Iv got two border collies,Ben and Sam, really intellegent, Ben rarely barks, Sam makes up for him. If ever Ben needs out during the night Sam barks for him, il come down stairs Ben will be at the door and Sam still on his bed.

I was talking to someone recently about the ironworks at the bank top, he was telling me he lives at Melrose Avenue, and that the estate is built on the slag heap from the ironworks, Lived in Bedlington all my life this is the first time iv heard this, does anyone know if its true.

Well the badger cull has started, I know its also sad when farmers have there cows put down because of TB, but wat is it with this country, we have the most amazing wild life, but our farmers are determined to wipe most of it out. If the farmers had there own way there would be no foxes, no rabbits, no badgers, no insects, and no birds of prey. .

Maggie my mam is 91 and refers to that part of her body as Lisk, similar, and she is a Dudley girl.

Does anyone remember the hay wagon catching fire. A spark from a train landed on a wagon piled high with hay bales, by the time the gates opened the fire had a good hold. I remember standing watching the fire, the lorry had stopped just infront of the library, next to the island in the road.

Please dont tell me they are going to demolish the school, i had a feeling they were just waiting for it to fall down itself, or some idiot burn it down, do they never learn. its part of the character of Bedlington.

This morning I found a small hedgehog jist outside my garden gate, poor thing was covered in horrible ticks, and thought it strange it wandering around in daylight. I then spent the next 2 hours on the net and ringing round trying to get advice i ended up talking to someone in surrey, during this time my husband carefully removed about 40 nasties. Early this afternoon a lady rang and told me about the Northumbrian Hegehog Rescue Trust at Longframlington, I rang and spoke to a lovely lady called Carol who runs the trust from her garage, she gave us good advice then later this afternoon went to see her. She reckoned our little hedgehog was about six weeks old, she gave her antibiotics (Its a girl Daisy) and said she would look after her. Sadly shes been inundated with baby hedgehogs lately, no one knows why but a lot of mothers are dieing. There were 30 million hedgehogs in the 1950s and now they reckon an estimate of half a million. We can all help just by making our gardens hedgehog friendly by providing water (not milk), make sure ponds have an escape route, use organic slug pellets, provide shelter e.g. upturned box with food and water inside and a 13cm hole in the side. Dog or cat food is ideal but without fish. Carols thin ks Daisy may have brothers and sisters, so if anyone sees a strange woman wandering round with a torch its probably me.

Hi John where to start, yes thats a photo of my great grandparents who were caretakers at burnside school. The photo of the three people standing in the doorway are my greatgreatgrandmother Mary latty the child is my grandmother Eleanor Ester (Nelly) Latty she married James Purdy, his brother is George Purdy who you wrote about. They had two boys my uncle Jim who was traumatized by the german plane coming down in the brickworks, and my dad William Latty Purdy (Bill). Iv been doing my family tree, the Lattys came from Mitford. Id love to see your photographs sometime, sorry to here your not well, hope you get better soon. Thanks John

No you didnt miss out, I would have loved to have gone anywhere, my dad lost his sight, so couldnt drive, and we didnt have money for going on holiday, but i still have holiday memories, jam sandwitches in the hut, picnics down the woods, long walks, especially the walk to cambois beach and buying sweets from the shop just under the bridge overlooking the beach, and a special treat was going to blyth beach, i can still remember wiating at blyth bus station with my bucket and spade waiting for the bus along to the beach happy days

Why did they demolish these buildings? can u imagine what they would look like now done up like other buildings in Bedlington, it makes me really sad, weve lost such a lot.

I grew up in Bedlington Station, and moved to the top end in 1981, but i cant remember this building or where it was, could be too many birthdays or the heat. Love your photographs foxy
