This could turn into quite the debate Joe! I think a lot of people will have an opinion on this, and as you state, it is a digression, so i'll move this to the discussion forum so Pete's original problem is not clouded. Please aim any replies to Joe's question HERE
  3. surely couldn't have been as long as 30 years ago (i'm 31 and i still have memories of being on the roof, so couldn't have been much younger than 5-6) but i cant remember it actually being used. i'm pleased i wasn't imagining it lol
  4. so, is there a 'bedlington.co.uk' recommended removal guide to be had from all this? or are we gonna leave it out there for a while, see what comes up?

  6. i've never cleaned the registry on my XP desktop and after 4 years, its still running fine... thats with the help of these programs: Avast antivirus CCleaner Malwarebytes Anti Malware Spybot search and destroy. other than those, and regular disk checks and defrags, its been fine without touching the registry...

the only mention i can find anywhere about a hotfix for your product is the windows media player hotfix (KB929399) Windows Knowledge Base although it does not mention your product in that article, that is what all other references i have found point too. Do you know if this particular update is installed on your machine? it may be an optional one rather than critical

could you please confirm which version of windows media player you are running? to do this, open the player, click the 'help' link near the top and then chose 'about windows media player' the version number should be listed. Thanks

from the pic i think we can safely rule out windows updates! its not that. it seems the program wants another physical program to be installed before the drivers. did the device come with only one disk? if so, it the disk autorunning when you put it in the drive? if so, i assume there is no option to install this 'hotfix' first, so it gives us another avenue to explore. i'll do some rooting about and get back to you tomorrow. if anyone else has advice, feel free to contribute

as an afterthought... did you try to install the drivers before plugging in the device? or plug the device in first? if the second option, try completly uninstalling the device from 'add remove programs, and from device manager, then try the driver disk again without plugging in the device, until prompted. if you need anything explained, please just ask

What is the full message your receiving? (screenshot?) whats your operating system? xp? vista? (assuming its windows based: ) does the 'add new hardware' wizard not appear if you plug in the device, then restart your computer? i'm thinking it may have to do with a missing windows update, as they are known as hotfix's, but its strange for a piece of hardware to request it... i'll also have a check around for solutions from friends. till then, you could have a look in 'device manager' with the hardware plugged in, and see if there are any warning triangles in there that may help us out... whilst there, try the 'update driver' link too. Could you point me in the direction of the support website your using too plz?
  12. After just quickly reviewing it myself, i wouldn't edit the registry unless your comfortable with it, and i never recommend registry cleaners.
  13. not a problem i have had to deal with personally, but i have seen others directed HERE before, which apparently worked for others. maybe theres something there you missed?
  14. hey all, i'm looking for a charger for a compaq presario f500 series, and i'm wondering if anyone knows a cheap place to get one. i've looked on That online auction site that is in no way as good as Free Bedlington.co.uk Classifieds, and delivered they want about £20 (unless i order from hong kong, is that advisable?) anyone know of any other places you can get cheap laptop parts?
  15. thats got to be gutting
  16. it is! and with the winds over the last few days, i bet they are easy pickings!
  17. £3.60 with my discount... and thats an unbreakable one!
  18. i know what you mean...i been on the sick for 6 months now with a cracked flask...
  19. no, i doubt it. the lad i knew once upon a time was origionally from bedlington.
  20. we used to be able to hang from our legs, no arms, from them, and release our legs and twisting in such a way we landed on our feet. it looked well impressive! also there was the red ring swing, where you'd get as high as you could and jump off, trying to reach the monkey bars without touching the floor. i only ever seen anyone do it once! lol the only other thing i remember was hangman... you had to hang from the middle bar, and one by one people would hang off you till you fell...the winner, obviously, was the one who had the most people hanging when they finally let go. i think my record was 3! lol
  21. its not a vivid memory, but yeah, i remember the building, and i remember being stuck up there on that roof as a wee'un. Or perhaps i remember someone else being stuck, and the memory has morphed into me being up there, i dont know. i do remember a lad called barry jones, on a sledge, on the roof, into a pile of leaves tho... That was some funny stuff! lol
  22. But, on the huge grand scale of things, if my intention was as you say, and the only stumbling block was a 'hello', then i'd say hello and do it anyways! just like you have to become a member to view the forum, this one extra thing isn't gonna stop anyone who's set to do what you think they will... however, we have most areas covered by moderators now, so a 5 post 'moderator approval' bond might not be a bad plan... and may be a better way to check out the person and stop the viagra sales before they hit the board (with us imposing permanant mod approval on the account at the first viagra related offence) . You can do that with this forum software right? I think this could be a good debate! what exactly do you think these 'non posters' are intending to do? and how does saying hello change that fact? I'm not trying to be awkward, just wanna see it from your point of view...
  23. the big square climbing frame has gone now too. i liked that climbing frame!
  24. any memories of what it was used for? or why it was knocked down?
  25. Hear Hear! Whats the harm in some members just having a read of whats going on to keep up? If they aind doing any harm.... can you imagine if sites like Wiki said you had to contribute to use the service? Plus...some peoples opinions are best kept to themselves! and more power to them for keeping quiet
