  1. I'm certainly no astronomer but do enjoy the night sky, especially watching the ISS going over. Here in the mountains there is very little if any light pollution, my daughter has a computer connected telescope! (but they live in a city and drive out to use it) my son showed me his phone "AP†showing the heavens live even in the daylight! all GPS generated! I remember in the early 60's watching Telstar when "Arthur†could link up with it from Goonhilly Downs! Just Googled for tonite and the other one should be Capella!
  2. Jupiter it is! Can not see it from here (snowing)
  3. It's like looking out our window! been snowing he re for weeks
  4. My wife remembers the name, it came up in earlier discussions somewhere on this forum, Wilf ran the Humford baths and another worked for the council, the grandfather lived in or near "The Old Hallâ€
  5. Yes I fondly remember the "Sir Fon†I never was a sea farer! but do remember the paddle tug boats, the "Cowpen†dredger and the many passenger liners, aircraft carriers, submarines on their way to Bolkowâ€s. The only boats I travelled on were the two ferries, the chain ferry (on my way to work as apprentice at the power station) and the low ferry we used to go and pick wilik's. Oh! and the Polish and Dutch fishing boats, used to buy "tabs" from them!
  6. I must agree Brian as I said once before under a different topic! discipline and respect! I believe having respect would get rid of a lot of the need for discipline. (I also believe that being too "PC†is destroying the the life we used to value!)
  7. Even with the help to the clues I wasn't getting warm!
  8. I recognise Travolta but who are the rest?
  9. Congratulations Keith and Adam, good luck in the new employment!

  12. Thanks Keith! Been going there for years , the 'gators are quite armless it's them bloody Aussie crocs that give me trouble, doing the crocodile roll! (Wor lass introduced me to the sport, she enters me every year! said it was more manly than growing leeks!)

  14. Band on the Run......
  15. Three photographs I bought at Wm. Ward's shop on our last visit to Bedlington, about 12 years ago (2000) We were married in St Cuthbert's 50 years 8 days ago!
  16. I think your right Canny lass, 2CV
  17. Looking forward to it!
  18. Inconsiderate drivers come from everywhere! what logic suggests drivers driving in a certain area (like Blyth) are any different in other locations! (like Bedlington) When you were driving in Blyth were you not just one of the cars that " don't seem to have indicators on them I must say that I believe drivers generally are getting less and less courteous and and considerate, driver distractions like phones, radios, GPS or just todays pace! may be the answer or is it lack of respect!
  19. Done in a controlled manner, nothing wrong at all! as I said earlier considering health, safety and the environment, I live in a mining town!
  20. Look in Bedlington Community→Town & Around→History Hollow in this site, look for "1844 Bedlington History"
  21. Welcome to the forum Beck, I would think it would be St Cuthbert's church, but I'm sure you will hear more knowledgeable responses tomorrow!
  22. Related but a bit off topic! What is the effect of using renewable energy, if any? the absorbing or slowing down the wind to turn windmills, absorbing wave energy, absorbing heat from solar panels, thermal pumps etc, All of these things must have some affect on weather trends, patterns etc even if only very minutely. "The butterfly effectâ€. Energy cannot naturally be created or destroyed! (or so I'm told!) Which of the renewable energy's has the least undesirable side effects, making solar panels is supposed to be quite a dirty process! other processes use things like fibre glass, Kevlar, silicon etc, much of which I'm sure is mined!
