  1. I think we need 3gee to help us here, It looks like that works wagon parked outside is being used to clear out Millne House and there is a co op vehicle (3 wheeler Scooter) parked outside. I think the co op took over that building after Mr Millne. C'mon 3gee help us.???? I'm guessing at 1970.

  2. The second picture is definitely post 1960 as that's a later Ford Anglia in the foreground - possibly a '64/65 model - and in the background is either a Mini van or traveller, both early 60's models. Interesting pictures.

    The parking has'nt changed!

  3. I have a photo of this store which I'll post in a couple of weeks when I get home.At the moment I'm sweating my nuts of in South Africa.

I must be getting old, thought I had a full on view of the store but cannot find it, anyway this snack bar should jog some memories KEITH ? This photo was taken in 1970. Not sure when the second pic was taken.

  4. Symptoms, Keith and then Malcolm ... all suffering memory loss - too much time spent here perhaps.

Yep, it was Jimmy Millne (I suppose the Eddie Milne name was just lodged in front of the mushy bit of my brain). I'm glad I correctly remembered that it was his former home; we used to raid his orchard at the rear gaining access via a lane (or it might have been an archway) maybe where that Co-op funeral place is ... Dowson's Buildings or was that on Hartford Rd? Fond memories of his department store in the Market Place where just about anything could be bought: leather soles & heals, taps for boots, catapult elastic, stink bombs, and of course the Record Dept where you could listen to the singles before purchase (I think he had headphones or maybe it was a couple of booths) ... I still have a few of these records.

  5. Went to La Torre ( above The Millfield) last night, thinking it would be very quiet after the festive season.

I am delighted to say I was wrong, we got the last table . Having visited and recommended this restaurant many times before, I am delighted to see our local people supporting them. It's a great restaurant to have in our locality. Oh, and if you havn't been and you like prawns - try the Tempura King Prawns - they are to die for !!!!

Tried them last night, your right they are good very nice restaurant as well. We've now got three good restaurants in Bedlington so no need to travel, lets spend our money in our own town and stuff the rest of them.

  6. Foxy,

Don't you have one of the old Top Club (Ex Serv) that ended up in the middle of the roundabout at the Top End and which the Green Goddesses attended?

You must be suffering memory loss Malcolm probably due to your age, thats the ex servicemens club in the first picture next to Robinsons the Printers.

  7. You're right Symptoms it was Eddie Milnes house.

    Your both wrong,

Eddie Milne was the MP that wasn't quite whiter than white,In fact he was a load of crap just like todays MP. The house that you refer to was owned by Jimmy Milne a very respectable business man in the town, in fact he could be remembered as Mr Bedlington.Must get the facts right lads!!

  8. Yep ... that's the Post Office I remember. Are folks in Bedders still driving Mk2 Capris & Ladas (or Polanski Fiats) and renting their tellies from Rediffusion. Good to see the girlies being able to their latest stuff from Phillip Green's TopShop.

Thats not near the Market Place maybe your inbuilt sat nav system needs updating.

  9. Adam mentioned Phil the Greek, half of that well known comedy double act. The half that started out as 'Uncle' Dickie's cabin-boy (yep, you know what I mean) during that big bunfight 70 years ago, the half that partied with Astor, Profumo, Christine & Mandy (and smudged without a head), the half that has been continuing to insult just about everybody up to the present time, the Daddy of that collection of scrounging, useless brats, the Grandaddy of balding Billy just sent down to the South Atlantic (of course Ginger Harry ain't blood related to Phil some would say).

Why don't you say what you think instead of beating around the Bush?

  10. The photograph was taken at the opening of the quoits bay at the Welfare Park, Bedlington. Throwing the quoit is Councillor Dickie Hindhaugh. Jim Carley (left) next to him is Henry Brown (my wifes grandad)and on the right is John Temple (my wifes uncle)

Anyone put a name to the others ?

    George Cowell second from right

  11. There were 3 camps, known would you guess as No1, No2 and No3 camp, each camp was made up of about 50/60 houses they streched from where the Park Information centre is now following the road all the way toward netherton about 150 /200 houses there was a garage and other amenities. There was a regular bus to and from Bedlington for shops and school for me.

The best thing about the camps it was a great place to live and a happy community, unfortunatly these were pulled down in 1957 and people were scattered around bedlington.

This photo was taken in 1949 Maybe some of your relatives on here?

  12. Andy Fairweather Low perhaps for one point?

Derek Weaver perhaps for 2 points?

Oh, and there was a mini riot outside 'cos all the girls wanted in.

    Yep, Noble rings a bell.

Didn't Think i was that popular
