  1. Mr Sparrow, father of John Sparrow, Facebook Bedlington remembered group) thinks No 7 is Wendy Fox.
  2. I prefer pubs but I suppose @lesmes gets his Topic back Has anybody noticed? By lesmes, February 23 in Chat Central
  3. @moe19 - reply from Eddie was :- 'Jim and Betty had a house in Wooler next to the Tankerville arms. The also had a property in Palma Majorca where they spent most times. They had a retirement party at the Pub which we all attended. Then a young lad from Crammy surname Davy. Eric's son who was a mate of mine took over the Pub for a short time. Then he left and it was boarded up. Before it went up in flames in the early hours. I watched it from my window in Hastings Tce. Aye suspicious to say the least. This is at the retirement party .with my impression of Betty with Barmaid Pauline. ps - I suppose we should now get back to Easter Eggs
  4. Eddie Hindhaugh posted the photo, middle right, as the night before the pub closed for good but he does not give the date. He does say the pub 'accidently' caught fire and burnt down in 1992. I've added a couple more, from Eddie, to the composition. The bottom left photo shows that poster you posted @moe19 and it had three names (Sugar, Ernie & Danny) with it but there are 4 in the photo so don't know which three are named. The bottom right shows another room, I think, of the pub.
  5. and the crap hanging from the ceiling :-
  6. @Symptoms - posted on the siixtownshps Facebook group
  7. One of the regulars at The Albion (The Folly) was Eddie Hindhaugh and he often comments on the Sixtownships Facebook group and I remembered he had posted some photos of inside the pub. So I asked him if he could remember the name of the goat and you were right to be thinking Billy or Benny - Eddie replied with :- Billy and Benny . There was 2 Goats. And 2 German Shepherds. Joe Joe was one . The other lived outside. As a guard Dog. + there was always a load of crap hanging from the ceiling. This is a compilation of the photos from the Albion that Eddie has posted and I have added the names of who he said they were :-
  8. From the album: Local Football 2

Photo from John Fox and names from Paul Reed.
  9. The comment should read ' Top Club team - 1954' not Top Club Team late 1950'
  10. From the album: Local Football 2

  12. From the album: Local Football 2

Photo of the Top Club team, 1950's, from Janice Mathews - her dad and uncles = Metcalf in this team
  13. No 13 = Robert (Bob) Turnbull - named by Tom Shepherd off Facebook
  14. With pleasure - and naturally any football team updates, or messages from old friends, will be past on....... I think
  15. The two things to look out for when searching for Shankhouse - 1) The Albion Pub and 2) Hastings Terrace. The Albion pub, demolished years ago and houses built, was between Hastings Terrace, Shankhouse and the Cramlington Fire Station. Both Hastings Terrace and the Fire Station building (no longer used by the fire brigade ) still exist. If you came out of The Hastings pub, turned right went past the Fire Station along the road about half a mile and turned right at the small row of houses = Bog Houses and pass them about quarter of a mile to the Horton Road. Cross the Horton Road and you are at The Three Horse Shores.
  16. Jen Lowe says No 12 = Jeff Davison, her brother.
  17. Info found in the Morpeth Herald by two Facebook Bedlington Remembered members :- Margaret Williamson :- Found this from the Morpeth Herald 1909 - ... BEDLINGTON ROYAL OAK A.F.C. The above club held a supper and social at their headquarters, Red Lion Inn, on Saturday night last. The chair was taken by Mr. Robert Thompson. A good repast was ably served by the host, Mr. J. Turnbull), after which the evening ... Ovalteeny :- As part of my research into football in Bedlington I have quickly looked at The Morpeth Herald for 11th. April 1908 and found a league table for The Wansbeck League, see image that shows Bedlington Royal Oak having an narrow lead, but with still 5 games to play. I'll have a further look tomorrow to see what the final table was and also read up some of the copy to see if I can find out more about the team/club.
  18. Anyone ever heard of and know anything about this team. As Royal Oaks is a fairly common name for a pub I checked both Evan Martin's list of Hotels, Inns, Taverns & Beerhouses in 1886 and the Bennett's Business Directory, of 1905, and no establishment using the name Royal Oak in the lists.
  19. 1954-55 squad photo - update from Pauline Weatheritt (Facebook Bedlington Remembered) who showed the photo to No 2 Albert Glenton and he says :- No 8 Dickie Jameson - No 12 Alan Cowell - No 13 Paddy Gore
  20. The National Trust have put the word Easter back into their 'Egg Hunt' ( placement around words or phrases used in a special sense or purposefully misused) - so it's now "..... Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt 2018."
  21. Two team photos of the squads for 1954-55 & 1956-57 posted on Facebook and we are attempting to name the squad members. HPW's first thoughts were that these squads cover two, or three, age groups. I will attempt to upload both photos and have the relevant Facebook comments associated with each photo :- Carl Wilkinson 11. My Fatha. Allan Wilkinson - 5. Tommy logan Paul Wilkinson 11 is Allan Wilkinson Allan Kidd 1 looks like Raymond Mack. ManageWendy Ready Number 10 - my dad, Joe Hale - No 4 Davy Kane Lillian Wilkinson After Ray Mac it is Scantiberry (John ?),?,?, Davy Kane,Tom Logan. ..?Mr Davison, - Joe Hale next to Allan W, ?Bob Cross. Carl Wilkinson 10. Allan wilkinson - 14. Jimmy Bradley ? 2. Albat Glenton Lillian Wilkinson No 1 Brian Palmer - no 3 Brian Hale, No 4?,?, 6 Geoff Oliver, - No7 Bob Johnson, no11 Ian Nesbit, no 14 Mickey Bradley. Alan Maguire no14 michael bradley Wendy Ready No 7 Deffo Johnstone ! Friend of the family x
  22. This could be fun HPW - I will see what I can find out using discretion, tact and diplomacy! On Facebook Carl Wilkinson posted the two team photos in one post. To try and avoid confusion when people started naming the team members (cos they don't normally tell you which photo they are commenting on) I split the photos added the numbers and created separate postings. On the 1954-55 team photo where I attempted to avoid confusion, by posting it on it's own, a member, Wendy Ready commented :- Wendy Ready No 3 my uncle and my dad Joe hale is number10 on the other pic x - so that's why I named No 10 as Joe Hale on this 1956-57 team photo. So rather than having to switch between the two photos in this album I will create a posting in the History Hollow section, with both photos, and when we have the names sorted I will update the Gallery images.
