  1. Happy birthday Mercury,I hope your having a great special day.
  2. Well Foxy sometimes you can be so close to the situation you don't see the bigger picture, it can take standing back a bit to grasp the whole situation and see things in a different perspective. (which is easy for us to say when not so affected!) Lots of good people with lots of ideas.
  3. A bedroom community, isn't that what we dream for! let the others have all that industry brings. One of the first things we learned when we came here was if you want it, go get it! don't expect others to get it for you. We have been involved with many projects, and achieved a lot of satisfaction knowing we have contributed to the community. Many of the larger projects have required lobbying, news media and plebiscites (even demonstrations!) We also found that nothings stays the same for very long! things are always changing, what was a hotel became a movie theater, then a bowling ally and downstairs is now a dance studio, with a furniture shop at ground level (was a restaurant) also the local newspaper has its office there, upstairs are various offices, I'm sure that will eventually change again, across the road the bank is now a restaurant. One of the things we found was if you involve the youth in problem areas they don't usually vandalise their own projects, instil some pride! Well said Canny Lass.
  4. Isn't the Red Lion pub now a restraunt ?
  5. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/fracking-likely-linked-to-4-4-magnitude-quake-in-fox-creek-1.2938900 Not far from here, a different scenario but......

  10. Happy birthday Canny Lass, I hope your having a great day.
  11. Thank you foxy, I like the Shackleton, I almost flew in one at R.A.F. St Mawgan (cadets) but chose to do aerobatics in a Chipmonk! The Shackleton,s sound was very distinctive Griffon engine and counter rotating props. Great pictures and memories.
  12. Happy birthday Alison and GGG, hope it was a good day!
  13. Ah! it's back,
  14. I think they are meant for Brian
  15. Is it off line or is it me?
  16. Thanks for posting those photos Maggie. The last photo looks like a Waco UPF-7, an early thirties American bi-plane, (used extensively a training aircraft, just a bit before my time!) I hope to take a ride in one next summer! There is a museum giving rides in a Stearman and a Waco! That looks like a close call in the playground in the second photo!
  17. Wishing all my forum friends and their families a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.
  18. Happy birthday Eileen and Keith.
  19. I watched the lights being switched on! we saw lots of people going to the Market Place, (even tried to follow it on the radio) we don't see a lot of the decorations but what we see are very nice, the people responsible should be very proud! I watch the camera lots, see all the illegal parking while dashing into the shops! see the punters popping out the pub for a fag! (one often accompanied by a little dog on a leash!) see the early morning shop deliveries, I'm really surprised how much traffic there is! I used Google Earth to identify the shops that are so popular! 5.30am Malcom, thats just 1/2 hour before our evening news then off to bed! The down side is I can't receive the camera on my Toshiba but only on my iPad, which recently logs me out every time I leave! (its a royal pain logging in every time) Well done camera and well done Christmas lights!
  20. Happy birthday Keith hope you have a great day.
  21. tomtom, I think it would be 1958 59 ish! I expect it is no longer there! which would be a pity.
  22. Carving a balsa wood DH Vampire was my first (8 years old) then came Airfix, KeilKraft and glow plug engines, JetX engines, control line and gliders (couldn't afford radio control) Ashington ATC 1110 sq. Then came the real thing the R.A.F. (15 year old) Symptoms The Model Shop was at the bottom of Bowes St (later I lived at the top of Bowes St) and Biggles books were my favourites! "I'm bored†is a new word that came out with electronics!
  23. I can only find the small windows bellow the cockpit right hand side on the Harrow, I still think the nose appears Harrow but can't explain missing wheel spats!
  24. Foxy, I think Adam may have it, Bristol Bombay 1939-1944 but I'm still looking, It may be a Handley Page 54 Harrow, 1937-1945, the nose is "more" correct but the wheel spats are not correct! the small windows are correct, I'm leaning towards the Harrow!
  25. Tonyp, Symptoms, There is a lot of merit for both systems but not everyone in lucky to have good health all their working life (I have been quite lucky!) not all poor health is self inflicted! Heredity, FAS, ADHD, accidents etc. How could we separate them? Fact, the rich will always be at the front! is it fair? shortens the line a bit... If you could sort out the malingerers, leaches, etc from the system I think most health services would be quite successful, Q. where would drunks and drug addicts fit in the scale along with obese and smokers?
