  1. @Symptoms - I don't have any images but I'm told the road across the railway lines at Bedlington Station is closed whilst they demolish the buildings.

The residents in Melrose Court have been told that work is soon to start on the building of an engine maintenance shed and a fence is to be erected between the road into Melrose Court and the railway line.

The photo is from Evan Martin's book "Bedlingtonshire Now And Then"

Thanks @James I have got that one but never really read through it - just flicked through when I first got it and though that should come in handy one day and filed it away from the other Evan Martin books I have - pity I hadn't take much notice of it:innocent: - I've now moved it in among the other Evan Martin books and I'll have a full read one day. I'll still forget most of the content and will still have to flick through it, and the others, when I get asked for info on old Bedlington:)

The attached photo is from one of Evan Martin's books with the names of some of the previous owners.

Cheers @James - I had not remembered that photo so I had a scan through the Evan Martin books I have and I see the photo is in the book 'The People's History Bedlingtonshire Remembered' page 109 but the text with that photo says '............ Edwin Brady must have been successful has he had a shop down the Front Street and this one on Glebe Road........'

Which of the Evan Martin's books is your photo from?

  4. @HIGH PIT WILMA as I never really passed those shops as I was an lad from The Oval in the 50's and 60's I did some searching and asked a couple of questions on the Bygone Bedlington Facebook group.

Unfortunately can't find a photo of Fullarton's, just photos of what it was before and after. These are some of the comments plus a compilation photo of Now and Then and one image that might have Fullarton's in but it's two far away to make out the name on the shop:)

Again can't find an image of Adamson's with the name above the shop but this one from Marian Bullivant, c1960, shows the St Bede's May parade going past the shop :-

    Bill Riley,where are ye?!!...please explain!

Unfortunately @HIGH PIT WILMA I can't contact Bill Riley - he's no longer on the Blyth group and I also checked the Friends Of Bates Colliery Facebook group but he has never been a member of that group.

Fortunately @James has sorted it so you can click on the link he supplied and read away:D

Bill Riley did post some other photos of Bates pit  and I will post them for you. Do you think I should add Bill's photos to your album in the Gallery?

...............................................if you are the right person for the job and work well in the team? I wouldn't like to be the employer who turns away a competent, prospective co-worker on my team just because they happened to have the wrong sex or colour needed to maintain the 'correct' balance in the workforce.

and that @Canny lass is just about word for word what would have been my next comment:punk:. Great minds think alike - and where not the same gender:)

Wow, not even a token white male in cabinet!  This IS interesting.

Now isn't it strange that even the BBC news mentioned that there were no white males.

Many in this world has spent years protesting that women and blacks should be on an equal footing as the white male. I would even say , in my opinion, the BBC that broadcasts all over the world have been attempting to have black, white and women on the same level as the white male. I was amazed that when they were broadcasting from outside 10 Downing Street when watching to see who Liz brought into the cabinet Nick Eardley ( the Stanley Baxter look alike :D) stated that there were no white males.

Does this mean that the tables are now reversed and the white males can now start claiming they are being discriminated against. and can start protest meetings and marches asking for equality?

Will we ever get the point where no matter what sex or colour, no matter what the balance is, everyone will treat everyone else as equal and just get on with it:wtf:

On the great photo of the mountain,ye can see where the Bogies have been re-sited ti start tipping onto another part of the land adjacent ti the Mother heap! If the pit had still been ganning, tha wudda been Twin Heaps by noo!!

My Uncle Tommy Cadwallender and his family lived in them hooses, and when my Parents lived doon on the Willow Bridge,in Storey's Buildings,me Mutha used ti tek us bairns through the pit yard ti see them.

A distinctly remember,in aboot 1947,aged three yrs, seeing this massive pipe gushing filthy stinking black watta inti a greet big pond..[the pit ponds!!],and me Mutha frightening me by warning me not ti gaan and play near them ponds cos tha was a laddie droonded in them..a just canna remember the laddie's name.

Aa nivvor forgot the noise and smell of the waata gushing..it was terrifying ti a wee bairn like me..then we went through the yard, passed the screens and the rail sidings..loads o knocking and bangin from the tubs up in the Heapstead, the tipplers, the creepers, the cages rattling up and doon..steam blaan off wi the steam winders, black smoke from the boilers,AND the tankies shuntin' the trucks under the screens and being teemed inti ...Noise,Smells,loads of locomotion constantly..wat a dangerous environment it was!!..but that was pitwark..and we aal knew nowt else!!

The heap was on the right of the rail line wat went up ti Choppington High Pit,which was used ti bring the High Pit Coal doon ti join the main line.

It is noo knaan as Choppington Community Wood Walk..and a lovely walk it is..well done to the friends of Choppington Woods Project!!

    Cheers,Bill.

Sorry - It should read 'the 6 townships website no longer exists'

@James - John had two groups. One on Facebook that changed the name from Six Townships group to the Past Times History group and John is Admin of that group. The other group where john produced videos and booklets etc of the local Six Townships was kept going but checking now I am like you, can't find it.

Are you on Facebook? If not I can contact @johndawsonjune1955 for you, via Facebook messenger, and see if there are still copies of the DVD available.

And she's the best candidate for the job😟........bring back Boris

In agree with you - at least with Boris you got a laugh:D. Can you imagine having to listen to Liz Truss, probably nightly, on the evening news:(.

Back in the 1960's & 70's I voted for Labour as that is who everyone I knew voted for and the party I had been indoctrinated with and I preferred the Harold Wilson character to the Ted Heath character. Following those years there was no way I could even speak the name of that chemist born to a green grocer yet alone vote for her.

naturally from 1990 i would vote for anyone to replace the chemist but didn't really care who it was. Over the last twenty years my votes, normally for three candidates, in the local council elections would be one labour, one Conservative and one from the Green party. I could never bring myself to vote for the Lib Dem candidate - just couldn't see the point of them.

These days I wish Al Murray would come and be in the NE elections - I would vote for him =

The Pub Landlord standing against all the established political parties as the sole candidate for his Free United Kingdom Party (FUKP).

I cannot remember anything about The Low Pit (Choppington ‘A’) other than the pit heap that could be seen from miles around. I have attached a better photo of the pit heap and on the plan I have indicated where I think it was taken. I believe it was from behind North Front Row with Fourth Row on the right. The pit headgear is just out of sight to the right of the photo.

Cheers @James - so my attempts - A,B,C,D & E - to identify where the pit heap was were all wrong:)
