  8. Pathetic ………. Even if they ripped it off the police site there is only one reason for getting it so wrong, sloppy journalism.
  9. Good to have you back Merlin. I can understand your frustration reading your other post about business rent and rates. Did you know business rates are to take a 5.5% hike in April? So the breathing space they have been given this year is about to come back and hit everyone in the face. Rents have been going upwards too, what a way to stimulate new business activity! On top of that the domestic rates look to be under renewed pressure as the county try to balance its budget. Seems they will take the Government shilling this year again but really that can only make rises that much greater in future! Swerving service delivery onto the Parish councils, who will then have to charge us extra for them, while retaining that part of the county rate which we paid for these services means we will be hit with double taxation for the same service delivery! So rising costs and a squeeze on disposable incomes at the same time, this is going to end very badly especially in towns like Bedlington which seems to be already clinging to viability. To add further insult to injury County are now looking to impose a hierarchical structure onto the towns in the county and Bedlington is to be relegated into 'B' class status so it will no longer be a Market Town it will be a 'district centre'. It would seem someone agrees with your Ghost Town status! As for the much promised redevelopment by Tesco have a look at this..
  10. IF MY BODY WAS A CAR.. If my body was a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull ... But that's not the worst of it. My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close My traction is not as graceful as it once was.. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently. But here's the worst of it -- Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!

  17. Funnily enough Foxy just been talking about those solar panels…………..as they are pointing east and lower than the next door roofline wonder how efficient they are? Think I read somewhere solar panels can be fitted without planning consent now? Course you are right to point out the discrepancies inherent within the conservation area maybe we should call it a conversation area.

  19. Bedlington and the IMF............ As I have warned several times the oft repeated quotes from our panjandrum political leaders saying the UK will not be bailing out the Euro now resembles a tissue of mendacity! Not only have we already seen around £12 billion go into propping up Eurozone countries we now have the very real prospect of throwing almost £26 billion into an IMF fund which is directly bailing out the Eurozone. This would make the UK contribution second only to Germany and of equal size to France, and this from a country French officials have just been telling everyone is bust! This figure represents an amount greater than the self-imposed austerity cuts in the UK and we really do have to wonder what planet that makes sense on? The real problem I have is this will inevitably become a fund which once endorsed and filled will probably become so rapacious because of what it is trying to fulfil we could very well end up throwing more and more money into it so as not to accept losses. As it is the job losses we have already seen in the UK can now easily be ascribed to saving a foreign currency! For some reason the very institutions at the centre of the whole problem are being given 'get out of jail free cards' as their debts are socialised yet we still see huge bonuses being paid for what in reality are very nefarious financial activities. It's a pity the mantra of 'too big to fail' wasn't ascribed to our mining, steel, and shipbuilding industries, to name a few, we might still have been a producer country instead of one reliant on 'white van man' running up and down the country delivering goods made overseas! I am going to invest in that 1970's high fashion accessory, a nuclear bunker, and maybe Bedlington shouldn't be pushing for a sports/leisure centre but rather open up the old pit workings to provide a warren of safety as we contemplate our financial Troglodytic future.
  20. THE DEAD COW LECTURE First-year students at the Purdue Vet School were attending their first anatomy class with a real dead cow. They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, "In Veterinary medicine it is necessary to have two important qualities as a doctor. The first is that you not be disgusted by anything involving the animal's body." For an example, the professor pulled back the sheet, stuck a finger in the butt of the cow, withdrew it, and stuck a finger in his mouth. "Go ahead and do the same thing," he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually took turns sticking a finger in the butt of the dead cow and sucking on it. When everyone finished, the Professor looked a them and said, "The second most important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now learn to pay attention. Life's tough but it's even tougher if you're stupid.."
