  1. Sad to see the passing of Sir Patrick Moore, I fondly remember his first broadcasts in the 50's, he explained things so well, I wish I had retained some of it!

  3. We used to ask the butcher (George Shy's (sp)) in Blyth market square to make sure there was some of the brown bits in the beef lard! he made great pork sarnies!
  4. Certainly can, pork dripping, it was better than a slice of dip in the bacon grease! or fried bread!

  7. I'm certainly no astronomer but do enjoy the night sky, especially watching the ISS going over. Here in the mountains there is very little if any light pollution, my daughter has a computer connected telescope! (but they live in a city and drive out to use it) my son showed me his phone "AP†showing the heavens live even in the daylight! all GPS generated! I remember in the early 60's watching Telstar when "Arthur†could link up with it from Goonhilly Downs! Just Googled for tonite and the other one should be Capella!

  10. My wife remembers the name, it came up in earlier discussions somewhere on this forum, Wilf ran the Humford baths and another worked for the council, the grandfather lived in or near "The Old Hallâ€

Yes I fondly remember the "Sir Fon†I never was a sea farer! but do remember the paddle tug boats, the "Cowpen†dredger and the many passenger liners, aircraft carriers, submarines on their way to Bolkowâ€s. The only boats I travelled on were the two ferries, the chain ferry (on my way to work as apprentice at the power station) and the low ferry we used to go and pick wilik's. Oh! and the Polish and Dutch fishing boats, used to buy "tabs" from them!
  12. I must agree Brian as I said once before under a different topic! discipline and respect! I believe having respect would get rid of a lot of the need for discipline. (I also believe that being too "PC†is destroying the the life we used to value!)

  18. Thanks Keith! Been going there for years , the 'gators are quite armless it's them bloody Aussie crocs that give me trouble, doing the crocodile roll! (Wor lass introduced me to the sport, she enters me every year! said it was more manly than growing leeks!)
