EU - Remain or Brexit - Bedlington.co.uk poll
threegee replied to Alan Edgar (Eggy1948)'s topic in Chat Central
Maybe you need to apply that same extrapolation method to the immigration figures too? Anyway, if you are even half right in relation to the actual poll, my forecast is that in the 2020 GE Ukip will win 400+ seats, and there won't be a second referendum because that will be an implicit mandate to revoke the European Communities Act 1972. One thing is totally certain: whatever it takes and however it pans out, we will be out of the EU within a decade; so it might just as well be now, when it's less painful. -
Well... they aren't going to, are they? All we get served up is this facile crap like "fighting" a "well of hate". Where do Cameron and Corbyn suppose this "well of hate" is lurking, if not in the mind of a lone crazed individual already in custody. The star prize for inane drivel must go - once again - to Gordo. Well Gordon, it HAS happened in Britain before; it DID happen in Britain yesterday; and precisely how do you propose that it will never again happen? Your other automated response: "it's a global problem" would have been more telling, though of no more avail. Our politicians need to learn that when there's nothing of use to be said, they do have the option of not saying anything. A simple shake of the head is all it takes.

Maybe someone should have pointed out to him the essential irony in buying "FREE SPEECH" publications on the very same order as he bought the plans for making a gun!

I'd imagine that any ancient civilisation who employed the wheel, or even used log rollers, could claim some origination by throwing down a couple of lengths of wood on boggy ground. I'm talking about the practical deployment of course, and in particular the revolutionary flanged rail which now spans the world. And, when continental rail museums have Bedlington locomotives (or copies thereof) proudly displayed as firsts, and we don't even have a bloomin' picture on display anywhere in the town, and seem intent on belittling our own heritage, it's a rather poor show! Stratford on Avon has built an entire industry out of a local hick who didn't even spell his name the same as the actual guy, and illustrates him by a fictitious bust that was sneaked into the local church under cover of darkness in fairly recent times. Our history has real substance, and our connections to the Stephensons irrefutable. Nope, it's not just the politics, it's a total lack of imagination as to the possibilities! If it's a squiggly red line then right click on it and add it to your local dictionary.

The trick to read the Torygraph pages is to simply kill the cookie - but I didn't tell you that! If you use Firefox then install: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/cookiekiller/?src=api Simply right click on the subscription blocked page; select kill cookies for telegraph.co.uk; then refresh the page with the circular arrow symbol in the address bar.

Thomas Mair: Man arrested in connection with attack on Jo Cox was 'a quiet loner who kept himself to himself'

TT? It won't make the BBC until the Guardian has approved it as entirely PC! There's probably a now rapidly-filling tray marked Hold until 24th June. Actually, not all BBC news editors are beyond the pale, but the bad has tended to drive out the fair-minded. It's a bit like posting comments on the BBC website: you rapidly learn that you are wasting your time and what actually appears is only a what they want to hear. Anything remotely criticising the BBC itself, no matter how politely it is phrased, will be ruthlessly deleted under the flimsiest of excuses, or otherwise consigned to a moderation committee where it will languish for ages until it is no longer topical.

The Swiss applied to join the EU 24 years ago. Since then they've become less and less convinced that it was the right thing to do, but have left their application on the table just in case circumstances changed and/or the people had a change of heart. They even agreed to be part of Schengen, but two years ago asked Brussels to allow them to set immigration quotas to protect their public services and standard of living. Their polite and earnest request was turned down flat by Merkel and her cronies. That's about the time they decided they'd had enough, but didn't do anything much about it at that time. Well... in a beautifully timed move just seven days before our referendum, they've told the EU to consider their application withdrawn; that it can forget that Switzerland ever applied to join, and that they are utterly set on being an "independent sovereign nation". This is designed to hit the EU at the most embarrassing time, and also send a hearty message to British voters. At least half of Europe (including 61% of the French) are hoping we are going to give the Eurocrats what they've been asking for for over 30 years, and we mustn't disappoint them. We're part of a great continent that is being trashed by its political elites, and a continent that once again desperately needs our leadership. We are never listened to in Brussels, and our sincere and well reasoned reform proposals are always outvoted. It's no wonder that Cameron got nowhere with his watered down proposals, and ended up dropping five of his nine "lines in the sand" and neutering the other four. But, we CAN exert very powerful "influence" for the reform that Cameron is always going on about through our referendum result. In fact a Brexit vote will shock Brussels to its very core; it will then have no option but to start listening to real European citizens, and not the international business lobby groups who currently pull all the strings. Don't fall for the simplistic lie that a Leave vote is being a "little Englander". Amongst other valuable things a Leave vote is being a responsible and caring European - just like our Swiss friends! Love Europe -- Hate the EU -- Help Europeans -- Vote Leave

Oh, clean forgot: don't like that song. Try this great one instead (and note the lyrics). -

So, you tossed a coin? You know what the REAL difference between this referendum and the 1975 one is? In 1975 we all thought Ted Heath was telling us the truth, but the truth didn't actually cross his lips until a candid moment a decade or more later. Then everyone had an excuse for being fooled, and the people who voted against were probably only voting for the status quo - always understandable. This time around we all know Cameron is a serial liar (even his own party tell us that), and it has just been revealed what a vindictive little sod Osborne is! They are both running true to their record of being the Eaton school bullies. So, youngsters still have the naivety defence to fall back on, but us olduns have no such excuse. What's more, anyone who thinks the status quo is on offer this time around is seriously deluded. They'll be a lot wiser - not in the next decade this time, but before the year is out! Hopefully all the tossed coins will average out, and I (and others) will be cruelly deprived of our told-you-so moment. -
Better still if we - very rightly - claimed to be home of the railways too! This one (like Daniel Gooch and the Transatlantic Cable) has been overshadowed by partisan politics for far too long!

