Tommy Adamson owned the shop, I always called in there on me way home. His brother was Jimmy Adamson Manager of Burnley about 1964 ? When we played football for the school Tommy always asked how we got on "Brilliant Bloke"
As we got older and started to go across the road to the Wharton there was Derek ???????????? who was goal keeper with Sheffield Wednesday anyone know his surname please he would take us Sunday mornings training on the beach at Blyth another "Brilliant Bloke"
Goodfellow was his surname, always parked his top of the range Ford Zephyr opposite the pub next to the old top club.

I see we've got some lovely new Solar Panels in the same Conservation Area where people are being told they cannot install plastic windows etc in their properties. In another post today, one of our members mentions opening up the old mine workings, Sorry Malc the owners of Elliots Garage and the Church School have beat you to it.

Yes Foxy, Craiges was the railway (Railway Tavern) not sure how long he occupied the pub but it was always known as Craiges. It was a Vauxes Pub
I was often in the place during the 60s when it was known as the "Disc" It was one of the first Discotheque's in the area and was always packed out (lots of fights caused in them days due to pushing and shoving). It was a vaux pub then as well but I always drank bottles of Double Maxim, because the draught beer tasted like Boiled privet hedge !

Was Craiges the railway?

Thanks for that Pete, funny you should mention Alvin Stardust but I saw him 3 years ago when I went to an open air concert at Lincoln Castle. The headline act was Roy Wood who I went to see and I didn't know Stardust was going to be there. He was actually better than Roy Wood as he was singing blues/rock.My mistake was when I got back to work and told my mates who I had seen, they were all serenading me wearing one glove (his trademark) they still take the "P" three years on.

Is that the Station club ?
It is the station club and thats Jack Chapmans car who was the club chairman in the foreground, Iv'e spoken to a senior citizen from the station tonight and he confirms that the shop in the photo was a fish shop managed by Don Pattie (not sure of the spelling) Wales fish shop also had seats and the lads coming out of the pit used to go here for supper, so it looks like everybody's right. We've had two fish shops in the station with seats, if only we could fill them now!

Think I'll pop in here at the weekend, somebody's sure to know.

I see you are still using the TARDIS Foxy. Going by the clothes those kids are wearing, what seems to be a MK11 Cortina estate and a Morris 1000, that colour pic was taken in the 70's. Matty Robinsons hardware shop is also still there. I can remember the electrical repair shop, the guy used to fix hoovers, washers and spin dryers etc. (no tumble dryers then) . Certainly during the early '70's, Barclays bank was there (part time) as was the dole office (prior to bridge house at the top end). For the life of me I cannot remember a fish and chip shop between Walter Wilsons and Barrons the chemist. I know just the man to ask and I will try and ask him over the weekend.
Keith,
I took the photo's myself and have the date as 1980 on the coloured one

Looks like she's right again Keith, the chippy was between the chemist and Walters and she reckons it was later used as a small electrical appliance shop (in the photo) She's got the lip on cos I've started calling her Jeeves!
