  8. There aren't many active members Thelma so you may not be lucky. If you 'hover' over the name tag of the person you are interested in the system displays a bit of info about the member that includes the date that person last visited the site. Another method of attempting to notify a member of the group of a comment you have made is by starting your comment with the members name preceded by the @ character. Yon can select the members name you are attempting to notify from the list of names the system displays and the name will be surrounded with a blue box and then you just type your comment and the sytem sends a notification to the member you have selected..
  9. Photo posted on the Past Times History Facebook group by John Dawson. I posted the photo on the Cambois & Bygone Bedlington Facebook groups and the members have named them all. The Bucham family have the photo and have the names, written on the back of their photo.
  10. @Thelma Collingwood - welcome to the group. I don't know anyone with the surname Collingwood but there is a method within this group of searching for words or phrase (wrapped in "...."). If you type the word Collingwood into the search box, top right hand corner and then hit send then an extract from any entry in the group with that word will be displayed. You can then select that extract and view the whole topic. You will see from the search that I did the name Collingwood appears in one of the entries posted in the Gallery within an Album called 'Netherton Colliery Band'.
  11. @Vic Patterson & @Canny lass - some photos you may, or my not, have seen of the area :- c1930 No date but the Air raid shelter for the Village school hasn't been built in this photo so pre 1939 The Neuk - Salmon Place BACCI The Cross Tavern
  12. No 26 updated - Catherine Burch.
  13. @Vic Patterson - I put your comment on the Bygone Bedlington group and I 'Tagged' Keith Scantelbury as I remember he used to live at the Market place in the 1950's. Keith replied with :- Alan, I can't remember a Phillips yard. We moved to what is 5 Market Place in 1958 I think, I would have been 3 in December that year. The two houses there belonged to Mr. and Mrs Johnson ( of the shoe shop) so to some it may have been known as Johnson's yard. Carrick's the baker shared the same yard. Next door was the yard behind the Bank and the butcher's where the slaughter house and lairage was. That was accessed by the alley by Oranges garage ( now Tyred and Exhausted - Avor) . Further along the other way was the Neuk an further up the street were a few yards . The ones I can remember were the Council yard and Foggons yard where Newton and Mrs Foggon lived. It's quite some time since I visited Bedlington.co.uk Alan. I used to talk with Vic regularly. He worked with my mother's cousin over in Canada. Pleased to hear he is still kicking about. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I told Keith I had passed on his message and he replied with :- Keith Scantlebury Alan Edgar yes please, send him my regards . He worked with Kenneth Charlton my mams cousin
  14. Don't know it Vic and not named on any of the old 1920 to 1947 maps I have looked at. I've posted your question on the Bygone Bedlington Facebook group to see if any member knows anything about the yard
  15. 1964 photo from Shirley Truffit - Facebook group Bedlington remembered. Names from Jean Hale.
  16. Two years, that's the norm, isn't it "High streets across the country are suffering through the rise of out of town and internet shopping with austerity making things worse." "Many vital redevelopment projects have been entirely abandoned, including the now infamous ‘Ashington Hole’ and our long-awaited development of the old school site in Newbiggin." Killingworth Road traffic nightmare The road, in South Gosforth , first closed in July 2017 to undergo a £13.5m transformation that has seen a new Metro bridge installed and the road widened. That work should have been all done by February 2018, but is still incomplete after engineers encountered numerous problems including severe weather and asbestos. So in 10 years time the headlines will be - Amazon Prime delivery delayed by 30 mins. The government Watchdog & COBR committee to hold emergency meetings. Regardless of what anyone thinks of council members or Advance Northumberland or Ian Lavery etc. etc. surely the delays are mainly down to the major retailer = a supermarket chain trying to expand it's business making the final decision to build a new store and then the other retailers, and property developers join in.
  17. @Apple John - info updated to c1965
