  1. I have raised this with the town council and the town council is to be asked at the next full meeting if it supports the idea of a miners memorial.
  2. The Town Council have an Extra Ordinary Town Council Meeting and this is one of the planning issues we have been informed of so anyone who can, feel free to attend It is at the community centre on 8th August 2013 at 6.30pm.
  3. Find attached copy of the agenda for the Extra Ordinary Town Council Meeting on the 8th August 2013.
  4. I Agree with you Threegee on Scargill he is as much to blame for the closure of the British coal mining industry as Thatcher as he went into her trap, but at least he did not use the power of the office of prime minister to get everything covered up, Example: I looked on the national archives website papers of the Chairman and the Vice-Chairman of the National Coal Board. between 1943-1997 Subject to 30 year closure unless otherwise stated. Why is that? unless they have something to hide.
  5. Most Ex-miners Pickets or not, do believe troops were dressed up as police and there were some signs of this, "police" without I.D numbers, Tactics and behavior but unless papers are released with them orders on, most people will not believe it.
  6. If they wanted to stop shoplifting Malcolm they should have used these eyes:
  7. Seems the truth about the Thatcher government's plans for the Coal Industry are starting to come out: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-23518589 Only a shame she can't be held to account over it now.
  8. The Video does not seem to inform people of the fact of the large US Airbase on Midway Island where do you think all the rubbish goes from the base on a ship back to the US for disposal, no most likely dumped somewhere on the island away from the base, put on a ship and dumped at sea or burnt.
  9. Great Photos did not know they had a BF 109 this year, saw the Catalina and the Apache on Friday flying over Nissan where I'm working at the moment, the Apache did a few runs Nissan.
  10. Biomass to go ahead at Battleship Wharf. http://www.thejourna...station-5317453

  12. Thank God no one was killed, could have easily engulfed the whole row of house's if the fire had gotten out of control, but thanks to the quick response of the fire service that did not happen.
  13. Happy Birthday Tony, Hope you enjoyed it.
  14. A fitting tribute to George, who gave up so much of his time and effort to Gallagher Park right up until the end.
  15. Here is an age old one for you Malcolm, hoy ya hammer o'er here hinny Can you understand that one if so welcome to the world of the Pitmatic. Here is a video for you to understand the language if you don't understand the saying:
  16. UK coal operate in Morpeth and Ashington both are opencast mines and as we all know they hit the press in 2005 with their closure of Ellington Colliery, but the effects of this as you said, will have 10% cut from their pensions are going to be felt by the post 1994 miners not those employed pre 1994 under the NCB and British Coal. The Coal Industry should still be in public hands as should most of the industry privatized in the 80's/early 90's.
  17. Your not Prince Phillip Keith, are you?
  18. The current Tory party? At least Michael Gove is in it.
  19. Welcome back Bill, Hope your better now. You should write a few books with all the knowledge you have on coal mining and local collieries.
  20. Best way to make coal a cleaner fuel is to mine it then send it to a coke works, in Newcastle at the Ottovale coke works they had the best system there, the coal was mined from local pits then it was sent into the coke works which turned out coke, heat and oil. The heat was used in a power station to generate electricity, the oil was sent to a refinery to be made into petrol, diesel and creosote and the coke was sent to steel works. That is the best system keeps hundreds/thousands of people in work, solves the energy problems in the county and helps other industry produce products.
  21. Bring back the years of the NCB then you don't have to worry about the lights going out for over 300 years minimum and they knew all about clean coal so you could burn it without all the "Greenhouse Gases."
  22. I have raised the issue with the county council and they are trying to get them repaired now.
  23. Yes Symptoms, John does have a brother called Peter, and John is 62-63.
  24. The most important thing is it is back where it belongs, a great thanks to the family who kept a hold of it for all these years and kept it is great condition as well.
  25. The only Memorial to those who died down the pit I think is the one at Woodhorn but I'm not sure, I don't know of any other ones.
