  1. Seems a bit odd that a chain as cash rich as Witherspoons would buy a place, board it up and leave it indefinately! Surely they would want it gutted, re-furbed and turned around so it can start earning it's keep!?

I wonder if they have other plans for it?

I really hope it does open, I think it will bring people to the town centre and they will inevitably wonder on to other pubs. Don't see how it can be a bad thing... Goodness knows we can't leave the place looking like it does today what with it's nice silver shutters up!

might be another project like the terrier old peoples home! i cant see wetherspoons actually opening anytime soon or in the future with alcohol laws about to change and the proposed police charges! (plus bedlington is a !*!@# hole!)

  2. Too silly! The boot loader isn't really part of the o/s at all; it's just a way of getting to it; been and gone in a few seconds.

You can use any boot loader you want with any Linux - even Microsoft's lousy effort if you can figure the limited poxy documentation. If grub fails you either haven't got your hard drive partitioned properly; haven't told Grub about where the bootable partitions are properly; or you have bad hardware.

Grub is very flexible because to accommodate lots of o/s' and lots of different hardware and file systems it needs to be. This really isn't a problem to the average user because they get a simple menu, and a few seconds is all they ever see of it. But if you start playing on with partitioning and multiple o/s', and don't know what you are doing - well - you'd better find someone who does! :D

    WTH is ninja?

There's no comparison between Linux and Windows XP on this machine, and I alternate between them regularly on the same hardware. At the moment if I boot XP it gobbles all available (1.25GB) of very expensive micro-SIMM RAM, takes an age to boot (and I've removed loads of crap and optimised the boot sequence), and IE goes away for ages and often becomes totaly unresponsive on heavy JavaScript pages. Running Linux - as I am at the moment - it is showing 370MB (30%) of that 1.25GB in use, with lots of stuff loaded, four active desktops, and listening to BBC iPlayer as I type. Also Firefox is really responsive and a pleasure to use. This is a 1GH/z ultra low voltage Pentium CPU that's now over six years old!

no you cant windows bootloader refuses to acknowledge linux or any other os other than m$ ! plus its a faf mucking on with boot loaders and grub is the standard one with linux!

oh and ninja is a security program for linux stops you being hacked by geeky linux users! but in my case it just stopped me installing or uninstalling!

three cheers for m$! and the programmer of remove wat!

  4. I have been going to Upper Cuts for about 3 years now, it's about time they had a mention. Great hairdressers and a friendly service, we're worth it!

where exaclty is uppercuts? is it run by an exboxer? what's the price list? is it unisex? when is it open?

just for those who don't know! ;)

  5. And the relevance to heating and powering homes in the UK is what, exactly?

    did you actually read it?

to answer your question the fact that a solar powered plane can fly at night is testament to the progression of solar technology! :warning:

or read the topic title it says something about solar panels does it not?

  6. I would suggest the FA sack themselves! Were they players? Did they ever play football? Were they football managers? They know FA about football so they need kicking out and get some ex players/managers in who know what they are on about!

If they disassociated themselves from FIFA then FIFA would ban us from World cup/Euro tournaments, not a bad thing as it happens, we would not then have our hopes dashed every two years

You know what made my world cup? That smug smile wiped off Platini's frog face :D

Back to the FA I think player sponsorship/advertising was to blame for team selection not Capello. I think he was told who had to play so that more money went into the FA from players' sponsors, because, lets face it, every man and his dog knows that Gerrard and Lampard cannot play in the same team! Also I think the players that went were not the ones that Capello wanted to take! But that's my opinion

And for what it's worth I think Germany(spit)will win the World Cup :(

germany will win as they've played as a team unlike most of the others such a england, france, brazil etc were star status ruled over everything else!

  7. still don't mean its going to open! they could just as quickly sell it next week! :|

if it does open the other pubs will quickly shut down! great

Cheep beer = more p!ss heeds!

more p!ss heeds = More fights, spew puddles and pizza boxes

  8. this is great this is! mercury g's vision of the future "build loads of nuclear plants and bury the waste and run cars for ever on an ever diwindling oil supply which gets harder and harder to get at (i.e. the b.p disaster!) and just scrap any green technology that could aid man kind because its not efficent enough!" please dont run for energy or tranport minister or where doomed! :dribble:

ps please don't come back with "oh i didn't say that!" :P

  9. ...we should just give up?

When we start taking the really big things - like Eurovision - seriously again, we'll be able to kick a bit of leather in the right direction once again! ;)

why? ok they gave a poor performance but they still have a shot! beat slovenia and there through :D
