  1. What is the licence for? is it to receive all TV signals? does that include cable, satellite and computer? Who has to pay and who is excused? Who receives the money?
  2. Happy birthday Brett, hope your having a good one.
  3. "First Nations" is the latest PC for native Americans!
  4. And now those "Indians" are some of our best friends and neighbours! Bye the way anyone play Custer.... Funny how time went at a different speed in those days! I think 1 day =one week, 1 week= 1 month!!!! one snooze and a nap and the day is almost gone!
  5. That's a bit of a fishy one HPW!
  6. Face cloot, dish cloot, floor cloot but favorite cloot was the clooty dumplings, still love the suet dumplings. making clippy and proggy mats was definetly a family get together.
  7. Isn't that what happens when the "stars†start believing what they read about themselves! I watched the show last night it was sort of "local†Wolf mountain B.C. very good entertainment but very staged.
  8. Realistically Tony, how would you like to see Bedlington developed? considering its location and the global market, foreign markets and their cheap labour, and foreign countries controlling the energy market. What industry is not reliant on outside influences and is sustainable? In years gone by, If the Governments and Unions had the country at heart and worked together to manage our car, aircraft, technology and shipbuilding industries etc, we could still be a productive export country. Too many self serving greedy politicians and union leaders with their own agendas. (I have been a strong active union member all my life) Just my humble opinion.....
  9. Missing the camera! Will it be back?
  10. I saw the picture in the context you posted it Tony an old deserted town, (but with a car just waiting to be restored! ) I think you need to look at the history of Bedlington and see how it evolved and changed due to needs of the town and area, it will always keep evolving, I think the best approach is where possible to be involved in the changes and help steer it in the right direction! I see Bedlington becoming a bedroom community, I'd divert the passing traffic and enjoy the peace and quiet, let the other towns have the headaches!
  11. So sorry to hear of Keith,s passing, he will certainly be missed by us all. Like a few others that have left us too soon he left his mark, Joe Rooney has good company!
  12. I don't think they encouraged you to smoke more but more to smoke their brand, just the same as Green Shield Stamps etc, I remember saving animal pictures from Turf cigarettes, that didn't go down well as mom and dad preferred to smoke Wild Woodbines! Down by "The Rocks†in Sydney I was in a museum that had a small room dedicated to cigarettes cards, they were from sports like cricket, football to animals, cars trains etc many I recognised that my dad had in a collectors album (I wonder where that is now?) I think the movies sponsored by cigarette companies were the most guilty of encouraging smoking, Sgt Bilko etc
  13. Brian, Moose, deer and elk are the most common but my wife won't have wild meat in the house! It,s those large Bambi eyes..... Many here only eat wild game, no butcher meat for them.
  14. Happy birthday Brian, hope you are having / had a great day!
  15. Sure did brian, thanks, isn't yours just around the corner?
  16. It was a good day, nice hearing from all of the family and your good selves, quiet, but good, thank you all.
  17. Thank you all for the best wishes, (but it's just a number! )
  18. Not sure if this should be here or "Is there a God†but I hope my thoughts/ opinion doesn't offend anyone. I'm not sure! and not just hedging my bet but one minute I think how could there possibly be a God the next how could there not be, how could we possibly just "evolve†I feel that the bible and other such writings came from the scholars of the time writing what they think they saw and heard, I'm sure that depending on how educated our brains are that is how we explain events. I think the bible was a simplistic account of events based on many actual facts, and shouldn't be taken too literal. When everything was quite simplistic an account would be written explaining to simple people in a way they could understand how they thought what they saw happened, the parting of the sea, the flaming bush, feeding the multitudes with fish, walking on water, eclipses, earthquakes etc. Today we are far more advanced (or are we?) and use facts and science to explain many of the unusual events that occur. But things so complex as brains, eyes, skin, thought, conscience, compassion etc just "evolved†if it was natural selection why are there millions of species when our environment isn't that diverse! Respectfully posted.
  19. Sorry for the O.T. drift Foxy, lets get back to the original topic.
  20. Pilgrim, that's our front door, the deer roam around town all night and they know who puts food out for them! (my wife does!) we usually get a group of six or seven, it's not a good idea to feed them as it sometimes brings along their predators, cougar, coyotes, red fox and lynx, occasionally wolves. Not far away (Hinton) they are shooting wolves from helicopters also poisoning them to protect the caribou! just not necessary, the animals around here have their cycles and take care of their own populations. We also have lots of animals like black and grizzly bears, moose, elk, caribou and wolverine who don't bother anyone, unless you threaten them, especially when they have their young around! their biggest threat is on the highway! ouch!
  21. These are our regular visitors!
  22. My mom used to work at Madison,s and Newman,s before that. Madison,s was usually one of the first stops on our visits home, we,d buy a pie or pastie, eat it just outside the door and then go back and try something else. Mom also worked at Segini,s, great ice cream but not as good as Seaton Delaval,s! (Didn't the common market stop or spoil their ice cream ?)
  23. Just watch the webcam, cars constantly park on the double lines and the crosswalk zig zag lines, often for quite a long time. I'm really surprised at the amount of traffic going through the town, parking and traffic flow must have just evolved and was never really planned, it must cause a few headaches for schools, shops and pedestrians.
  24. http://www.shuttleworth.org/ Possibly the best air museum I have been to. I,d love to go on a flying day! (My dad and I picked a huge bag of mushrooms walking the airfield.)
