having to put up with a pittance like that. I would have stuck it out for double.!!!! This sort of thing is so vulgar that if we didn't make light of it we would crack up with bitterness
  21. Ah well. I wasn't too far away (apart from the date that is)
  22. I saw them fitting them earlier in the week, I had a quick go on one on Friday, it knacked me out. As you say they are brilliant as long s they dont get wrecked
  23. I'm finding this one quite hard, is it looking along the lines towards Bedlington Stn as taken from Barrington (ish) sometime in the 60's ?
  24. I replied to it, just waiting for me dosh now, suckeeeeeerrrrs !!! (all I had to do was give her my bank account number and my credit card details) just sitting back and waiting for it to come to me.