Why would you be confused? The truth is the truth wherever it comes from, and I've never questioned Tony's sincerity. There were many Hampstead -residing, champagne (do what I say not what I do) socialists visiting Bedlington in election years, but Tony was a regular, and steadfastly came because he believed and actually cared, never to simply canvas votes. I quite respected little George Brown too, despite his obvious problem. We've still got a few conviction politicians left (like David Owen, who I now greatly admire), but, otherwise than a few senior Ukippers (who certainly aren't doing it for the money or even the glory), they're a rapidly dying breed.

EU - Remain or Brexit - Bedlington.co.uk poll

Why remain Eggy?! Have you caught a bad case of "let's all hold hands and make Europe a better place"? That only works if you are on the Euro Gravy Train, and that particular service doesn't run through the North East and never will. -
Having watched the truly baffling performance of Gordon Brown in Glasgow recently Gordo is my own choice.

Do the police generally hand out three page lists of bye-laws, or did some councillor or council official come primed with a long list of possible excuses intent on selecting the most convenient one as cover for their intended purpose? Amazing that our otherwise perceptive CL didn't see this in the video!

It could be as it's a link - I will capture it for you.

That's great, then please revisit your entirely disinterested comments in the light of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Reckless does this meet with your wish for official endorsement on the issue, or should we hold out for the result of Chilcot to see if it gets a mention there?

Opening shot: 3 police though one might have been council official. (no turbans or policewomen) 1:26: Two or three police. 1:31: One police (one with turban) plus a rather threatening policeman or council official. 1:35: Policeman with turban again, plus policewoman. 1:38 ditto. 1:40 ditto. 2:02 Three police officials obviously pressuring "GO" stall which clearly isn't causing any traffic or pedestrian obstruction. 2:22 Two police again, with Remain stall not being harassed. It would appear that the prime motivator here was a councillor and his officials, and that the police were only doing what they were asked to do by the council. I know from practical experience how amazingly camera shy our police can be, and these don't appear to be exceptional in that respect. If I said something like "there is something about that video which doesn't quite ring true" you'd have derided my lack of hard evidence. Yet, here you display a baffling degree of criticality for someone who otherwise offers excuses for (and clearly sides with those who wish to turn a blind eye to) mass sex crimes! "I have no interest one way or the other." Oh, I think you surely do!

The Labour Party could be gutted to find that they've now lost one of their very safest seats. But... you may simply being prophetic for 2020 here, as Ukip has gone from zero to biting the heels of the Welsh Nats in the Welsh Assembly. Unlike you I've mostly missed Wales on my travels, but I'm really starting to warm to the Welsh in my old age - Iechyd da!
-
Could it be possible that - like many enterprises - the proprietors/workers feel strongly motivated to preserve our democracy, and are simply doing what they do best using the facilities to hand? No £699 / 3.5 min charge, and no warning bells there! Why would Ukip Wales even know about this - yet? It's not just kippers who feel strongly about EU intrusion into every aspect of their lives - it's people across the political spectrum (excepting those who haven't now completely sold out on their once sincerely held beliefs, like Jeremy C!).

http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/679270/Germany-cut-Britain-off-EU-single-market-Brexit Hang on in there: didn't Honest Dave tell us that there's absolutely, positively, genuinely, cast-iron-promisingly, no going back from an LEAVE vote? And, how can Germany possibly make such a commitment on behalf of the other 26 "nations"? It's almost as if Germany thinks they will all do exactly as they are told by the Fuhrer - oops German Chancellor! Confused? Well... take heart... you're certainly nothing like as confused as both the Tory and Labour parties! Seems like the "fruitcakes and swivel-eyed loons" are the only ones who've been consistently telling it as it is!

It seems that the Witches of Davewick have gifted Boris a significant sympathy vote. Ms Izzard made an utter fool of him/her/self. Exactly what the BBC Guardinistas were thinking when they chose Izzard to represent the Remain case could be a long discussion on another thread. My first guess might be that it could reveal Nigel Farage's essential "bigotry" toward LGBT (did I get all this week's initials right?) people and by implication that he was a "racist" too. Was the pink beret Che-Guevara-symbolic of a "pink" revolutionary, but - more importantly - did it match the lipstick? As someone who supports the Fourth Reich, accusing Nigel Farage of betraying his Huguenot roots was choice!

I think these ex-pats have been done a disservice by the media. I'd like to place money on the fact that the great majority will vote for their country and not for any mistakenly believed self interest. Very few ex-pats are fooled by the silly threats of them losing their homes or being forced to return to the UK, or any of the other nonsense coming out of Dodgy Dave's campaign back-door. Most of them know someone who is English speaking in their area who comes from a non-EU country (USA, Canada etc.) and get to swap experiences. Apart from the odd extra form to fill in there's nothing significantly different in their lifestyle, and everyone there before Brexit has acquired rights under the Vienna Convention anyway. They all pay significant amounts into the local economy (unlike the lies being told about them "living and working in the EU"), and if the UK were to retaliate against that nations' citizens who hold down UK jobs the host nation would suffer a double economic hit. These are generally countries that the EU has already forced to join the bread line, and have huge levels of unemployment. Even if they were ordered by Brussels eurocrats to break international law they wouldn't comply. And, just suppose this were to happen in certain areas, what Brit would want to live in and pay tax into a country that didn't want them, when there are a host of English-speaking countries in the world that would love to take their retirement money? The truth is that there's already huge anti-EU feeling in these countries, and an EU being seen to be spiteful towards a national grouping, and flouting international law, would tip even more decent people over into the anti camp - so, an EU own goal several times over!
