  1. I was talking with Ian Lavery last Saturday (7th). He came to Burnside on what he calls a " street surgery". A leaflet was put through doors a couple of days before and if anyone wanted to talk to him they placed it in their window where it could be seen and he would stop for a chat. He spent a bit of time with me and he seemed to take on board what I had to say ( which is usually drivel ha ha ). What was noticeable was the lack of leaflets in the windows of those people who spend their time bemoaning the actions of our Parish Councillors, our County Councillors (who were all there as well ) and our MP. It seems that they are prepared to slag them off to other people and complain that they do nothing for us, yet they don't seem to want to vent their spleens in front of the people that matter , ie. Parish and County Councillor and the MP.

  2. I can remember Graham Coatsworth going on about Bedlington Young Farmers Club. I think he may of hosted a ploughing match or two. Graham was actually a Yorkshireman who farmed Sleekburn cottage farm on the Barrington road. (now Keith Muters stables and livery yard ). Bedlington Young Farmers Club was not around when I was old enough to join, I was in the school YFC and later Tritlington YFC.

  3. Beautiful song, she surely was a true Northumbrian.

    'Tender Hearted'

It would have been good to know her, I am sure some of her ancestors are still around.

There was a Darling family in Bedlington when I was a kid, I cant remember much about them except for a daughter Audrey who was often seen out and about . She had mental health issues (as far as I remember) and she would wander about with her head tilted to one side. I don't know if there is any of the Darling family left in Bedlington now.
  4. Keith m8 try this link for a super song on Grace. This group "Sawdustjacks is superb. We have been given permission to use their historic heritage songs for future publications.

Have a look everyone and enjoy

good line, "In these days of false idols and rats in a race"
  5. so my idea is out the window then.!!!! I've been plaiting and knotting bits of string together for weeks to make a zip rope between trees and over the river down the woods. I was just about to persuade members of WBTC and EBPC to dress up as pixies and live down there for a while to act as guides and helpers to the hoards of kids who will be abandoned down there while their parents are living it up in the Clayton.

  6. yeah, I passed them on the way to work the other week Keith, but I have seen them a couple of times now.

They are parked on the path and fully off the road to take their dogs down the woods (a leisurely exercise which could prevent this obesity endemic that is going around), there is ample space for cars to park.

The fact that the wardens have to spend their time going out there to ticket then get back elsewhere is a complete waste of time in my opinion.

    Easy pickings Brett.
  7. Everything that you could possibly need - and more- right here in Bedlington Stn, ,,,,,,,,, but where are the take aways ? I think I can spot a potential money maker there, would anyone like a take away food shop? ..... Good reading a few memories stirred up there especially Jennings, Can anyone remember Jennings market garden behind the Bank Top, where the playing field is now ? Some of us still refer to it as Jennings field

  8. Why were NCC looking into extending parking charges into the SE of the County?

    Not hard to see why..............

Coming home from work yesterday afternoon I saw the traffic warden ticketing cars parked on the path at Plessey woods. Seems to be easy pickings for them. After all it is a really busy street and illegally parked cars really cause an obstruction to property, pedestrians, cyclists and they impede the flow of traffic.
