  1. We could always take over Spoons for a night Brian........

Don't see why Bed.co.uk members shouldn't have a get together every Xmas? Anyone up for it?

You'll need to get there early Malcolm to grab one of the seats around the perimeter, me being the young lad I'll have the lap dancing table.

  2. Malcolm, I can see the cauldron and the looks of greed on the cooncilla's faces as they hatch plans to grab money off us to help pay for A-Shi-ton leisure centre! They'll be asking themselves, What obstacles can we put in Bedlington's way to stop them? How much money they would get away with for doing nothing? Planning permission! Now that's going to take a serious lot of 'Pocket' filling. I can see flash cars and caribbean holidays a-plenty coming out of this and all this to be told 'Naa! Ye cannit hev it any way' :dribble: :dribble:

    Merlin,

you'll need to watch your back talking like that,If I were you I'd have the Phone Line checked regularly!!!

  3. Sorry probably the wrong place to post but does anyone have a contact no for sebastians???? Tried looking everywhere and cant find one.

    thanks

This must be the most badly advertised eatery ever, my wife frequents the place most Thursdays with her mates but can't remember if she got their number from Whitehall or The Kremlin. Allegedly the pub has bit the dust already, It's like a secret society, as iv'e said in previous posts,it seems as though they don't want anyone in there. Must add she says the food is excellent.

  4. Well some contradictory stories are coming out about the Lion! Mr Darn says they are polite and pass the time of day, while others have a less than complimentary appraisal of the staff! More than one person has told me of the 'could not be bothered' attitude of the staff in the Lion! When calling time it's 'How, wa closin, drink up an' get oot' One friend who challenged this with 'Hold on, I am a paying customer' was met with a belligerent glare and a sarcastic 'Time please! Is that better for you' Well NO it wasn't to be honest. Needless to say he hasn't been back! And more than a few people have told me that they have left without being served because of the attitude of the staff!

Compare the number of customers in the Lion to the numbers in the other watering holes, that should tell us a lot. The pubs in Bedlington were all struggling for custom before the Lion reopened, and now we have a pub where we can get a drink and a bit natter where you don't need to wear a gas mask to avoid the smell of the bogs, and all at decent prices. Lets hope the Lion keeps going because the other traders in the town(shops and everything else) are struggling,I've heard that the badly advertised pub that has recently been reopened at the other end of town has now closed, and another shop in that area is closing soon.I think the Lion has brought trade into the town that wasn't there before so lets keep it, maybe people are flocking in to see that grey haired fella on his laptop!

  5. II'll not have a thing said against Conservation Areas ... they keep the scum-sucking Tory property developers under a degree of control from knocking all the period houses down and felling all the beautiful trees.

    It hasn't worked in Bedlington

  6. Because of the original post the state of the Church grounds has been brought to the attention of the relevant authorities! Remedial action has been promised.

This may well precipitate a call for volunteers to take part in a clean-up of many areas within Bedlington.

    Anyone interested?

It would be nice if we could get the owners of the Church School and Elliots Garage interested!

  7. But is it the end? ...... err just one more thing sir

Wonder if that overcoat of his ends up on That online auction site that is in no way as good as Free Bedlington.co.uk Classifieds?

  8. There seems to be some kind of disease around that area.It started in the nearby School and is obviously very infectious as it spread to a local Garage and now it looks like there is a possibility the Community Centre is coming down with the illness. I'm not sure what the disease is called but suppose we could call it "Incompetent Council" until it is more clearly identified. Maybe things could look a lot brighter after the recession if the Government introduces a Slum Clearance programme.

  9. Fabio Cappelo has decided to call on Robert Green to keep goal for England in the Euro 2012 qualifier on 4th June. Not only has Green asked not to be considered, his gaffes for both club and country have been well reported. He is also part of a relegated team, so he must take his share of the blame for West Ham's relegation.

Many Neutral football fans [as well as NUFC supporters] agree that Steve Harper is , without doubt, the best English keeper never to be capped for his country. That is mainly due to the excellent form that Shay Given enjoyed during his tenure between the pegs at NUFC. Surely the Toon's #1 keeper deserves the chance to prove his worth to his country before it is too late for him to do so. You never know, he might just show the current England manager and his predecessors what they have missed out on. Come on Fabio, give the lad a chance [ along with Barton and Nolan] to prove he still has what it takes, after all, England has all but quallified for the 2012 finals, what is there to lose.

Keith,I agree with everything you say about Harper and Green but do you not think Harper may lack a bit of ambition? He had been sitting on the subs bench for months on end while Given was enjoying excellent form. If I had Harpers skill I wouldn't be second string to anyone and would have moved on. I think we could see Given doing just that before the new season begins, even though he is being paid megabucks.

  10. Council changed their mind, its now the end of april so tomorrow is the last chance to see the foundations being laid.I think they probably put it off until they got the Royal Wedding out of the way.

Looks like the end of May could be the next ficticious target so how about if Roger Waters built his wall around this site, perhaps it could become a tourist attraction.

  11. Saw Roger Waters performing The Wall at the o2 arena in London last sunday night,it was amazing. The first time I saw him It was at the City Hall in Newcastle 1968, he's still going after all these years, wonder how many of todays "stars" go as long as that.

  12. The Lib Dems would always have lost some votes by going into any coalition, depending on whether the voters preferred them to work with Labour or the Conservatives. The cuts and tax rises necessary to reduce the deficit were never going to be vote winners either. But it's the image the party now has of broken promises that has been most damaging. The increase of tuition fees was a complete reversal of promises before the election. Looking at individual council wards in Newcastle, the ones with big student populations changed from Lib Dem to Labour. I expect this will have been repeated in Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham, Sheffield and other university cities.

The results in Scotland show that there are a lot of people who want to vote for someone other than Labour or the Conservatives though, this has come as a nasty surprise to Labour who expected all the disaffected Lib Dems to go their way. Perhaps this election has been a big missed opportunity for UKIP in England?

Malcolm, I'm a supporter of electoral reform but I can't see anything in those results that suggest that people want reform of some kind just not AV. It was a crushing defeat in almost every constituency and council area, and on a higher turnout than expected.

There are no easy answers, it is still a dangerous time for a country to be in debt as Iceland, Latvia, Greece, Ireland and Portugal can all testify (and even the USA is now being threatened with a downgrade of their credit rating). Ed Balls' way of borrowing and spending more and more money assuming that it will lead to growth is the policy that helped get us into this mess in the first place. You're right that we need new ideas for targeted investment in growth based on something real, not a government pyramid scheme.

Stephen, thanks for the explanation on why so many votes have been lost but surely it is a bit long winded and could have been edited down to fewer words: LYING, TWO, FACED, SPINELESS.

  13. Stuff the elections, the real news of the day is that , as of 16th May 2011, I will be rejoining the ranks of the employed. D.V.L.A. just need to get their fingers out and send me my new digital tachogragh card pronto.

Well done Keith and good luck in the job.

  14. Foxy,

Easiest way is to open up the original youtube video on their site, copy the web address at the top of the page, it should have the dedicated video address, and paste it into an e-mail.

You won't get the player but whoever you send it to will get a hyperlink.

Cheers for that Malcolm just wondering,if your not too busy tomorrow could you pop down and cut my lawn?

  15. If you have no success finding any photographs, just have a look at Elliots Garage in the conservation area of our town, that should give a good idea of what it was like. You will need to be quick though Council Planning reckon the foundations for the new building will be in by the end of the week.!!!!!!

Council changed their mind, its now the end of april so tomorrow is the last chance to see the foundations being laid.I think they probably put it off until they got the Royal Wedding out of the way.
