Hi, I'm Jen,

I found this site through my brother, I live in Lincolnshire now, but grew up in Bedlington Station. I was born in 1950, and went to Barrington school, then Station Modern. I never knew it was called 'Woody' was that after it burnt down? I lived at Roslin Park number 9, then Fontburn Rd. My Dad worked at the 'aadd pit' then Netherton. I would go to the Station through Bolam, and catch the bus to Blyth or Ashington, by going up the cut, to the miners cottages. We used to play on our 'bogies' down the cut, as it was a slight hill, we didnt have any brakes like, so there was plenty of crashes. Look forward to sharing my memories with you all.

Welcome to the site, Jen, hope you enjoy it. I was born at Bolam Place then moved to Terrier Close. I went to the Woody School and it was always called that as far as i recall, even before the fire. We had to be shipped off to Princess Louise road at Blyth after that. There is a WOODY SCHOOL site on this forum with many school photos. You might like to have a look.

Hi Jen, and welcome to the site. I've attached a school photo from Barrington 1959. If you're not in it you might recognise someone.

Welcome to the site Jen ...... Jenifer Dobson by any chance? if you are we go back a long way.

Hello Jen welcome to the site, I was on holiday in Lincolnshire last year had a lovely time.

welcome Jen nice to hear from you

Hello Jen & welcome. The photo Reedy has displayed is shown in the Gallery under Barrington County Primary School and that photo labelled 'Mrs Gormans class 1959' has all the pupils, including you, named.

I am sure the school was nicknamed The Woody school as it was built of wood and the grammar school was brick built. Naturally nothing to do with The Wooden Tops.

As you say the cut lead to the Miners Cottages then it must be the one in Waverley Avenue that went up to the back lane of Pioneer Terrace on the right and the Miners Cottages on the left. Brave lass, these days that cut would have a 'Z' bend road sign in the middle of it and a STOP sign at the bottom before you flew across to Roslin Park!

Google street view now shows the bottom half of what used to be the cut as a road to a rest home - Brambling Lea - but the top half through to Pioneer Terrace still there.

Have a look through the Forums and Gallery and see what memories it brings back.
