Blyth Shipyard
I enjoyed reading that Eggy. It is a pretty apt story especially as the guest speaker at E.B.P.C.'s annual assembly was Martin Lawlor, C.E.O. of the Port of Blyth who was giving a talk about what is going on in and around the port.

Recent Events In Woolwich.
When did I suggest that we should ban Asian owned corner shops ? I actually suggested that other stores (supermarkets / high st. and corner shops) stock and sell alcohol and tobacco products. I also pointed out that not all corner shop or Asian shop owners are Muslim. Now as far as I can remember, in another thread a couple of years ago, I made the point that the Asian shop owners have made a success of their businesses by shear hard work. Mr. Singh will get up at 5am for the papers and keep that shop open for our convenience till 10pm. When Mr. Smith had that shop it would be closed at 5pm. There's no doubting that there are good Muslims and bad Muslims, good Christians and bad Christians, good Jews and bad Jews.. so on and so on. It just so happens that it is the bad Muslims that are causing harm to the people of this country, who's to say that it wont happen to someone we know next ?. As always happens, the few spoil it for the many.

Wonkys Spring Adventure And The Stena Plus Lounge
I've never had an upgrade and to be honest, as wonky says, what's the point anyway. There was one former employer of mine, (no names but most of you will know them ) Found out that we drivers were getting our breakfast on the boat and it was included in the ticket price, he then tried to buy tickets without a breakfast included. When he found out that he couldn't as all "freight" tickets included a meal, he then tried to deduct the price of a breakfast from our night out money (overnight allowance). Then when drivers refused to do the job, he subbed the work out to another haulier. This was on the Stranraer to Larne route. He wasn't, and still isn't a bad man to work for, but the fella is that tight , he only breathes in.

Whitley Memorial First School's War Memorial
I think we should ambush them when they arrive in Bedlington John. Tie them to the school gates and torture them till the truth comes out then charge them rent and compensation for depriving us of part of our history. It could be they are on a guilt trip to return it to put right the wrong doings of their relatives. . Its good of them to go out of their way to bring it back !!

Whitley Memorial First School's War Memorial
Where's that (apart from the church that is ) If I remember rightly it was in the school hall. Matty Hall would be just the man to ask, sure he would verify it as well, that's if he is up to it of course.

Hexham Fire
I think that they have got their act together as far as pollution is concerned. Didn't they get the blame for Salmon being found dead or dying at Wylam a few years ago ? Fish were fighting to get out of the water that day. I know, driving around the back, you could see big improvements were made to drainage and run off from the yard etc. To be honest, I can't see the place lasting much longer if fire precautions don't improve, lets face it, the place is a tinder box. Thousands of tonnes of timber , boards and sawdust are in that place at any one time.

You know, I'm sure I can remember that memorial.

Hexham Fire
I used to hate going into that place to load board, especially on a Friday afternoon. Typical for it to go on fire on the busiest day of the year for the A69, County Show day. There was talk that the last time there was a fire there, that it was going to be closed down, thing is, its Hexham's single biggest employer. Also a lot of people employed in the haulage industry rely on work from Egger.

Somebody should be able to put a few names to that pic. If that was taken just after the war, those two bairns would be about 70 (ish)

Station Library School
I read something on t'internet about it last year while looking for something else, can I hell find it now. It was good reading as well.

Station Library School
Yup, that's me third row on the far left. Pity you didn't come up with this for the Station First schools centenary last year. Mrs Mulholland may still be interested if you were to show it to her. I do know that the original school , now the library, was a one room school and teachers house, it was added too as the amount of pupils attending grew. If you look at the building you can see where parts of it were added to .Separate head teachers accommodation was built to give more room to the school till eventually they had to build another, the current station first school. If you remember, it was still referred to as the "Council School" when we were kids.

Puddler's Raa[Row]
Believe it or not I was just talking about that row of houses today !! . South Row it is Foxy !. Is it a miss? I don't think so, its always nice to look back with fondness, but the place does look better the way it is. I can fully understand where Adam is coming from regarding the demise of the pits and the loss of jobs etc. but Bedlington is much, much, cleaner and a healthier place to live without them. I think we all owe something to those who worked in our pits, the majority of us had close relatives employed in the pits, Adam, HPW, Barton Raffie and John Dawson are here to remind us of the significant contribution that the pits made to the town and the debt we owe to those who kept us fed and watered with the money earned by shear hard graft. The decision to demolish the pit rows was the right one, they have been replaced by clean modern homes, Our skyline is not dominated by the great mountain of a pit heap anymore (I showed one the kids the photo on here and she asked where the mountain was) although we had many a great day playing on it, getting a thick lug for going home with half the heap still sticking to us was another thing though. Washing can be put out on the lines and still be clean when it is brought back in !!. We should never ignore the past, nor forget what those before us have done, but we also should appreciate what we have and look ahead to what we can achieve. Someone once said " Nostalgia is not what it used to be " .... Give me a clean bright Bedlington any day.
