  1. Not sure if this should be here or "Is there a God†but I hope my thoughts/ opinion doesn't offend anyone. I'm not sure! and not just hedging my bet but one minute I think how could there possibly be a God the next how could there not be, how could we possibly just "evolve†I feel that the bible and other such writings came from the scholars of the time writing what they think they saw and heard, I'm sure that depending on how educated our brains are that is how we explain events. I think the bible was a simplistic account of events based on many actual facts, and shouldn't be taken too literal. When everything was quite simplistic an account would be written explaining to simple people in a way they could understand how they thought what they saw happened, the parting of the sea, the flaming bush, feeding the multitudes with fish, walking on water, eclipses, earthquakes etc. Today we are far more advanced (or are we?) and use facts and science to explain many of the unusual events that occur. But things so complex as brains, eyes, skin, thought, conscience, compassion etc just "evolved†if it was natural selection why are there millions of species when our environment isn't that diverse! Respectfully posted.
  2. Sorry for the O.T. drift Foxy, lets get back to the original topic.
  3. Pilgrim, that's our front door, the deer roam around town all night and they know who puts food out for them! (my wife does!) we usually get a group of six or seven, it's not a good idea to feed them as it sometimes brings along their predators, cougar, coyotes, red fox and lynx, occasionally wolves. Not far away (Hinton) they are shooting wolves from helicopters also poisoning them to protect the caribou! just not necessary, the animals around here have their cycles and take care of their own populations. We also have lots of animals like black and grizzly bears, moose, elk, caribou and wolverine who don't bother anyone, unless you threaten them, especially when they have their young around! their biggest threat is on the highway! ouch!
  4. These are our regular visitors!
  5. My mom used to work at Madison,s and Newman,s before that. Madison,s was usually one of the first stops on our visits home, we,d buy a pie or pastie, eat it just outside the door and then go back and try something else. Mom also worked at Segini,s, great ice cream but not as good as Seaton Delaval,s! (Didn't the common market stop or spoil their ice cream ?)
  6. Just watch the webcam, cars constantly park on the double lines and the crosswalk zig zag lines, often for quite a long time. I'm really surprised at the amount of traffic going through the town, parking and traffic flow must have just evolved and was never really planned, it must cause a few headaches for schools, shops and pedestrians.
  7. http://www.shuttleworth.org/ Possibly the best air museum I have been to. I,d love to go on a flying day! (My dad and I picked a huge bag of mushrooms walking the airfield.)
  8. Going in which direction?
  9. Fascinating, keep it going Merc, you would think they would have it documented and made available. Must go and put a pin in the map!
  10. But Merc look at the bright side you do have a bus service! (sort of!) we don't. Let us know what was there and how the excursion went!
  11. Happy birthday Mercury,I hope your having a great special day.
  12. Well Foxy sometimes you can be so close to the situation you don't see the bigger picture, it can take standing back a bit to grasp the whole situation and see things in a different perspective. (which is easy for us to say when not so affected!) Lots of good people with lots of ideas.
  13. A bedroom community, isn't that what we dream for! let the others have all that industry brings. One of the first things we learned when we came here was if you want it, go get it! don't expect others to get it for you. We have been involved with many projects, and achieved a lot of satisfaction knowing we have contributed to the community. Many of the larger projects have required lobbying, news media and plebiscites (even demonstrations!) We also found that nothings stays the same for very long! things are always changing, what was a hotel became a movie theater, then a bowling ally and downstairs is now a dance studio, with a furniture shop at ground level (was a restaurant) also the local newspaper has its office there, upstairs are various offices, I'm sure that will eventually change again, across the road the bank is now a restaurant. One of the things we found was if you involve the youth in problem areas they don't usually vandalise their own projects, instil some pride! Well said Canny Lass.
  14. Isn't the Red Lion pub now a restraunt ?

  21. Thank you foxy, I like the Shackleton, I almost flew in one at R.A.F. St Mawgan (cadets) but chose to do aerobatics in a Chipmonk! The Shackleton,s sound was very distinctive Griffon engine and counter rotating props. Great pictures and memories.
