Hub German Pork Butcher, Bedlington 1901-11
Canny lass replied to Richard Norton's topic in Friends and Family
Hi @BMog Sorry, I don't know what happened above. It just wouldn't let me write or delete anything! Mary's marriage was registered in Durham registration district which includes the city of Durham. This doesn't necessarily mean that she lived - or was married - in the parish of Durham. The Durham registration district had, in 1904 when she married, at least 37 different parishes. Couples usually married in the bride's parish so what you need is a copy of the marriage certificate which you can obtain from the GRO. Many certificates are now digitalized and can be bought as a pdf file - much cheaper than the paper copies. The certificate will give you the address of both Mary and Henry as well the parish in which they married. That will give yo more information to work while trying to find his employer - or place of business if he was self employed. If the latter is correct then you can try the directories and gazettes. Hope this helps. Good luck with your research. -

Hi there and thank you anyway 😊I know there were Mogerley's in Lancashire. I just wondered who my granddad came over to work for from Germany. -

@BMog - don't recall any of the Bedlington members mentioning links to Mogerley family. I searched this site for the name 'Mogerley' but it has never been mentioned before -

Hi there, on the topic of German pork butchers, I wondered if there was a Mogerley shop in Durham or near Durham. My grandfather, Heinrich Mogerley was working on a pork butchers when my grandmother, Mary Pratt, came in to buy meat. He went on to marry her and they moved to Ireland and opened their own business. I'm assuming he worked for a family member over there. If anyone has any information I'd be very grateful. Thank you 🙂 Barbara -

"So does Bedlington get a share? if so how much?" £110M is to be set up as a economic regeneration fund. Still asking questions about it.............like will Bedlingtonshire get the Lion's share seeing as its our asset being developed? Been told projects are being worked on which will use this funding but when I asked specifics they were less forthcoming. As far as I'm concerned and I've said this to them......... @worst possible usage in terms of job creations........£10B for around 200 jobs............but if the payback is this £110M then lets see if we can get the 5000 jobs BritishVolt promised out of that! Now I see the Government saying this £150B of new tec and data centre funding just announced will produce 7000 jobs??????? I only believe half of what I see these days and nothing of what I hear!

Hi I would like to thank Muriel Gordon and Billy Straughan for making the effort of attending the Red Lion on Sunday 14th September the weather was really bad raining cats and dogs, we were joined by Bill Marley a great orator and Terry Dobson old friends of mine along with my best friend from Ipswich Diane. Also Russell Hogg and his mates were an example of Bedlington hospitality as they remembered me by my nick name which I am not going to divulge as I have grown out of that now been a senior citizen. Alan Edgar can you assist me I am trying to contact Muriel Gordon on Facebook but there is a lot of Muriel Gordons in the world if you gave Muriel my Facebook contact for friend it's Malcolm Allan thanks Alan.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/us-uk-pact-will-boost-advances-in-drug-discovery-create-tens-of-thousands-of-jobs-and-transform-lives "BlackRock is investing £500 million into enterprise data centres across the country, which includes an initial investment of over £100 million in a data centre expansion west of London. The broader programme will enhance UK digital infrastructure." ... "James Seppala, Chairman of Blackstone Europe, said: We are delighted that the government has designated our hyperscale data centre campus in Northumberland as an AI Growth Zone. This should help accelerate the development of one of Europe’s largest data centre facilities, with £10 billion of projected investment by Blackstone funds. We hope that the project will represent a transformational investment for the region, with the potential to deliver substantial benefits to the country and local communities, by driving innovation, creating high-skilled jobs, and solidifying the UK’s position as a global AI leader." I refer the honourable members to the statement I made earlier.

There are millions now regretting voting Trump in, he’s a totally incompetent lying idiot, I don’t know who pulls his stings but they are the ones making the promised changes, and they not all bad but.. many are illegal and even against their constitution, when he goes off script and goes on a totally irrelevant lying rant making ridicules claims we see him as the real lying idiot that he is. I live in Alberta, there is a big movement about leaving Canada and going alone, the western Provinces Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia are also talking about it too. The west has the resources and the East has the population. Quebec and Ontario bleed the west and the west is getting tired of it! I’d rather fix Canada than split it! Quebec is the problem. Carney was elected because of the Trump situation, he made many promises, none have been kept yet, although I did like his approach to making Canada more independent from USA. When we have our national elections the outcome has been decided before Alberta vote, six time zones.

He will do what all politicos do and try to capitalise on things which mostly would have happened anyway, because the money was right. When you say he can't be trusted I think there are an awful lot of people who'd disagree with you. That's because he's one of the few leaders in modern times that has actually done what he claimed he was going to do. They'd say that a lot of the trading relationships with the US were fundamentally unbalanced. That very many countries had been parasitic on the US economy for a very long time, and that it was ordinary US workers who'd paid the price. Brexit started to unwind some of the unbalanced trading relationship that the UK had, and that was a product of ordinary working people seeing some of the reality of what the political classes had been up to. Unfortunately we still allow ourselves to be guilt tripped by the Irish Republic, and prop up their economy, despite their repeated efforts to undermine ours. I'm not sure what province you are in, but I've been hearing rumblings that there's a fundamental split in Canada starting with Alberta then all points West. If I was living there I'd be seriously considering joining one of the separatist movements advocating a more harmonious relationship with the USA. Ditching (that UK economic reject) Carney's socialist globalism has to be the way forward for ordinary Canadians. What on earth were you lot thinking electing him of all people? He has FAIL written on his forehead!

Arch enemy #1 "the evil orange man" is no friend of ours, he certainly can't be trusted and I hope the project isn't relying on him! Our similar projects are on hold partly because of the instability he is causing, Canada is diversifying our economy because of his hostility and radical changes .
-
Hi Vic! I suspect we are going to hear something from your good friend "the evil orange man" quite soon. Maybe one of those Gordon Brown things of announcing the very same money multiple times, on the assumption that the average voter has a very short memory. 😀 https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/blackrock-invest-700-million-uk-data-centres-during-trump-visit-sky-news-reports-2025-09-13/
