  1. RIGHT !!!! ITSEEZY !!! Mat Munro was abducted from a bus in leeds (working as a conductor) by aliens who happened to be David Bowie's Spyders from Mars. They had their wicked way with him and dumped him on a Island in a Stream (Kenny & Dolly) on the North Yorks Moors where he still wanders for eternity with Heathcliffe ( Kate Bush) ..... There you go. !!!! Give me my prize IMMEDIATELY !!!
  2. It's your tinnitus playing up again, mebe?
  3. You 'd better better hurry up then 'cos I'm doing your nails.
  4. If you read between the lines in an article in this weeks NPL. you will realise why the workmen are at Keith L's house. He has nicked the entire electrickery supply for the street lights to Terrier Close and re-directed it to his house thus blacking out the rest of the street leaving his neighbours in the dark and too scared to venture out after lighting up time. Apparrently this is in preparation for a Christmas light display at his house that will be seen from the mir space station. All at the expense of NCC.
  5. Thats what I meant, they went to Africa to get their barnets clipped
  6. They are not just fined , Canny Lass, There is quite a number of parents who have been jailed for not ensuring their kids were at school. The truant officer, (school board man or the hookey man as we would call him ) takes on a different role these days, no more lurking in the half light of doorways to grab a handfull of kids by the collars and marching them to school to re-start their day with 6 of the best. Now its phonecall, e-mail , letter, summons, fine, then if you still dont get them to school, Jail. Being at work and thinking little Johny is at school is no excuse. You are to ensure your child is at school or give a very good reason why not.
  7. AFRICA !!!!!!
  8. I know that Bedlington Community High School issues attendance figures for each pupil regularly, at least every half term. My daughter came home the other day with a recognition for 100% attendance and they have only been back for a few weeks. So it does show that they are monitoring attendance closely. If a pupil fails to turn up for school, or if a parent has not rang in with a reason why, an automated phone call is made by the school to the parent for them to contact the school. This is usually done arround 9:30 (ish). I have another daughter ( Briony) who is a junior stylist at Euphoria hairdressers (opposite the Northumberland on Vulcan place) and her attendance and attitude at work is 100%. She spent her last year at school itching to leave and find a job. It has not been all plain sailing for her, but she looks forward going to work more than she ever did going to school. The point that I am trying to make is, staying at school and gaining extra qualifactions does not benefit everyone. Some people like Briony, benefit more by getting into the work place earlier to start their training for their chosen carreers.
  9. Soon ? you mean AGAIN !!! He just comes out to get the jacket that makes him hug himself dry cleaned
  10. This antipidean wench is the business I can tell ya. She's just finished in the kitchen, brought me some beer and now she has started mucking the car out. AS FOR HER BEDROOM PERFORMANCES !!!!! , she stripped the lot of and got stuck in (its ages since those sheets were washed)
  11. No good ringing Kylie, she's with me . I arranged to meet her after the bingo in the Station Club last night . One night with me and she's smitten, she's going to Sierra Hire to see if she can get a half day hire van so that she can move her stuff in. (She's been dossing at a mates in Scotland Gate for a week or two)
  12. Huh, they've all had me beaten
  13. Boys from the Black Stuff
  14. AS it has been said " Nostalgia is not what it used to be ".
  15. Have they all played Shakesperian Kings ( Richard 111, Henry 11 etc,) ?
  16. Malcolm's our very own Superman, Merc, how the hell he has not been arrested, pestering folk on the front st on a Fri / Sat night dressed like that is beyond me. Never mind Malcolm I agree, think you must be right......... Keith, hand him a prize befitting a super hero
  17. Aye Brian, someone told me that they have moved to East View.
  18. Just what we saying last year, if you remember. The litter on a weekend is terrible sometimes and the local rat population is well fed
  19. If there is one way to get a freebie at the bar, that is it Merc !! The closure (and demolition in the Terriers case) should not be allowed. Many of these pubs are part of the towns history, peoples memories, were couples met. I know pouring money into a failing business does nobody any good, but it is the tenants that are doing all of the pouring ( pun intended) The breweries are doing nothing to help them. They want to see the money coming in and they dont seem to care where it comes from, the tenants rent or to the highest bidder who will take a well flogged horse off their hands. In the case of the Percy Arms, Harry has had that place on the market for a considerable time now, who can blame him for selling to the chip shop owners if they were waving a bag of cash in front of him. That man drank in the Percy for years and years before he bought it, he would have liked nothing better than to sell to someone who would carry on running it as a pub, he propably would have continued drinking there. The people who drank in those now closed pubs dont necessarily move on to frequent other pubs, many just dont bother going out anymore, they will stay in with a few cans in front of the telly. So one pubs demise does not mean another pubs gain , it is just a warning of what will come. Sad but true
  20. YEP !! A proper martyr I was
  21. Wether the Percy was anyones favorite or not Keith, the fact is that long established boozers are closing at an alarming rate, never to serve another pint. Re the George and Dragon ( the Queens bar) Can anyone remember the Pihrrana fish behind the bar ? They had to put a lid on the tank to stop people chucking bits of pie in.
  22. School Transport ? Whats that ? I would have to walk 6 miles to school with holes in my wellies, wearing no socks. I would be wearing a sleeveless jumper (and I mean sleeveless, a jumper with the sleeves taken off, not a tank top). I had no coat on ( didn't have one) , only wearing school shorts. I would be walking over ploughed fields most of the way , head down pushing my way into the wind , rain and snow. ( it was only good weather at weekends in those days). My lunch box, containing a stale jam sandwich, was one that I found in the pit yard. I wasn't allowed to eat with the other kids 'cos I was infested with head lice. The journey back was often worse because I would have to carry one of the younger kids back home, the long days at school would have worn him out. This was the summer time, Winter was another matter, dark mornings and afternoons meant it all took a bit longer. But, when I got home, there was real bread, with rrrrrrreal butter, ( for everyone else, never me )
