Help Protect Bedlington's Smithy/stable
Adam Hogg replied to Daniel.Potts's topic in Talk of the Town
Maybe, Maybe not foxy. 65 letters of objection, 2 letters of Neutral (not support or objecting) and 4 letters of support. Can't see how the county can give permission with the public being against the development with a ratio of about 10/1 against it, same with the planning inspectorate with the public and the local town council against the development I can't see how they as well can give permission. I still can't understand how Anthony Rutherford could not use Solar Power he would not have need planning permission for that as far as i know and if he did it would have been passed because nobody would have seen them and objected to them. But keep an eye on it: http://publicaccess.northumberland.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=details&keyVal=MP3L8GQS2L000- 58 replies

Well looks like the Tories are trying to win votes with miners now after playing politics with their jobs in the 80's and 90's: http://www.bbc.co.uk...litics-24954274 If you watch the video he avoids the question: "Won't people working here think its a bit of cheek for a chancellor, a conservative chancellor to come to a mine, when many miners blame your party for pit closures?"

Help Protect Bedlington's Smithy/stable
Adam Hogg replied to Daniel.Potts's topic in Talk of the Town
At the end of the day if there are Bats on site or in the building they will not be able to remove or kill the bats as it is an offense to do so and i'm sure you will be keeping your eyes open and contacting the right people if you see anything like this happen.- 58 replies

Waste of money, Why? It only reduces the trip time from London to Birmingham by 20 minutes. Only goes to Birmingham not up to the top of the county (north east mainly as you don't know what Scotland wants) Does not decrease amount of trains on routes like the east coast and west coast mainlines. Could be better spent on opening older routes I.E Blyth and Tyne to reduce trains on mainlines. Have other reasons but don't want to bore you all.

Anyone have any idea how to get bats into the building that will stop them. Also this issue is on the agenda of West Bedlington Town Council on the 14/11/2013 under planning and I must say will be vote against the application for a number of reasons, hopefully the other Town Councillors will do the same and that will mean a letter of objection from West Bedlington Town Council.- 58 replies

The problem with Swan Hunter in 2006 was they had poor management, resulting in delays and cost overruns: http://en.wikipedia....yme_Bay_(L3007) Then the MOD removed Swan Hunter from any future Royal Navy project meaning swan hunter stopped building ships and lost jobs. Also depends on what you class as growth of industry (more Jobs or more money) if jobs none only because of more advanced technology however most operated at profit until the 80's when places steelworks, mines, etc. where flooded with new unneeded equipment and deemed unprofitable. One last thing though what Industry has grew though private enterprise since the privatization's of the 80's and 90's?
-
Another Industry going to dust thanks to the Tories, If they had not been privatized thousands of jobs would have still been in the Newcastle, Gateshead, Teeside, and now Portsmouth along with many others. Politics Should never come before jobs look over the last 20 years Politics before Jobs: British Coal, British Steel, British Leyland, British Rail, Vickers, Alcan all victims of privatization, Lack of investment, Green Taxes and now Referendums.

Bedlington Station - Miners Houses Ownership
Adam Hogg replied to tullybrone's topic in History Hollow
At the time you are talking about the miners cottages, I would have thought they would be owned by the colliery company so the Bedlington Coal Company, as well as that the colliery your relatives would have most likely worked at would have been Bedlington A colliery next to Bedlington station. at least i would have thought i may be wrong. -
Hope they don't make them any bigger because Kieth L will be making kylie minogue if they do.

Just for another bit of information, the dragline in the photo served at Bedlington, Widdrington, Butterwell and Stobswood opencasts and even featured on BBC's Jim'll Fix it, but was taken out of service in 1993 by RJB mining and stood out of service till it was sold for scrap in 2003 by UK coal the contractor who dismantled it was O'Brien demolition and dismantling.

This the article you talking about? If so, It's copyright owned by the news post leader.

As I said before Barton Rafie that could be looked at, but we don't have a group and I can't do it all myself.
-
Shame a Memorial like that can't be for Bedlingtonshire Miners, but nobody seems interested in starting a working group and trying to get a memorial for Bedlingtonshire Miners except me and I can't do it all myself.
