  1. On the Ashington side of the Sheepwash bridge you can walk to a farm that has no road access and is in a beautiful setting. It is a ruin now . I wonder if anyone else has explored this isolated spot.
  2. What a knowledgable audience last night. The Colliery Rows are living memories for most of us here in Bedlington The days of the veg plot with pigs and chickens in the garden. These days may return as the food runs out. Next meeting is Monday the 28th April and is The Golden Age of Northumbria Mrs A Swearman
  3. Yep the Roxy was a ballroom!
  4. Monday 24th Dr Winifred Stokes is talking about The Raws Housing the NE Miners in the 19th Century. Coffin Chapel 7:30
  5. The Jungle Book is a firm favourite in our family. We all resort to quotes on almost a permanent basis.
  6. Maybe at different times they moved the box office! There was another cinema so that could be where the memory becomes vague. Canny Lass can you remember writing off for information on industry in geography! I got a little carried away applying for tickets for Tyne Tees TV. These provided a cheap trip out to see characters like Helen Shapiro , Bobby Vee.
  7. Surely the figures are £301,500! If the figures are more where has the money gone! A break down of the figures is needed! We all know how little Bedlington has by way of Sports Centres etc
  8. Weatherspoons is now in charge. After the Tuesday steak night , I am left wondering which side door was the box office door. Friend says it was on the left but I keep thinking right. Anyone solve the problem . In the sixties their play list before the show started included 'Ring if Fire' and 'Band of Gold'. Again maybe the memory is not to good after all it was nearly 50 years ago. Two cinemas and the Roxy, we had lots to do and places to go in the dark ages Anyone get the train to Whitley Bay? The Hotspur and the Fat Ox then the last train back to Bedlington.
  9. Happy Birthday
  10. Someone is going to make a lot if money.
  11. Welcome back Wonky. Are you going to sell you 'signs' in England. Could you do me a Gan Canny' sign.
  12. We all know 'The Bedlington' is a star. Regardless of any competition.
  13. Happy Birthday , have a great day.
  14. I agree Adam, he was inspirational. Someone who always stood up for his ideals in life. If 'Evil exists when good men/women do nothing' , then Tony Benn was the person who truly cared for causes and people who were isolated from the mainstream. He was often alone in his support for an individual or a cause. A brave man, who will be missed.
  15. No Malcolm, I have not heard the story. Maybe I was in Outer Mongolia at the time. Obviously I can guess at the tale. On Breakfast TV Sting said Jimmy Nail had been his 'Muse'. Where upon Jimmy said that was the worst insult he had ever had to suffer.
  16. Sting worked in Cramlington as a teacher. Not sure about the Budgie story.
  17. How about only a few people there for the first trial year and then the official start was the next year. That way everyone can be right. Either way our lot started in 1958. A good year some might say.
  18. Now now Symptoms I may have to refer you to a higher authority 'God' Actually God may already be after Sting! To understand you would have to listen to the Last Ship and decide if he is blaspheming!
  19. The play at the Theatre Royal this week 'Tyne' is excellent. Great use of music. ( including a couple of Sting songs) Michael Chaplin has produced a book 'Tyne View' which describes his walk along the river. It was from this, that the play became a reality.
  20. The slip /up is the 24th is not the last day of the month! The History Society is to still go ahead with the 24th ! So still a clash, with the Forum meeting.
  21. Welcome to the site Alan.
  22. Yet again people claim the date of 12th Dec 1069 as the only reason for our church being here in Bedlington. From the writings of Rev Alexander Campbell -Fraser MA who wrote and published a history of Bedlington Church in 1924; it is stated that Bedlington Church reaches back to the seven years wanderings of the monks with the body during the period 875/882. One of these people was Eilaf . This man and his descendants are associated with Bedlington for many generations. Bishop Cutheard purchased the town about the year 900. We need a Time Team investigation or a follow on from the Walking through history programme about Saint Cuthbert.
  23. Sorry won't make it but hope it goes well.
  24. Supporting any local team is a test of character. No fair weather supporters here! Win or lose it is the team that matters. Love the headlines in the Chronicle, something to the effect that Pardew is now one of us! Border Reiver Genes maybe. You can fall but you must not lie down. A line from Dougie Maclean
  25. Aurora Borealis the display here on Thursday was spectacular. We missed the show , did anyone witness the great event!
