  1. I'd be worried if they were leaving the Terrier and then smashing into the walls! Nah, it's normally caused by t*** pots who think a 30mph road surrounded by houses and that runs past a green where kids play football instead of bricking windows, is for doing 70mph on because it's a nice long bit of road. Then they get to the corner and wonder why they've ended up through a wall.
  2. Just thought I'd create a new topic for the Google OS idea because I'm interested in what other people think about it. Quote from Google: "All of us at Google spend much of our time working inside a browser. We search, chat, email and collaborate in a browser. And in our spare time, we shop, bank, read news and keep in touch with friends -- all using a browser. Because we spend so much time online, we began seriously thinking about what kind of browser could exist if we started from scratch and built on the best elements out there. We realized that the web had evolved from mainly simple text pages to rich, interactive applications and that we needed to completely rethink the browser. What we really needed was not just a browser, but also a modern platform for web pages and applications, and that's what we set out to build." Taken from this article I think it's highly likely that Google will either create an OS of their own (For free of course), or as the writer of the article speculated, create something which can be run on any device without Windows. We already know that Google is a major threat to Microsoft due to its massive array of open source / free applications and the whole idea of Cloud Computing seems to be catching on. But would there be a market for a Google OS or would it struggle to break into the home user market like Linux?

    Linux discussion

It's good to see that we can now buy laptops off the shelves with a Linux OS pre-installed and you sometimes save a little bit of money too. Not long ago Linux was virtually unheard of outside of the programmer circles but I think in time it will steadily gain more market share in the home consumer market as people are exposed to it on the shelves more and especially with all the hype around open source right now. Speaking of open source, who else thinks it's only a matter of time before Google releases it's own operating system?
  4. So hold on then... is the latest release of 'Open' Office free or what?
  5. Every other month you get a car hitting those walls, they might as well just give up and knock them down completely.

  7. According to the website it's £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for children which doesnt seem too bad.
  8. If Piggly Wiggly's has closed, the Market Tavern might be the only option for people wanting a cuppa and a beef stottie.

  10. If they didn’t check your meter for 2 years, then that’s their fault and surely you shouldn’t have had to pay that money. The same thing happened to someone who was on Watchdog and they managed to get the company to scrap the debt (think it was British Gas?). It's amazing what they'll do (and how quickly they'll do it) when BBC's Watchdog gets on their backs... but for the rest of us, we just have to struggle on and usually end up paying the price for their mistakes! I've wrote several complaints to Npower now without success, my next step is to get in touch with the energy ombudsman, which I'll do once I've had a reply to my latest email.
  11. Most of the time it isn't an issue, but there has been a few occasions when it's annoyed me... You could always disable it for a week or two and see how it goes.

  13. Fair enough, I won’t "make my choice of boozer" solely on what’s being said on a forum. I'd base it on my own experience and taste, but I will give the new owner of a pub the benefit of the doubt. I visited the Dun Cow for the first time in months because Pam (justme on this forum) came across as a nice lass and seemed as though she was actually trying to make something of the place.

  15. Now that I've switched to British Gas from Npower I've been submitting my meter readings every week... and I've seen my monthly bills drop from £70 to £33. All I can say to everyone reading this is SUBMIT YOUR OWN READINGS! Otherwise you'll be paying for energy you don't use! You can do it online or over the phone 24/7. If you use the phone it's all automated so you don’t have to wait in queues – just ring the number and type in your reading using the keypad – job done. Don’t pay any more than you need to; get your meter checked and get your reading submitted.

  17. To be honest, I wouldnt put it past Apple to release something like this in the future. It's true what the presenter said in the video "Everything is just a few hundred clicks away".

  20. I thought I'd heard the end of Npower once I'd switched to British Gas... but the other day I got a bill through the door for £180 from Npower. How can they bill me when I switched to BG weeks ago? Not only that but because I'm refusing to pay it, their passing it on to debt collectors. Sodding !*!@# ...
  21. A bridal shop? Thats a bit random for Bedlington isnt it?
  22. Theres always rumors about pubs closing in Bedlington, apprently, the Market Tavern has been closing since 2005.
  23. It is closed on certain days, I've been passed a few times and it's been closed on an evening...
  24. Most of that is true, like I said; it's about time he got locked up. It’s not often that I'm that bothered about what other people say or do but he really does deserve whatever crap he gets from now on.
  25. Are we still talking about the Red Lion here? If so, the tests are probably aimed at the young lads. Anyway, it's about time he got locked up, the whole place ought to be locked up, or better yet, burnt to the ground!
